hello friends.what is the difference between a off break bowler and a slow left arm bowler? nothing except one uses the right arm while the other uses his left. i was not born during the time of indian spin quadro so dont know much about them but an off break bowler is considered a better bowler than a slow left arm bowler. i dont know why but during the final overs particularly if a left hand batsman is at the crease, the captain is way too reluctant to give the ball to a SLAB. but no such thing is noticed when giving an offspinner an over during the final stage regardless of whoever bats. think of it this way. [b] in the last 2 decades,we had great off spinners like murali, bhajji, saqlain and some good spinners like swann, botha,de silva.some great leggies like warne, kumble, mcgill, kaneria etc. but when we come to the slow lefties, the first and only name come across our mind is vettori.i was not surprised when he created a new record by taking more wickets than any lefties which is not even half of what kumble got.

Actually you got it wrong, the slow left arm bowler is more like your right handed legspinner whereas the left handed chinamon bowler is like your regular off spinner. It is not that it is easy to score of slow left arm bowler, it is just that after Bishan Singh Bedi, there has not been a great slow left arm bowler. So I guess once we get such a bowler things would change. Cheers! Ram

yeah i got that wrong.what i tried to mean,a slow left arm bowler is like a mirror version of an offspinner .i wonder why they were never called leg spinners instead of slow left arm?

They are not called legspinners because they are basically offspinners but bowling with the other arm. Hence they are left arm orthodox bowlers. Left arm offspinners are called chinamen. Those are the rarest species of bowlers in international cricket. Brad Hogg and Paul adams are the two I can instantly think of.

I believe the problem has been that over the history of cricket, the right handers have so much been more common than left handers most of the terms have struck for right handers. Actually speaking you are right we could have simply had it as right hand leg-spinner and left hand leg-spinner. But this is what it is currently. Cheers! Ram

As most of big score are scored by left hand player like Brian lara's 400 and 375. Lots of bowler do not do good bowling against left hand batsman. Vice versa it also happen with left hand bowler as most of them have unique action.
