Dear friends, We (Indians) celebrated the Republic Day on 26th January and this time I got an opportunity to watch the same directly. I have watched the same only in TV so far. We started at 7.00 AM from home and much fog was there and nothing was visible upto 10.00 AM. There was much rush and due to security reasons they were not allowed to vehicles after a particular point so we walked almost one hour to reach place. Seat arrangements were done on the side of Rajpat (the road where the parades are going on) and the place was not visible for us (where the function was taking place) and we could watch only the parades by different regiments, tableaus from different states and ministry. You can read more about the same and watch the parade by clicking the following link. http://www.festivalsofindia.in/republicday/parade.asp

Hi Sree! It is really good to know that you too so much pain to see the magnificent Parade in person, I know it is a real ordeal to reach at the Rajpath and see the Parade. This year unfortunately, there was heavy fog and regiments and tableaus etc. were not clearly visible. Hope you would remember this event for a long long time.

Hi Sree, it’s so nice to know that you had finally got the chance to watch the grand Republic parade taking place in your place in person three days back. From the description I understand that it was not relaxing to take an hour time to reach the destination on foot. I had experienced such situation during my younger days just because at that time I was so keen to see the national day parade on the spot especially the first time! We could realize that the busy situation and joyful atmosphere at the site is totally different from that on the tv screen. Therefore it’s nice for us to learn from the real experience how grand and attractive the parade is. Anyway for me, it’s rather time consuming and tired as well to go for such occasion. So I prefer to watch the live broadcast at home relaxingly and comfortably Thanks a lot for attaching the link dear. This has provided me the convenience to learn more about the Republic parade in your country by reading the content as well as watching the video available there. Take care and happy posting Take care and happy posting

Yeah Sree, it's nice to know that there are security people here and there to monitor people having malicious intent in this great and busy scene. This is the best way to make sure that all the participants in the busy crowd are always safety all the time. Here is the same, security guards and policemen could be seen at every corner to ensure the public security I believe kids and people who haven't watched such grand parade before are the group that keens to view the attractive program in person for sure. Yeah, it is to see something directly than to hear or to watch it on the tv screen. This is also the best opportunity to let kids to learn real thing form their own experience. I appreciate you willing to take the trouble to bring lots of kid to sight the wonderful scene BTW I would like to express my belated gratitude for awarding the BR Take care and happy posting my dear.

Hi dear lkbooi, Yes it was not a relaxing journey but we enjoyed the parade by watching the same directly. We walked one hour to reach and again one hour to return. There was no parking available and security people were everywhere to check the same and they were not allowed to walk on road and asked everybody to use the foot path. There was much rush, it was a surprise for me how many people are keen to watch the program directly. Managing kid was another problem as there were lots of kids in our group but they really enjoyed the programme. The seat arrangements by the government were really appreciable they have done it very beautify for the public (I think the preparations started 4 months ago). Thank you very much for sharing your opinion. Have a great weekend. Take care dear.

Hi Sreekala, it was a beautiful parade. I am sure you enjoyed watching them live. I have never attended one before. It was well organized and they have all the fighter jets on display too. It is rare that we get to see them unless it is done in a parade like this.

Hi sree...Yes I read about thr fog that was engulfing Delhi days befor the parade and did wonder as to how it will affect the republic day celebration this time...It was a brave effort on your part to set off so early in the morning to watch this big event unmindful of the fog and the cold...nari sakthi ki jai hoi....!!...Well I have never ever had an opportunity to watch the parade except on TV...and its a good thing you made a brave attempt to wacth the same.....

Hi Rose, Have you seen the same in TV this year? If you watched the same then you could understand how much disturbance was there by fog on the great day. Anyway Sun GOD won around 10 am over the fog. Now my younger son keep on asking about the horses (accompanied with The President), where they went? The horses and camels can impress him much (lol) Have a great day dear.

Hi Sree...yes I was able to watch only for a short while on Tv as I had to attend a wedding...Any way your son is lucky that he could see camels and horses parading right in front of his eyes .It must have been a real treat for him to see these animals all decked up and walking ceremoniously on the parade ground...And a real change from watching these animals in the zoo........

Hi Angel, Very good morning to you. I think it is better to watch in TV because it was tough time for us to walk so long and reach the place and there was much security checking. They were not allowing keeping even the keys of house (mobile phone, camera and water bottle all banned items). We walked much distance and thick fog was another problem. Several small kids were in our group. But once we reached the place and programm starts kids enjoyed much. Thank you very much for the quick reply. Have a great weekend.

