OK I just made up a title. This is just a basic discussion about training or maintaining or whatever. This is my first year running or doing any sort of fitness through the holidays. I started the day after Christmas last year on my "fitness journey" Well Thanksgiving gave me a taste of hectic and I'm wondering how on earth I'm going to do with maintaining my running and this busy season. I find myself going to bed later, more tired, and busier than ever. I noticed as my little guy gets more excited he gets more demanding on his mommy's time and that in itself is exhausting. Then we are house hunting...another added stress. I can't get up earlier when I'm going to bed later.....ahhhhh I'm overwhelmed. I want to work myself back up to 5 miles twice a week then extend my long runs....but dedicating an hr plus for running just doesn't seem to be happening. Any other ideas or concerns any one else has? Talk this novice through her concerns please :) thanks

This is my first time running/exercising through the holiday season too. I just started running in June, so I haven't had a taste of the craziness yet. Now that I am on a half marathon training plan, it is rather difficult to get up early and run in the dark. And usually my weekday runs in the dark are only 3 miles. But next week I have a 5 mile tempo run I have to squeeze in before work. And my long runs just get longer and longer. And with a slow pace this stuff takes even more time. If I want to also add in the marathon, my training schedule will quickly become even more hectic. I want to think I can handle it, but I still haven't signed up. I have cut out a lot of cross training due to lack of time. I won't cut running though since I am already committed to the half marathon. You should definitely at least run 6 to 10 miles a week to stay in shape, even if it's split up into 3 or 4 runs.

I'm getting in 11 miles a week right now over 3 days. I want to add another 3 mile day in. I've decided that I'm going to do the half in march instead of the full. I need to be realistic and my body's telling me that I can not train quickly. So I'm trying to be patient and let my body keep me safe with its signs and signals.

I'm trying not to train too quickly, but this week I really pushed it. I ran nearly 20 miles total when my training schedule only required 14. The thing is though, I got invited on a "short" run with someone, after I had already completed the mileage requirements for the week. And then they decided short was 5 and a half miles! My left inner ankle is now sore towards the ends of my runs, but then I give it an hour or so of doing nothing after a run and it's fine the rest of the day. Weird. Next week I'm going to cut back to the stuff that's actually required... 13 miles next week. Still haven't decided 100% on the marathon. Just talked to someone who lost 4 toenails on the marathon and it freaks me out a little. Especially when they talk about all the pain of the run. I realized I still don't have any shoes that I actually like very much. I guess I am very picky about running shoes, everything seems to bother me eventually. The newest ones would be great if they didn't trap so much sweat. It's like I need a shoe that breathes and isn't super cushioned, but isn't as cushion-free as the Nike Free.

The nike free has too much heel for me. My next shoe will be lower to the ground. Though for the most part it's an ok shoe since I took out the insoles. The insoles really made the toe box way too tight. I also took out the laces and like them much better. And I even have narrow feet lol. I signed up for a new years resolution run on Jan 1st. Payment will be 10 cans or boxes of food for needy. It will be fun, and my first winter "race" It won't be chip timed, it's only a fun run but I"m excited. I've quit training. I just can't do it on the treadmill. I"m still running but not training :) I'm just enjoying running. I still hope to do a half in march. We'll see, I really wish they were having it in may like the previous year.
