So, what are your cats called? And what are their nicknames? We have two cats. One is called Angus. He's a lovely cat; but very old, and a little porky. (Okay, he's pretty huge...) He's been to the dentist more than once and now has just the one tooth, poor mite! Hence: Angus Fangus McWangus. Or: Wangie. Any similar tails to tell?

Let's see... My cats: Sunshine, Eclipse, Comet, Cosmo, Orbit, Zeniah, Keenan, Jupiter and Venus Nicknames: Poppa Sun or Shine, Daniel Craig (because he's a tough cat, Comet is known as Oming, Cosmo as Otchmo, Zeniah as Ayah, while Venus, Jupiter and Keenan don't have a nickname. Sunshine was tagged as Poppa because he was the only man in the house. Comet got his nick name because if you call his name he always answers. He meows. Cosmo got hers because the vet mispronounced her name. Zeniah, well, Aya sounds shorter, so there you go. My dogs: Roxy, Amber, Pepper, Boo and PJ

Yes, we have that space/astronomical thing going. It started with name the first two cats Sunshine and Midnight. Sunshine's sister is actually Midnight. She decided to move in with our neighbors after we had her spayed and after we had more cats in the house. We adopted all of the cats we have. Well, some of them. The others just walked through our gates one day and decided they didn't want to leave anymore.

Wow, you have a lot of cats! I'm quite jealous... Bit of an astronomical, spacey kinda theme happening, which is fantastic. 'Sunshine' is my favourite! Whenever we're watching a film at home, and the only light is from the lamp beside the sofa, auld Wangie does tent to block out the sun (he sits on the arm of the sofa), so we call him eclipse-cat too. :P

Love that name! This topic isn't new, but I always enjoy it. Currently I have one cat. Originally she was a stray, & the complex where I am forbids us from having a pet unless we pay $300 each for them! I find that outrageously expensive, & didn't have the money to adopt a pet anyhow. But then along "Minnie the Moocher," a cat I named after the Cab Calloway jazz tune, because she was mooching off several complex people. I was among them. One night it was very cold or stormy, & I heard her begging to be let in. The rule is, had I been caught, I could have been evicted with no notice. That's never stopped me from protecting an animal. "Minnie" was so well-behaved I didn't have to worry that she'd mess up the apartment, but the longer I kept breaking the rules, the higher the odds against me rose. Finally a doctor signed a note asking the complex to forgo the pet fee, as he thought I "needed a companion animal for my psychological help." Who knows? Maybe I do! In any case, they bought it, & waived the fee! Yayyy! To celebrate I renamed her "Miss Miniver Whitecheek (see her photos in my pictures)," & she's been with me ever since. But I still just call her "Minnie." Maggiepie IMPEACH HIM!

Whoa! I never heard the BB cover it! I'll bet it's great! She's not all that "wee" now that she doesn't have to scrounge for food. Instead, she's got a little belly now, from mugging me for treats! Yes, she is pretty, I think, & it's too bad her right eye has such an ugly cataract on it. Worse, she's going blind in the other eye, too, I think, though it doesn't show, yet. I've known & named herds of cats in my day. Matter of fact, it was I who named "Taj," as he's now called. Originally I called him "Tah Shueh," (loosely: TAH SHOO-ehh) a Mandarin word which means "walks in snow," which is what they call cats with all whit feet. A student of mine from Beijing told me this. Elic & others just had trouble pronouncing it, though, so it mutated. I don't mind, & I love Taj-a-ma-zoo! It's been my experience that the more nicknames a cat gets, the more interesting & loved it is! Maggiepie IMPEACH HIM!

What a fabulous story! I love 'Minnie the Moocher' - my associations are always with the rendition in the Blues Brothers, rather than Cab Calloway's version; but now, I'll have a wee stray cat in mind when I hear it... (And, having checked your profile: what a beautiful cat she is!)

Ping-a-ling and his brother Pong-a-long Scamp has a lot of them - Sir Scamp-a-lot, Scaredy Scamp, and, obviously, Scamper. Taj is an abbreviated version of his name anyway, but then we expand it to Taj-a-ma-zoo. Timus is as often called Timie (and its not said Tim-us', its said Ti'-mus so the nickname is said Ti'-mee)

Taj - taking a bow
Ping and Pong say they deserve it too!!! But, mean while, Taj is taking bows

Sorry, everyone. Competition closed! Taj-a-ma-zoo is officially the best cat (?) name on this thread... It's odd, isn't it, how people 'abbreviate' names to much longer and more complicated incarnations? I mean, Angus Angus Fangus McWangus - it's hardly easy to shout when the wee blighter is tearing up the carpet again, is it? :P

We have a lot of dogs. And because my Mom is into Math, their names are expectedly related to Math. One was named Asymptote which is something that we find in a graph that determines or defines, and the other one is called Iso for the isosceles triangle. Over the year, however, there had been an evolution of the names. The ones that came in later were not math things anymore, but are still carefully though of. One was named by our Mom as Matter because when matter was a puppy his color was gray and associated the dog with the gray matter found in our brain. But as the puppy grew older, he turned brown, that's why the name became just Matter because the gray color already disappered. And the other one was named Black Magic because his color was very shiny black all over. And since we already dropped Matter's Gray name, we have decided to drop the Black of Magic's name. Thus the names Matter and Magic. :)

Hi MJay101, Angus Fangus McWangus love it. Great name for your cat. Only one tooth the poor thing. We have 5 cats and 2 dogs. The cats are Oscar, Wilde, Ozzy, Tim and Daisy. The dogs are called Amber and Zakk. The only one that really has a nick is Ozzy who we usually just call Oz or Ozzits lol.

Auld Wangie does all right... He gets the sympathy vote every time and always manages to poach a wee bit of bacon. I love Oscar and Wilde! Are they the foppish, queenie types?

Oscar and Wilde should be lol. Oscar is a little bit lazy and a bit of a fat cat but he does like iron maiden lol. Wilde is like a dog, he is very loyal for a cat and tends to follow me every where I go.

We took in a stray cat who was quite old we had him for a couple of years. My son was 2 at the time and called him kitty kitty and the cat would go to him so we thought it would just be simple to call him kitty kitty so the baby could call him too. The cat loved people hated our dot.

We have two dogs, a two year old male named Krypto, and a four month old female name Biscuit. We have two stray cats that adopted us when they were kittens, mom just abandoned them, and their names are Bandit, and Sandunes. Bandit had a sister Smokey, but we were able to find her a home.

Biscuit! Bandit! I bet you get that a lot... Strangely, that's one of my own nicknames at home. *Sneaks off for a furtive custard cream*

My cat's name is Paizly. Sometimes I'll call her "Paizly wayzlee" The foster cat's name is Lily. Sometimes I'll call her "Silly Lily" I will also call both cats (and any other cat, for that matter!) "Kitty widdy"
