Rear, Medium or Well Done

I had a dinner meeting with an engineer for my project. We chose to eat at one of the finest steak houses here in my country.Of course, we ordered steak. My preference was well done. He preferred the medium. When the dish was served and we started eating, he suddenly puked! There was blood oozing from his beef. I couldn't help laughing, he laughed at himself, too, though felt very embarrassed. We did not finish the meal because we both lost our appetite. He from seeing fresh blood in his beef, while me, seeing him actually puking.Eyew! So, how would you like your steak done for you so as not to send you puking?

I like my steak medium rare but my husband likes his "still mooing" rare! The way you enjoy your steak cooked seems to be just as personal as the kind of pizza you like. I've actually seen menus where the choice of well done was marked as ruined. Most chefs seem to prefer the lesser cooked beef rather than what they consider overcooked. I say eat it the way you like it. After all, it's your steak!

I love my steak to be rear...and yes, I love that fresh blood spilling from the meat...delicious. I'd have taken your place. On the opposite, I can't stand steaks well done, I like the juicyness...lol

Well I cook for a living andf I have cooked a lot of steaks in my time. Some chefs get upset when a well-done is ordered but I think that the customer knows what they like to eat and if it wasn't cooked that way they wouldn't enjoy it as much. Does that make sense? I myself, prefer medium-rare. I like the juice! I think actually puking because the meat is undercooked is rather amusing but I am glad I wasn't at the next table lol!

Very true, indeed. Here in my country it is seldom that we prefer to eat food still oozing with blood.LOL . But I don't mind eating medium done steak once in awhile. I love the juice but how I wish I couldn't see blood.:-) Thanks. :-)

Well, if you put it that way, then of course I would like it well done. Actually, I like my steak medium. Rare of course is too bloody and well done is too hard. Medium is just right. It is juicy and chewable. In regards to the situation you just mentioned I would have definitely complained and demanded my money back. Most restaurants would refund your meal in this situation. Did you get a refund?

Hi. Thanks. No, I did not bother or we did not bother to complain. I know how it is when you you prefer rare. Not the chef's fault.:-)

Well thats what you will get when you order medium. It means its cook out side but still raw inside. I go for medium. I have a hard time eating the well done for its to boring for me, and i love eating medium cooked food. I also enjoy eating raw specially japanese foods. So mediums teak for me please.

Lol. I'm not a lover of raw japanese food. Not even the dishes here in my country where they only cook some meat by adding vinegar and spices. It's tasty, though, but I just can't stand it.:-) Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us.:-)

When I get a steak it has to be very well done. If it has any trace of pink in it I will send it back. I do not like eating pink meat. For some reason it just makes me want to puke if I have pink meat that I have to eat. My husband likes his to be a little pink but I just can't eat it like that.

Oh my, that sounds like a fun meal! When I first came to America (from England) to live we went out with some friends of my husband (who is American, hence the move) and I ordered my steak well done, and my husbands friends squealed in horror 'ewww, no, it'll taste like shoe leather'! So now they are convinced that all English people like it that way, which I'm pretty sure is not always the case...lol But I cannot stand even a hint of blood. The way they had their I could practically hear the thing still moo-ing on the plate! EEEW! My husband prefers medium so if I cook steak I just take his out a bit before mine!

I never liked having my food rarely done. I prefer my food, especially meat and fish, well-done or at times, medium. I don't like seeing my food all bloody. I'm okay with the sight of blood since I'm a nurse, but for food, major no-no! Hahaha

I like my steak rare providing it is a new animal, tender. I donĀ“t mind the blood. In fact I prepare a couple of very nice dishes that ask for raw ground meat. I grind my meat as in that way I can be sure it is fresh and clean.
