Poor Michelle Obama!

She must have some kind of deformity. I just noticed a couple of minutes ago at the Memorial Service for the Fort Hood Victims that during the American Anthem Obama had his right hand over his heart on the left side of his chest but poor Michelle had her hand just slightly under her left SHOULDER. Any idea how she could have this deformity of her heart (if she has one) not being anatomically correct???

By your reasoning EVERYONE who places their hand "over their heart" during the National Anthem or the Pledge of Allegiance has a deformity because the heart is actually closer to the middle of the chest! I shocked, I didn't expect this kind of nitpicking from you. Actually, it's not required and in my area it's rare for pepole to place their hands over their hearts for the National Anthem. For the Pledge of Allegiance, yes, that's what I was taught, but for the Anthem we just stand. Annie

Well everyone else was saluting so I guess they just wanted to appear patriotic! Sorry Annie it would take a heck of a lot more in life to shock me. I am perhaps just too observant!

Does that mean that my favorite NASCAR drivers aren't patriotic because they don't salute when the National Anthem is played before a race? Perish the thought!

Lets keep the discussions to political issues. You are trying to find something to criticize her for and make her look bad. If she did not salute the flag then you would have something to complain about. If you look at a group of people saluting the flag you will see the hand anywhere from the shoulder to over the stomach and they are not trying to make a statement.

spalladino actually I am having fun! Although I have to admit I kind of expected some of the responses indicating outrage that I dared to criticize any of the Obamas... but that just adds to my enjoyment. I must see if there are anympore nits I can pick!

At least they made the attempt to do the proper thing. During the campaigning when they had the the National Anthem sang at a get together 0bama just stood there with his hands at his side and refused to show anything...ppl were outraged. I guess he got the message and at least puts on the image now...as for Michelle, at least she got her hand in the right general area. ~~AT PEACE WITHIN~~ **STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS**[/b]

That is true but I also noticed that the level of applause Obama received at the beginning and end of his speech was very sparse not the usual enthusiastic outbreak of (planted?) adoration.

I don't necessarily think you have to play your hand over your chest during the national anthem to show you're patriotic. It's like religion, does a Christian have to go to church to prove he or she is religious? No. I do understand what you're saying though, but I think everyone has their way of doing something. And it might seem a bit weird if there were 99 people with their right hand over their heart but one didn't; those things tend to stick out, but I don't think it's an indicator as to if someone is patriotic to their country. Plus I remember during high school, we had to stand for the pledge of allegiance every morning, and some students said the words, some didn't but had their arm across their heart, and some just stood there. So, like everything else, people just have their own ways of doing things. And also, maybe she did have her hand across her heart but the few seconds the camera showed her, it was when she moved her hand to her shoulder. Who knows? But pretty observant anyway :)

Oh well she dont have one and really we get correct of where the heart is its more to the middle and a little left as I feel mine pumping away lololo reall when I di the pledge the palm of my hand is in the middle of my chest. Isnt that where yours is too? Just wondering if every one puts their hand that way or is it just me?
