Respondent #3 has given you some great advice. Allow me to add a few things, not because I'm such a great writer, but I have been in sessions with published writers and have gotten advice from them. First, DO NOT edit as you go - tempting as it is. The first thing you need to do is get the story down. Obviously you can't do it in one session, unless its a really short story, but don't go back to edit until you have finished your first draft. Second, DO NOT go back as soon as you finish it to edit it. EVERY writer I've ever met sets the story aside for at few weeks at the very least and starts another story. This allows you to have a fresh look at what you have written. Third, DO let other people to read your story - but ONLY after you have finished it, and even better, after you've had a chance to do a first edit on it. The reason is that you KNOW what is going to happen, you might've missed a few "steps" in your story because of that. Fresh eyes will catch that and help you make it a better story. Now, as I have said, I have listened to many writers talk about how they write. One of the things I hear over and over is that it isn't so much a hobby as a job. If you only want to put in a part-time job on writing at this time, you still need to set aside that time to write. And editing does count as part of the writing job. Some full time writers I have met say they get up and write for 2-4 hours in the morning and then in the afternoon, they will edit the previous story they have written. In the evening, they read, or do other activities that allow them to recharge for the next day. If you are only going to write part time - remember - treat it like a job - decide, I'm going to do 10 or 20 hours of writing a week, and set that time aside. You can do 2 hours a night after work and then 5 hours each day on the weekend and get in 20 hours. Now, a story needs to know where it is going - don't even bother to start if you don't have an idea where it is going to end. I have written stories that I knew pretty much how it was going to end, and I had a certain scene I wanted to include in the story. Sometimes that's having certain things set up toward the beginning, sometimes its some climax toward the end. So, if you need one, make an outline so you have a general idea of where the story is going to go. Sometimes even great writers find their stories develop a life of their own, I hear that's happened to Dean Kootz a time or two. So, if you find the story hijacked by the people you have created, it doesn't hurt to let them go if its flowing, but if you find yourself off on a tangent that doesn't further the story - that's what the edit is for later. Good luck!

First off, Rowlings isn't that great of a writer. Her success comes with having an interesting story to tell and giving it great detail. Find a subject that interests you. If you like romance, start reading romance novels or if you like fantasy, read fantasy novels. Get a feel for how the writer writes. You aren't the only one who runs out of ideas on what to write. When I was working on my first novel I spent plenty of time in a daze over what to write next. The best way to become a writer is to continually write. Write something that you think is good, put it away for awhile-say two weeks and then go back to it. If you still like what you wrote, you're on the right track.

Just start writing your thoughts at random first. Then slowly start reading newspapers and pick one news or issue, and ponder over it, and write your thoughts down. Write your daily experiences, what you observe and how you feel, and how your day has been, and slowly write down incidents and stuff and then you can start blogging and yea.. you can be a writer. Just start writing your thoughts. I do that, and I am just on my way to be a writer, if not professional, at least for my satisfaction.

To start, aiming for being like JK Rowling is way too high. The odds are against you getting published period, let alone being as rich and as famous as her. Not saying it couldn't happen, just that you might want to ground yourself in reality for just a second. I don't want to discourage you, but writing the book is not the hard part of the process. If you can't finish a book, you can never get to the real work of trying to find an agent who believes in you and a publisher who'll take a chance on you. If you're still determined to be a writer even knowing all that, then you have to learn to finish a book. First of all, and the best advice I can give, is that you can edit something bad but you cannot edit a blank page. Having something written, even if you think it's horrible, is better than having nothing at all. Great ideas mean absolutely nothing if they're not written down. So write them down! Choke some words out even if you don't feel inspired and you don't feel like it's good. You might have an amazing idea for how to end your story later, but don't wait for it to happen if you're not going anywhere period. Any horrible plot or cheesy dialogue can be fixed when you get around to editing. Find out what makes you feel like writing or what inspires you to write. For me, it's spending some time thinking about my characters. I find songs that I think fit their current situation or how they would feel, and I put it in a playlist for my book. I also listen to soundtracks of movies like Lord of the Rings or Chronicles of Narnia. And most importantly, READ. Read as much as you can whenever you can. Study how other successful writers have written their stories, and think about how you can use what you've learned from their to better your writing. Good luck!

It takes a lot of time to polish your writing skill. But the good thing is, you can speed the process by a lot, I mean a whole of reading. Try to read various genre of fiction and you'll find which writing style that works for you. By that you'll also enrich your vocabularies and story ideas. Write regularly to prevent losing your skill. Your writing skill is like a knife, you have to sharpen it everyday.

The idea on which the novel is based on just comes from within and spontaneously. And just end it in whatever way that you like, provided, that the ending should be unexpected and unambiguous to those who are reading the story. And the things that you need most is immense dedication and nice proficiency in the language in which you are writing the novel, and it is in my opinion,is the most important.

If your really interested in being a good writer, try to register the journalism course at http:/www.writersbureau.com. Just request for the free details. Then wait for them to offer you discounts after few months if you didn't respond to their offer. Quite interesting because they had monthly instalment plan. The last they offer me was 174 British Pounds, or spread 19 pounds/month. Happy writing.. and Happy New year to you.

If you are wanting to become a professional writer, you have to treat it like a job. That means you write daily. You don't get distracted, you just work at it. To get started, you need to write. Even if it doesn't become a gorgeous piece of work, you have to sit down and write. It's the only way you will get better. Write about whatever strikes your fancy and go from there. Over time you will be able to connect a decent story, then comes the real part of being a writer, editing. If you can't sit down and tear your work to shreds to make it better, then you will never get anywhere. This process continues until you have something you are willing to share with other human beings. Find folks who can be critical, take their advice, and tear your work apart again and rebuild it again. Eventually you will have something that is worth getting published, and that's when you start shopping it around. In the mean time, you start the process all over again. Working on writing everyday, editing and rewriting, and then selling, and finally repeat.
