Is there anything the government doesnt try to control?

I came across an article online regarding a woman who is literally fighting for the right to hang her clothes outside to dry. CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? It went on to say that a few other states are trying outlaw outdoor clotheslines. What a joke! With all the terrible issues we have in our world, outlawing clotheslines should be the least of their worries. Can you believe it? Tell me that its not just a bunch of busy body neighbors with nothing better to do that to make up stupid complaints. Sure clotheslines dont look that good when they're filled with clothes. But its not permanent. Usually they're in the back yard anyways. What's the big deal? I find it hard to believe that people can worry about such ridiculous, petty, and unimportant things in this time of unemployment and financial hardship. Dont they have better things to worry about? dl

I agree that the thought of them minding about clotheslines is just absurd. I don't think it's the government that's twisted, I think it's more of the senators and other politicians that are looking for ways to prove that they have worth in the government. Why don't they go put their attention on what really matters and just let the people mind their own businesses in their surroundings. I don't see what's wrong with clotheslines though, they've been there for generations and who cares if they look 'messy', garbage disposal and the homeless look messier, why don't they do something to keep people from being homeless and for garbage to be collected more frequently?

Well put Laydee! I agree 1 million percent. Honestly if I were the politician that was responsible for the clothesline thingy, I would be so embarassed. All he could come up with to put himself on the map was to outlaw clotheslines? What an idiot! He wouldnt get elected for another term that'w for sure. You seem to have the right idea. Focus on the homeless or trash pick up. Lord knows we need help with those issues. dl

Yes, there is. It doesn't try to control anything. The situation in my country is so bad, that we didn't fel the financal crisis, because we are in it from about 10 years. The criminality is high and they don't do anything. They only sit on their place in the ministries and try to figure it out how to make their life better.

Hey Nautilus! You are correct. As my country is the USA and they are trying to insinuate themselves into every aspect of one's life, you live in a country where they think if they dont acknowledge it it may go away. Unfortunately no matter what country we live in we know that's no going to happen. I am sorry for the things you must endure on account of your government. I know its not easy to just move. Keep the faith my friend. dl

It is scary, I wish they would spend their time on more important things. What is the big deal, what can it hurt? It is crazy. I hang a few of mine out.

I agree with you Rob! For the record, I love clothes that are hung out. They smell so good. They are fresh smelling. I love it. I would rather hang them than put them in the dryer. It also makes a big difference financially! I think the goverment needs to get a grip! I walk out my door every morning and all I see is men and women who are begging for money. These people are dirty and tired just looking for alittle help. The government should set up help for these people not worry about clothes lines and what you're hanging on them. dl

i believe it. my area has a whole bunch of "eyesore" laws like this limiting what you can put in your yard.all it takes is a couple of people complaining and they ban it/fine you. if you have more than one car on your property, you better make damn sure they're all registered because gaurenteed somebody will call. like you said, busy bodies.

that's really unbelievable. There are so many problems going around the world. unemployment, global warming, recession, droughts etc. People are dying elsewhere in the world because they have no food to eat. Some are struggling to keep their standard of living level as most of the people have lost their jobs. And it is hard to understand why some people are busy thinking about such stupid things.

Well put SmartJack! I agree completely. Its not that we have solved all of our serious problems so I am not sure why something like this is even being discussed. I think someone is trying to put their name on the map. I really do. Once they get the publicity, they will show the real reasoning behind this ridiculous situation. Happy MyLotting dl

i personally dont like america, my prediction is that there will be no america in the near future. over 70% of young adults (ages 17-25) are unfit for military service for one reason or another, weather it be too fat, lazy, dumb, or mischievious. our military is going down the drain and pretty soon, no matter how many bombs we have, were going to be taken over. im proud of the U.S. for all our inventions and discoveries and whatnot, but im damn ashamed of our government.

Talk about government officials wasting their time on absolutely idiotic things when we have many more important matters for them to deal with. Although we must take a share of the blame as we were the ones who voted these idiots into office!

They need to make up their minds... Save energy, save the planet - its far more important than offending some narrow-minded sensibilities about seeing other peoples washing. What next? Poo smells so we all have to stick corks up our bums to stop it? (sounds like some already have broomhandles up there)

There is no STATE ban on drying clothes outside, however, there are home owners associations & townships that limit or deny residents the ability to hang clothes outside. These same folks can also decide what is a "work" vehicle and tell you to either move it or hide it in a garage, so as not to sully the image they are trying to present to perspective home buyers in the area. Sucks but it's legal.

That is ridiculous! I unfortunatly cannot hang out my washing as my neighbours have a tendancy to steal my washing so I always have the tumbledryer on! I wish I could hang out my washing as it smells beautiful when it comes in from outside! The government have many more important issues to be concerned about than wheather somebody is trying to save the planet by hanging washing out as opposed to putting it into a tumbledryer! ell that may not be her intention but that is what she is doing! I cannot believe that!

That is just ridiculous. What is the world coming to! They have banned hanging clothes on balconies of high rise buildings in my city here in Australia, which I can kind of understand as they can be possibly blown off all over the place. There reasoning was more to do with looks though, it is a very popular tourist destination and they did not want to have messy looking buildings! I cannot believe that any government would try and outlaw the backyard clothes line though. It is an icon of the Ausssie backyard here. What do they want people to do? Use more electricity by forcing people to use clothes dryers??? Absurd! There was talk of the state government here charging people with rainwater tanks for the water that they collected from the roofs of the own homes. That is ridiculous too!

i think it is better to the goverment to concentrate on the unemploymet, traffic control, sanitary, hospitality, education, poor empoverment instead of such a ridiculous issue.
