How often do you choose a different catagory for discussions.

Just curious how often everyone chooses a different interest catagory for there topics of discussion, or to view discussions. I have only been on Mylot for a couple of days, but it seems almost all discussions are started in either, life, listening to music, facebook, watching movies, make extra money, or the internet. I am curious because I started a discussion last night about the terrorist attack yesterday, and chose Earth as my discussion interest. There have been several other discussions since then on the same topic, but mine has not received any views, or responses at all. Just wondering if it's only because no one saw it because they didn't click on discussion interest, and has anyone else had the same problem? The same topic seems to have generated a fair amount of interest on other discussion interests.

I responded to your "earth" discussion ravenblade, but only after I had read this discussion first. One way to garner more responses, especially in under-utilized or less popular topic titles, is to build up your friends list. That way your friends will be notified when you start a new discussion and you increase the potential for a higher number of responses. It takes a little time, but it will come. Welcome to Mylot, by the way.

Not a problem at all ravenblade. As you can see from my number of postings, it has not been on that long since I too was new to the site. I have always appreciated the help and kindness that I received here. Good luck to you and happy posting. I hope you make plenty of new friends.

Thanks, I noticed that being the case as well after I had written this post. I have started to get friend requests from various people after responding to their posts, so I guess I'm making at least a good enough contribution to begin getting noticed. I also have 3-4 people I have told about mylot who will be joining soon as referrals so I'll get there. Thanks for the Friends Add.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention not to forget to turn the notify button on in your friends section. Once people add you, if you turn the button on, you will be notified when they post. That is one of the biggest mistakes I made when I started. I didn't know about it, and missed out on alot of discussions from my new friends.

I know that it seems like the same discussion interests scroll across the screen every few minutes. I know sometimes I feel that way. Another commonly used interest is Questions and Answers. This interest category gets a lot of discussions, and lots of responses and comments depending on the discussion. I'd try posting something in that category to see what I mean. Oh welcome to Mylot by the way!

I like questions & Answers as well, I could ask some questions I have doubt about. Another topic is "earning money", people would love to receive any information on making money websites, whether they are scam or not. Because we are all here to make money, and they won't let go any opportunity.

RAVENBLADE0842, Yes I really enjoy the questions and answers category and hope you do as well. Felice, The making money interests are definitely a group of interests that never seem to stop and always have responses in! Everyone wants to earn a bit extra, and I agree scam or not, most of the time people will atleast try!

Well it all depends on which category I think that my discussion would fall best and where I get the inspiration to write .Mind there are some popular categories like the ones you mentioned such as questions and answers which is kind of an all purpose category and anything acn go in that area however in the interet of diversification and appropriateness it is best you descern whic area your discussion should go in . I think that is the problem you encountered with your discussion ,It would have been better if you had placed that discussion under lif or question and answers. So better luck next time and have a good day and rich mylotting experience

Hi ravenblade, well I have to say I didn't even know there was an 'earth' interest on here and wouldn't expect to find a terrorist discussion in there, but perhaps in life or politics, or maybe it's time to open a terrorist interest as it's now featuring more often. As I've got a good friends lists of people with similar interests I don't look for discussions under an interest, but respond to friends and to things on the home page or through profile stalking. I put discussions not necessarily in interests which may elicit vast responses as too many responses can result.

Hello and welcome to Mylot. As your friends list increases, you will get more responses, because your discussions will appear on their home page under 'friends started.' I would say concentrate on responding for a day or two so that your name becomes more familiar, and then people will look out for you. While we're all happy to welcome and interact with new members, we do get some people on here who are just interested in trying to earn money and will post any sort of crap in the mistaken belief that they earn from quantity. It's quality that counts here, and if people can see from your responses that you put up good stuff, they'll look out for you on the boards. From what I've seen, you've made some interesting posts, so I'm sure you'll soon get plenty of responses.

Thanks, I have begun to see both of those things more the last 2-3 days as my number of comments increases. I really only respond to topics that interest me, or I have something meaningful to say, so I wont be someone who just writes a couple words or one sentence just to up my comment total. I'm sure it will just take a little more time spent getting to know people and being recognized. And, thanks for the compliment.

I think a majority of the people do choose the most popular interests to post their discussions in because they get more exposure, thus more responses. I usually post my discussions in the popular interests too but not randomly; I make sure they relate, otherwise I won't post it up in that area. I think most people visit the more popular interests, such as Life, so that's one of the more ideal interests to place your discussions in unless it doesn't relate to Life at all. I know what you mean though. I use to put my discussions in more specified interests and because of that, I didn't get that many responses. But when I put it in the more popular interests, I started to get more.

Thanks for the response, Yeah I post alot so far in life and a few others. I just tried something different with that post, because the topic of terrorism is a worldwide problem, So I used Earth as the interest group. I also posted it late at night, which could have made a difference as well.

I tend not to look through all the interests and pick and choose which ones to join. I often respond to some of the top discussions and if i have not joined joined the interest that it belongs to it asks me if i want to, Which is usually yes. Alot of the smaller interests don't often get new discussions anyways, its normally the ones with loads of people like life or questions and answers. And they are 2 subject interests than can cover pretty much anything :)

Unless I can think of something different, I go with the flow, and if something interests me I respond. By going with the flow, I see what is at the top and pick one. Of course that does not exlain why some topics are more popular than others. It could some just can't think of anything new.

Don't worry about it. From time to time, someone else would respond to your discussions. Might not be a lot of people, but one or two. You just need to be patient. Me too, I was curious about whethet the discussion I posted too boring or something like that. After a day or two, probably a week sometimes, someone would notice your discussion and respond to it.
