What would be the changes you would like to see in the playing 11 for the Kanpur test? In my opinion we need to tune our Bowling lineup. Agreed the ahmedabad pitch was not condusive to any kind of bowling but the form of a couple of bowlers really makes me think if they would be better of playing Ranji for now. First change I would like to see is Ishant Sharma given a break from international cricket and allowed to go back to play for delhi rather than kept in the dressing room cooling his heels. If the Kanpur wicket is expected to assist swing then Sreesanth will be a more potent force than Ishant as he can swing the ball both ways and his away swingers will be more effecting than Ishants short pitched stuff. Second change that I would prefer to see is Mishra making way for young Pragyan Ojha. Pragyan has been very effective in the Ranji matches. he has also shown good performances in ODIs whenever he got a chance. I think this would be a good opportunity to test him out. Mishra though is a good bowler has shown lack of confidence in his own abilities in the last test. 8 no balls bowled by him are unpardonable considering he is a spinner. One might say he was trying extra bit on a placid wicket but even that was not evident from his figures.

Knowing the Kanpur wicket, I know for sure it is going to be another good batting track for the first three days and then spin for the next two days. I would rather go into the match with 2 or even three spinners. I would not want to drop Ishaant just now, because I do not think International test cricket is the place where you give players break. You can give them breaks in T20 or ODIs but not for tests especially when you have an average of 4-6 tests in the whole year. Regarding spin, I agree with you that Mishra has not shown too much confidence in his own abilities which is surprising considering his performance against the Aussies. But we need to remember that Sri Lanka are probably the best players of spin apart from India, so a failure against them should not be weighed too heavily on this young man just yet. Ojha is a good restrictive bowler, but his wicket taking abilities are still a question mark for me. Similarly, if you see even Bhajji has been practically not much penetrative on this wicket. I think these bowlers would get better purchase form the 4th and 5th day wickets at Kanpur. I would go in with an unchanged team for the next match. Cheers! Ram

I guess the teammanagement had the samelogic as mine. But I do agree with you logic. I think whether they change or don't didnt really matter. BUt if the pitch takes turn on the last two days I think Ojha will surely be an asset. NOt that Amit wouldhave been a bad option. Looking at the pitch I think Sreesanth might stuggle here unless he uses variations intelligently. But I am sure he has more dimensions to his bowling than Ishant.

Let's see what happens. Traditionally Kanpur pitch offers nothing for the first two days and by tea on the third day it starts taking spin. The way Indians have started I think they will declare at some time tomorrow after tea. I would not want to give more than 10 overs on the second day to Sri Lanka... Cheers! Ram

The selection decision paid off. Both sreesanth and Ojha have done good on the third day pitch.

i personally don't want any changes to the side.......last pitch was a batting pitch ...and even India batsman scored on it.......that should be kept in mind before dropping Amit Mishra I know Pragyan ojha is good....but Amit Mishra isn't bad.....and based on the condition .... i won't support Pragyan.... heard the news that Dhoni will not be playing and Kartik has flown in ......but received another update that he may be playing .... still not sure about that too......i support kartik.... I'm expecting another change especially with the pace bowlers.....there will be a change in that department.......batting i don't think India need any changes with the batting line up

Kanpur pitch is a batting pitch for the first three days and then spin for the remaining two days. So you need at least two spinners in the india team, then try to won the toss and elect to bat,put a huge target on the board, and then put more and more pressure on the opposition.
