In the past we've never bought nuts with shells, but my inlaws aways have a beautiful bowl of them at Thanksgiving and Christmas time. This is the first year that we are celebrating the holidays in our own home, and I think that I too would like to have a bowl of mixed nuts as a centerpiece on our own table. I think they are both festive and beautiful. And, since we don't have a huge budget for decorating I think that having nuts would be a great decoration that won't cost us a ton of money.

The only nuts we really eat around here are peanuts and almonds. We buy peanuts in the shells, eat some of them here at home, and toss some out to the squirrels and other animals outside, especially in the wintertime, so they will have food to gather and store for the cold months.

Yes. I buy nuts with shells at the time of Christmas. Offerings are always made with shells. When it is available, why not we follow the rule? We get satisfaction also by offering nuts with shells and it is good to look at too.

jugsjugs oh yes but usually I really do not have to as we get tons of them as Christmas gifts and I really enjoy that as nuts are really good for you eaten in moderation. all of them have antioxidants and other goodies for your good health.

I never thought about that, but you're right - nuts in shells DO usually show up around Christmas time, don't they? That's when my mother always got them. I'll buy nuts all year long, but I rarely, if ever, buy nuts in shells, regardless of the time of year.

Huh? What do you mean by "nuts with the shells"? What type of nut exactly are you referring to? There are lots of variety of nuts. Different types, different colors, different shapes, and sizes. I havent heard of a nut that is only popular or are only sold during Christmas, except maybe for the chestnuts. I mean these nuts are also available all year round I think but they are popular during Christmas time as told by the songs with the lyrics "chestnuts roasting on an open fire". I do love roasted nuts, those come with the shells but I absolutely prefer boiled nuts, those also come with the shells. I love to take them out of their shells and pop the edible part in my mouth, then make a marathon of it. I usually do that while watching a movie. It sort of is my "popcorn".^_^

No! I buy mostly walnuts and almonds at a wholesale co-op locally. The less processing the better. I do buy them shelled when I can't get them undhelled. I know they are best and full of the Omega 3. Especially the walnuts. Sometimes I eat so many I get sores on my mouth and have to leave them alone for awhile.

Yes I buy them for Thanksgiving and Christmas time. They are so delicious. My favorites are the walnuts. I hope they won't be to expensive. If they are I might have to do without. I will be looking for them this weekend.
