"Tag This Discussion"

Do you tag all discussions you participate in? I used to do so, but when I made several comments on one discussion the "tag this discussion" page started to irritate me. Now, I rarely tag discussions and I was curious if you are doing the same thing, i though that it would be better if we can tag a discussion once and then forget about it when we want to participate in the same discussion again. This way we can add tags on every discussion without bothering with it again. I really hate it when I discuss something and I see this "tag this discussion" page and I have no more tags to add, because I write a post in the same topic for a 10th time What do you think about that?

Well, honestly I don't even remembered tagging a discussion that I participated. I only give tags to the ones I made. Although it's also important for those who uses the search button to find the discussion they're looking for using tags.

Yes, you have a point here, but if you taggd a discussion once, why do you have to keep tagging it? I mean, doesn't it annoy you to be asked to tag every single time you post in a discussion?

Well, sometimes but they have a point why they put that. Isn't it one of the rules is to make a quality discussion and responses wherein it has sense and could give a lot of information to the readers, now example if each of your response has a unique or valued information mylot would want us to give it a tagged so that searchers would see your response. I think it's like that?

You may have a point here, but we don't add tags to our responses - the tags refer to the topic of the discussion itself, so I dont think that it is neccessary to add different tags after every post you make for the given discussion

Ha, I know what you mean! The few times I tag my discussions (which I usually don't.. i think it's a waste of time to be honest!), it's annoying when you go back to comment and whatnot and have to pass that same "tag this discussion" page, even though you've already submitted them. ugh. *sigh*. But maybe you can mention this to GoAskAlice next time she puts up a discussion?

I think one should tag all the discussion because it helps mylot in managing the data well. It can also help user as suppose I need to find some topic of my interest so with the help of keywords I would be better off to the discussion. Although mylot has provided the facility to skip the tagging but it can disable it for the users that do not want the service.

I agree that each member has to tag each discussion, but my question here is whether you think it is necessary to tags a discussion each time you respond to it?

I don't for every discussion, as most of the time, I am not sure what keywords to even use, so I just let it go. I do try to tag as much as I can though, as it does help others to find a certain discussion faster. There are some though that don't tag properly and will put keywords in the tag, that have nothing do do with te discussions. Those kind of tags are mean, and I don't do that, but I heard about some that have and what they have said about the discussion they were tagging. What I don't understand is how the discussion starter knows what tags were put in the discussion. I have never ever figured that one out. I just hope that my discussions haven't been tagged badly, but I don't know about tha either. Good luck to ou and happy mylotting.

I know what you are talking about. I have one discussion which got really inappropriate tags, but I don't want to bother myLot with it, but people should think carefully before adding a keyword. When somebody have decided to tag the discussion - at least they should do it properly

If its has been started few minutes back then i would add the tags to it so that it would help others.if at has some ten to fifteen responses then i would just skip that part coz no matter how relevant word you type you dont find in the tags so i skip them.in few of my discussions its keeps on annoying me coz each time i place an comment it would ask me for a tag how many i gotto add. great day.

I tag discussions initiated by me as anyone can have an access to it later on by merely opting for ' search'. But I do not tag responses as I too find it quite cumbresome. I have made a suggestion to GoAskAlice to do away with tagging responses.

I've done well. I also thought of writing to Alice's topic of this matter but then I wasn't sure if it isn't just me who is annoyed of that. Now, after I read your responses to this discussion I know that I have to write there to speak of my pain, namely "tags"

Hi thewayis If we give the tag, soon after posting the response (first time) then it won't ask again for tag if we add more comments on the same discussion. But it happens with some particular people's discussion. I have observed this habit, with two of my friends, if I gave the tag in the first time and if I add some more comments it may keep on asking the tag again and again. But I never face this problem with other people. In other words, if I gave the tag in the first time itself and add more comments, it never ask again to tag the discussion. Tagging is helping to search the discussion so I am giving the tags all the time with my own and other's discussions.

I don't ever tag discussions either, I did at first when I was new to this website, but I don't do it anymore. For a long time I didn't even know what tagging a discussion even meant..lol. I get tired of seeing the "tag this discussion" page too.

I tag only the discussions started by me.Very rarely I tag someone else's discussion. If I feel that I have added a different thing to that discussion, but that thing is related to the discussion, then I do tag.Otherwise I just skip it.

I like the tag this discussion option as a reader perspective, It greatly improves the discussion for future. But if you look as a responder it may annoy you. Whatever it may be, I vote for Quality, So I always tag discussions.

Hi, When i was new to mylot, i doesn't know what's the purpose of it and after knowing the purpose of mylot i will tag all the discussions, i have participated. Tagging makes us to find related discussions we started. But tagging is not necessary in all discussions or response we done. Happy mylotting. Have a nice day.

If I can feel I can contribute by adding the tags, then yes I will. There are a handful of times where a really obvious tag has been left out. So I add it. Most of the time, I feel there is nothing that should be added. Therefore most of the time I do not.

I also used to tag every discussion i responded to but not any more. I do still tag most but if i really can't be bothered with that bit i just skip it now. When i first started i thought that i had to tag it and thats why but now i learnt i can just skip it saves time me trying to think up some word or phrase that someone has probably already put as a tag anyways :)

I'll skip the tags and sometimes I put a tag in the discussions to mark if I already responding on the discussions. I think tagging is only the user itself can added it and no the others.

By i have never notice this before, may be it's because i am a new comer but i tag a discussion once and never have the time to tag a discussion another time. So to me tagging a discussion more that once is a waste of time.
