Anticipating James Cameron's Avatar...

Indonesia
December 15, 2009 11:45pm CST
Hey guys, finally the long awaited movie from James Cameron, the self proclaimed king of the world behind all great movies such as Titanic, Aliens, and Terminator will be released worldwide on December 18. I know it maybe has different release date in some countries. In my country Indonesia, it will release tomorrow, December 17, and some countries even had release date as of today, December 16. The story itself is about humans who wants to invade a planet called Pandora for its valuable resources but having resistance against Navi, the population of the planet. Based on the trailer, my judgment is it does not look as promising as the director said since I am not sure of the blue alien CGI thingy, but early critics reviews has praised this movie and even score a Golden Globe nominee for best picture. So, are you hyped to see this movie? Will you watch it in 3D? I know I am, already plan to prebook the tickets now :)

Hi!! I have been waiting for the release of this movie ever since I watched its trailer in the cinemas during one of the movies.James Cameron comes back after a hiatus of 12 years and he has put in all his 12 years visualizing the concept and creating the environment just as he wanted to.I have read some reviews by the critics about the movie and most of them have given it a thumbs up for its visual effects although they have even pointed to its weak plot and story.According to the director too,the movie is going to be a visual treat for the eyes especially if you watch it in 3D.I have already got my tickets for the 3D version and m going to watch it this Sunday just after I give my exam :).

I'm going to watch it next Wednesday although it already relesed in my country since today. Hope it match my expectation about the movie. For all the costs it made, I am sure the studio won't get us disappointed :)

Hi Sophisticated boy, i am really excited about this movie and will watch it on the 19th on 3d. It is releasing in India on the 18th. i think the storyline is similar to the matrix, where there is The Real World and The Matrix and characters travel to and fro these two worlds, only i think in case of Avatar it is two planets like you mentioned or two parallel worlds or something of that nature. I maybe wrong but i cannot wait to see the movie!!!!

there is a thin Link to the Matrix in that the consciousness of the person is transferred to an Avatar Body, but the World (Pandora) is a real Planet,(though realised in CG!),and the person controlling the Avatar doesn't seem to be harmed when it is Injured..I hope it's worth the wait for You!

I am a Grade A, first class, card-carrying geek and I am so utterly confused. Can someone please explain to me what sets this movie apart from any other big budget, SFX-heavy, space adventure movie? There are a few familiar faces (Sigourney Weaver, Sam Worthington) but no one I would call a superstar. In fact, until just now, Joel Moore (Fisher from Fox's Bones) was the only actor I remembered recognizing from the trailers. The other two I found in trying to remember his real name for the purpose of this discussion (because calling him Fisher was only going to be useful for the Bones fans). As far as award noms, I saw on one of those news ticker things that run across the bottom of the screen on CNN or whatever, that it got fewer than Inglorious Basterds and Nine (the musical, not 9 the animated feature) from the broadcast critics something something something. Each of those two received ten nominations and Avatar got nine.

The reason why Cameron waited 12 years hiatus from Titanic to release this movie is because he waited for FX development in making CGI creature look authentic and not robotic or emotionless like we saw so far in CGI movie (the last example is Christmas Carol. Usually what makes CGi creature look cartoonish is no emotion in the eye. Also, he wants to create the Pandora environment looks real although it is all made by computers. The 3D technology also enhance the viewing experience which as cameron said use the latest technology to make the environment look vivid. That's what I read at websites, not sure how it looks like until we really see the movie Since it's full of CGI creatures, I don't expect it receive GG nominations in acting like Titanic, but I think in the Oscars we will see this movie got a lot of nominations for technical nominations, which in the ends preceeds amount of nominees from a conventional movie like Basterds or Nine.

I think I will see the movie some time soon but not sure when.

I am looking forward to it too. I am not sure whether it will be released here in the Phils for 2009, although I am hoping to goodness. If not, then I think my new year will be lined up with several must-watch movies such as Alice in Wonderland, Where the Wild things are, among others.
