How Far Will You Travel

In the United States, Thanksgiving is less than a week away, and that means that many of us are going to be packing up our bags and heading out of town for a few days. I'm curious to find out how far you are planning to travel during the holiday weekend? As for us, I think we are simply going to be going across town to celebrate with my side of the family. In the past eight years we've celebrated with my husband's family and they are about 20 miles away and even before that we would travel to Cincinnati to celebrate with the extended family. This year we are staying close to home.

I am so blessed...almost all of my family are local, so I'll travel only about 45 minutes away :)) Karen

I cant imagine planning to go to a family reunion , I get a cold sweat just from thinking about being around my relatives .. especially my parents who have shown very little concern about my progress in life ever since I was little... I have 3 other siblings whom i don't mind meeting cause I grew up with them in the same house but they were lucky that they never got it as bad as I did .. I expect them to go ..probably I will ask my sister to represent me or something ...lol

That does cover a wide range! I have aunts, uncles, and cousins scattered across the country, but siblings and daughters and mom all live fairly close, so yes, that is something for which I am very grateful. Karen

You are blessed that your family is all local. As far as our immediate families, they are all local, but the extended family on my side is spread everywhere from Saipan to Ohio and many places in between.

thats a good idea with gas prices the way they are. we are staying right here at home. since in disabled and am sick of trying to cook, i know darn well im not going to be able to handle all the cooking. so i elected to order it from fry's the local store. turkey with all the trimmings, etc. i figure by the time you go around to the store to get everything, use the electric for hours to cook it all,its pretty good deal for only 45 bucks. its like eating out only in and we will have left overs.

I love the idea of having one of the local grocery stores to do the cooking for you. I hate the idea of trying to cook all of those dishes and then have to make sure that everyone is content. I myself am not much on turkey and when I said that I would make Thanksgiving dinner for the family (which isn't happening, by the way) I was going to make turkey rolls and then all of the sides. Turkey rolls are simply thick cut deli turkey, filled with stuffing and then rolled up. Place them in a pan and cover with turkey gravy. Cook this until it is all heated through. This is my favorite way to eat turkey.

I hope that all the American people have a lovely Thanksgiving. I remember when I was traveling in the USA. I was in California in November 2001. I was staying in Santa Cruz. I love to travel and for a weekend I could easily travel up to 6 hours to get to my destination. I hope that you have a lovely weekend.

I will also stay close to home these holidays. I don't want to spend so much money on gas and plus I just read that airlines will be raising there fares and surcharges during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and throughout 2010. I think most people aren't going to travel far because of the economic situation. Everyone is now in savings mode and this will definitely effect holiday travel.

I agree with you on the savings mode. We've never been ones to fly for the holidays, and we really haven't flown a lot for general travel either, two trips in eight years actually and now it would cost us more than ever because our youngest is now too old to fly for free.

traveling is fun and very educational. i am looking for a chance to travel to places i haven't gone to. it teaches us culture of different people in real sense. it widens our horizon in terms of looking people and culture in wider perspective. i hope and pray that money and time will allow me to travel soon..

That is how it is for our family as well. As of right now, we are trying to think of big graduation trips to take with our children when they graduate from high school and since it is so far away, I think that the ideas may be feasible.

good luck.... me too is starting to save money for the planned travel together with my eldest daughter after she finished High School. it's 3 years from now, so i have enough time to save and make the plan possible. so with that... GOOD LUCK TO BOTH OF US...

I am not too fond of family reunions , all the gossip ...back talk .. I just cant handle it.So I guess ill just hang around my urban dwelling and find something I can do perhaps start more discussions on myLot for the period extending the whole thanksgiving festivities ..since I wont be at work..lol ... I know a flat mate who doesn't also dig the thanksgiving hype ..perhaps invite her to watch some movies about thanksgiving ...lol .. basically .. I'll find better things to do.

I can see why you don't want to spend the holiday with your family and truth be told, it makes a lot of sense. I hope that you do invite your flat mate over and make a fun holiday tradition of your own.

He Dorann. I'd travel far and wide where I could see what I have not seen yet in this world. But that depends on the time that I have, and the resources. :). Travelling opens so much doors, meeting people, and most of all travel corrects every single wrong thought on places and people. It's fun and liberating. I hope you'd enjoy your holidays. :)

I agree with you. I'd love to have the funds to be able to travel all over the world but right now that is just not feasible for us. Both of our children are still too small to travel and the financial constraints that we have right now make it impossible as well.

We will be staying put. Friends and family will be coming here. We switch around and sometimes go to my in laws . They are about an hour and 1/2 car ride away. This year they decided to celebrate the weekend after. So we will still be making the trip.

This is our first time to stay put for Thanksgiving as well. At least making the trip a little bit later for you all this year will mean that there is less traffic to deal with.

Usually. we go to the beach for the holidays because family is so far away. This year, we're going back hom, so we will be traveling from L.A.to Cleveland, Ohio. We're leaving on Monday and are going to stay through the 1st week in January. If I'm lucky, this will be the first white Christmas that I've had in over 30 years and the first white Christmas my husband has ever had. Have a great holiday

wow, the furthest I've traveled... I'm was in the military and so I was stationed in Germany, I had enough leave saved up that I went back home for thanksgiving which would be CA. I did the same thing when I was stationed in Korea, but that's not as far as Germany, I don't think it is, but yeah... But I've been out of the military for over a year now and I live about 15 mins from my paresnts, so no big traveling this year ^_^

My husband's father was in the Army while he was growing up and they celebrated Thanksgiving in Germany many times. They made their own family traditions. I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family this year.

I don't know if I would travel outside the country while during the holidays. But I definitely want to travel far and away. I don't want to stay in one place for the rest of my life. I definitely want to see this world. That is my dream and my goal. I might miss the whole life If I don't do it.
