Christmas and thanksgiving

November 28, 2009 1:49pm CST
Next year myself and my husband are travelling to New York and Las Vegas as part of a trip to celebrate my Husbands 30th birthday. We are going to be in the states late November and early December and of course I have just realsised that the time of year we will be visiting will be around thanksgiving and also the upcoming christmas holidays. I just wondered if anybody can tell me if in New York if the parade still takes place and will the christmas decorations already be up everywhere as think it would be nice to tie our trip in with the celebrations and a lovely experience!

I can't believe this discussion just sat unanswered all this time. The parade in November is The Macy's Thanksgiving parade and I think there is another at Christmas. If you really want to see parades you should visit New Orleans during Mardi Gras.

I would LOVE to visit New Orleans for Mardi Gras but, it is quite expensive for us to get over to the USA plus pay for accomodation and food etc during that time of year! One day maybe though! : )

There are much better times to visit when it is not so crowded. Parades are taking place more and more (ugh!) at other times of the year and there are a lot of free festivals and events year round. You could eat quite cheaply if you know where to go and as far as accomodations go there are some nice bed and breakfast places.

Not sure about the parade but the decorations start going up by no later than the day after thanksgiving. In some places, christmas decorations start going up soon after Halloween. I'm sure that by late November all of New York will be lit up.
