hi there people, every year in italy if you have a television, also if you don't use it, you have to pay about 300 $, we call it "canone" for the pubblic television service, i don't like pubblic television here, it's everything trash and bad programs. so i think that is wrong to pay this tax for this. And What about you? do you have to pay a tax for your television or pubblic programs service? Thank you for your responses :)

Where I live everyone gets a discount on the monthly cost of the TV service, which is good for those who watch TV, but I have to pay for it too and I hardly ever turn the television on. Unfortunately, I still also have to pay for the internet, but those who do not use it do not have to pay. How unfair is that? However, I have discovered that part of the TV subscription is for beautiful music that a very good benefit. I do not listen much, but it is nice to have it available.

In my state here in America, and I think in most, public tv is supported by funding drives. They show some really great programs and interrupt them to beg for money. It seems to work pretty well! It's not right to tax you for a luxury, which is what television is.

Hi, Codris. In our country we don't have this taxes for public televisions - and I think that this tax of 300$ is really, really, really high! Wow! We pay only for cable operators. Our tax for a month is only around 7.00$ . And we have four public televisions which you can watch free.

Here in South Africa we pay a yearly fee of about R180. But as i have to agree with you, why pay for something you do not watch. Here they have the tendancy to show one movie at least twice a month. I mean REALLY. I sometimes wonder if the people working there, really know what they are doing. But one thing they can show you everyday is soccer or cricket. I men, sports is fine, but we do not want to watch it every single day, for pete's sake. I rather get myself some movies, at least if i don't like the movie, it will be my own fault. But as they say, whether you like it or not, you will pay, as nothing in life is really free.
