Hey guys!:D Before I start, let me just tell you i'm a Canadian Citizen and I'm 15. Recently i've begun speaking to some people in the states, (they're all around 16 years old give or take 2 years) and I found that they aren't very proud of their country. In fact on many occasions they find a way to slag their country; They even dislike themselves for living in the United States! Whenever they make a mistake they blame it on being an american; is that most young people or is that just people my age? Are you not proud of your country, or just your government? Or none of the above? Please tell me what you think^^ Please don't interpret that as a shot at you guys, it isn't; and i'm not trying to judge anyone, that's why i'm asking.:) Thanks!:D

Hi, decoratedus! I am Proud to be an American, born and raised! No, i am not proud of what is happening in our government or to our country. Making mistakes has nothing to do from what country you live in. Everyone makes mistakes, and some of those mistakes we learn from and some we don't. My children don't slang their country, or blame this country on their mistakes. They are proud to be an American. To blame someone else for my mistakes is rather absurd, they did not make me commit the mistake, i made the mistake all on my own. I see alot of kids who blame their mistakes on a whole variety of reasons, but they are the ones who made the mistake and they are the ones who are to blame for them.

I personally, as a 25 year old American Citizen, born and raised, am not completely proud of my country in general, but still say I'm proud to be an american. Kids in our country have learned from their parents that everything they do wrong, can be blamed on somebody else. That's what our law enforcement officers and government officials have let go, especially more so in the last few years. Oh, I spilled a hot cup of coffee on myself, but the cashier at mcdonalds never warned me it was hot, lets get a few bucks out of it! Oh, I failed my math test, I didn't pay attention in class, but my teacher didn't notice, I'll have my parents call and yell at the school Oh, my kid has a lot of energy, i'm going to blame it on a mental disorder and start pumping him full of pills. Oh, the banks in our country are out of money, but they didn't think this would happen, I'll blame it on the governent and they'll give them a few bucks to try and bounce things back No one believes in being accountable for their own mistakes, and people in general aren't helping to reverse that at all, they just kind of keep pushing it along. I understand what you're saying... but also, no offense to you or your other young friends (not that I'm that old myself) but do these kids have any good reasons why they don't like their country? Just curious? Thanks for the post! I hope to see more responses lined up!

It's because that indoctrination that passes for education these days is teaching kids that america is bad, evil, imperialist and a bully. I LOVE my country, I can't stand what our government is doing to it. The prinicpals of our founders are slowly being faded out and replaced by something our founders would have gone to war over. Incidentaly, your profile says your 16? was saying 15 in this discusion just a typo?