Hi.You are right Sreekala that its better to watch The Republic Parrade and all celebration on TV as i have my own experiance, when i was school i used to participate in Republic Day and Independence Day functions in our own town stadium, and its really tough to manage all the things that day because of security reasons and the huge crowd too.

So, you were lucky enough to watch the Republic Day parade? I've always watched it on TV and I feel it's easier that way because I get to see everything instead of just bits and pieces:) But I guess the experience is different when you go there compared to watching it on televeision.

Hi SV Yes the experience was different and I took risk in that foggy day with my small kid. But they enjoyed a lot and still asking me to go for the parade again. I told him the parade will come in next year only and it happens once in a year. He wanted to watch that horses and camels again. But watching the same in TV is good if we compared with the difficulties on reaching the place. Thank you so much and have a nice day.

Hi Buchi, This time I got the luck and we watched it directly. But the journey was little difficult and we felt tired after the program. In the morning there was thick fog and nothing was visible upto 10 am and after the Sun was visible. We seen the vehicle of the President accompanied by military horses. Thanks for the participation. Have a great weekend.

Parades like that would be very tough to watch live. It will really need so much effort and patience because so many spectators will crowd the place for sure. I always just watch things like that on TV as I have no patience with big crowds. I was not aware of that Republic parade that you were talking about actually but thanks for the link for at least I will have some idea what is it all about. Have a nice weekend!

Hi Chaitra, Oh it is sad to know that you could not watch the same in TV due to power failure. In the morning there was thick fog and nothing was visible upto 10 am. Then the situation changed and by the end of the program the day was much pleasant. I am happy that finally we could watch it directly even if there was much problem for reaching the place. Thanks dear. Have a nice day.

It looks great; do you always have it on the 26th January? The reason I ask that is because that particular day is our Australia Day and it is always a public holiday for us; here in Perth Western Australia we have a huge Sky Show of very elaborate fireworks and over 350,000 people usually gather on the foreshore to watch them in the evening. It’s interesting that you should celebrate Republic Day on the same date as us…It sounds as though it was worth the trouble if going, we are planning to go to the foreshore next year as we watched the fire works from a distance this time.

Hi Paula, Yes, we are celebrating Republic Day on January 26 every year. Other than the tableau and March fast, school kids’ performance were there, bravery awards distributed for kids, etc. Fortunately there is no fire works related to this celebration but balloons were aired (flying) attaching the national flags on it which was very beautiful to watch. Thank you very much for sharing your celebration and I am happy to know that which is also on the same date. Have a great day.

I didn't know about your Republic Day celebrations in India, so I've learnt about it from you. Sounds like it was a bit more hassle than enjoyable, but it is an experience you can remember, and say you've done it once at least. Usually I think it's good to be present at something like that because of the atmosphere and the excitement in the air. That usually beats watching on TV, even though you are more comfortable and see more on the small screen than in reality.

Hi jakill, You are absolutely right; we should watch the same at least once in our life especially we are staying in the capital. Every year my hubby expressed his wish to watch the same on spot but I discouraged him every time as I can't walk this much distance because small kids are with us. This time some other friends provided the entry pass and asked us to join with them (there were some other families too) so we decided to attend the function finally. Thank you so much for joining, have a great weekend.

Hi deepa, We are comfortable on watching the same in TV because there are no hazards to walk long distance, remain hungry for long time etc. Yes the place was much crowded and security was very tight. Tableaus from different states were good but there was no representation from every state. Don't worry for missing the same this time you can watch it in next year. Have a great weekend.

OMG Kala, what a harrowing experience for you all. I too am excited about the parades and always thought that those at Delhi were more lucky as they could watch it ‘live’ but just the other day Deepak told me how bad an experience that can be for those who go to watch the parades. After hearing him out, even I think TV is the best place to catch all the action. Nevertheless, how did you like the displays, specially the tableau of the various states?

Hi Sudipta, You are right; TV is the best place to watch the parade, it was very difficult to reach the place. Just imagine, waking up kids before 6 am and getting ready in this cold climate. They are not allowing even water bottles. Walking much distance is another problem. Now winter is there so we won’t feel thirsty much that is why I took the challenge with my small kid. But after reaching the place 8.30 am he started to ask water for drinking (lol) but once the march fast and tableau started he enjoyed the same with clapping his hands. The tableaus were beautiful but there was no representation from every state.

Hi vathsala, I am interested to watch the same still dear. I love to watch those tableaus and other programms in TV. But I knew that watching the same on spot is not that much enthusiastic especially with kids. The season is winter so we didn’t felt tiredness for walking much distance. Living in Delhi for long years we never tried to watch the same on spot just because of the difficulties to reach the place. Finally we could do it and happy too. Thanks dear, have a great weekend.
