Money found on road

India
February 7, 2010 6:25am CST
Hello people! Few years ago when I was going to school and I found a hundred rupee note on the road which is equal to 2 U.S.D. I took it without the knowledge of any one. I took it as if I was tightening my shoe lace. Recently, my sister gave me a hundred rupee note to buy house hold things from the departmental store. When I finished buying and when I was about to give the money to shop keeper, I found that the money was lost. I searched and searched for half an hour, but didn't find it. Do you think god was punishing me for my past or it was just a co-incidence. You must also have faced some thing liked that. I would be glad to hear your incidents. Thank you, have a nice day.

How could he be punishing you if you did not know who the money belonged too? It would be different if you seen someone drop it and then took it.... Or if it was in a wallet and you just turned in the wallet.... I found a wallet one time and can not remember (I did not count) had alot of hundreds in it..... did not know but over $500... I did not take it to the store because I was afraid someone would steal it.... I got the address of the person because it was local and took it to their house.... they thanked and said they had just cashed their check.... I got $20 out of that deal.... If you did not know who it belonged to how could you have been a good Samaritan.

Just a coincidence, honestly. Even if there was a God (which I don't personally believe) he'd be far to busy running the universe to be bothered about something as comparatively trivial as this. Having said that, it could be a fortunate coincidence - you've learned how it feels to lose money, and hopefully if you ever find money in the street again, you'll do the right thing and try to restore it to its rightful owner. Think of it as a chance to become a better person.

Yeah, this will make me know how I will feel if I lose money. But if I ever find money again, how will I go to the owner? There are only few honest people in this world. And one more thing, believe god, it is true.

It depends on the situation and the amount of money. If it's small change, don't bother, it's very unlikely that the owner will come looking for it. If it's a big wad of banknotes, they will miss it, so it's probably best to turn it over to the police, or whatever you do with lost property in your country. Actually, this reminds me of an incident at work last week. I work in a call centre, and a member of the public found a wallet with money in it and a card giving contact details of the organisation I work for (the wallet belonging to one of our customers). The guy phoned us to let us know he'd found the wallet, and asked me to pass on his phone number to the customer, so he could give it back. It's nice when people demonstrate their honesty like that.

You seem like an honest and good person. I'm surprised by your comment about God. Believe, he is there and knows and sees all. He's never been too busy.

I don't think he is punish you because you have the urge to gain something that is not yours. There is a difficult situation in that particular part, my friend. Because you don't know who is the owner and where to return that money? If you give to someone and he's being the culprit and not you. But the best thing you should in that situation is to report it to authorities to the police so that they are the one who kept that money and if someone looking for it they investigate if the person is really the owner give it back to proper person...and you are not punish on the sin you've done but done a good thing

Hi friend! In these cases, first, I look for its owner. If none is found to claim it, I donate it to a beggar/needy person. I don't like to take the money which is not mine.

No GOD didn't punish U, it was someone else's turn to be blessed like U were. Ten year ago I was living with a g/f and she told me that she needed $300 dollars more than we had at the time for bills. I told her ev'rything would be fine and went to the store. As I was walking across the parking lot (people were walking pass/ in front of me) I looked down an saw a $100 dollars 2 feet from me and did the old s"shoe tying" trick too. Then as I stood up and started to walk I saw another $100 and then another which I picked-up just as people were stepping right over them. GOD on that day that moment gave $300 dollars while FIVE PEOPLE just walked right over them w/o even noticing! Now I ask U doesn't that sound like A GOD that 'PUNISH' U or I for picking up a BLESSING???

Yes, It's a pay back time because it first it's not your own money. It's your values on how you handle a money that is not yours. Maybe the better to do it is find the real owner or donate the money & not to keep it because there is Karma. You lost your sister money in exchange of ruppee.

I dis not see the owner of that money any where. That's why I kept it for my self.

I certainly do not think God is punishing you by taking back what was not really yours in the first place. How is that a punishment? Neither would I feel guilty for taking money you find on the road (unless you saw the person drop it, of course, then maybe.) What else could you have done? Left it there for someone else to take? Give it to someone who said it was theirs? How would you know it was their just because they said so. You didn't steal it, right? You found it. Yes, once there was a coworker whom I had loaned $40, supposedly to buy medicine for his little girl. When after some time he had not given it back, I asked him to return the money. He said he did not have any money and not to bother him about it any more. Well! He turned around angrily and walked away and as I watched him go, a $20 bill fell out of his pocket. Yes, I went up behind him and put my foot down on the money, and he kept walking and never turned around and never saw that he had dropped it. So I put it in my pocket and if he ever gave me back my $40 then I would have given him the $20, but he never did. So I only lost half of what he tried to cheat me out of.

That's quite a situation to be involved in! I definitely believe in the law of Karma and that is, what you give out good or bad tends to return to you. I don't think you did anything wrong though when you found that money as there was no one around and you don't know who the money belonged to. Maybe you were just unlucky on that day. I would love to find money on the street myself, this would be a big stroke of luck! Andrew

Why would God punish you for picking up a hundred rupee note if you had no idea who it might belong to??? I think God has other fish to fry, of a much larger nature. No, I think your sister's money slipped out of your pocket and may help someone else who comes along and picks it up. You are putting far too much guilt on yourself unless you saw who dropped the original note. If that's the case, maybe it is payback.

Karma does come around. Believe me, it happens to many people. Finding money on the side of a road though, there isn't much you can do to turn that in. Who would you turn it into? That would be a hard decision. If I was walking down the street and happened to find a bill on the ground, I would pick it up and take it, just because it was just laying there. If I found a HUGE amount of money somewhere, I would def turn it in. And, yes, there IS a God! If there wasn't, you wouldn't be alive today. Who created you if there isn't a God? I truly believe in God, and I put him first before anything!

Yes, it was a hard decision for me. Some how through this discussion, I will be able to know what to do next.

When i was in collage i used to found money on a road but i think its not good at all. Because the money which we found in a road side after getting that we feel very happy and used to enjoy. But beside that the person who lost the money will not be able to happy because he /she lost his/her money. And i used to given that money to the beggars.

This looks strange, you often used to find money on the road. But it is nice that you gave it to poor people.

When I was young, I too lost 50 rupees which i gave to my friend. He never paid me back the full amount. I also lost a calculator in this manner. This is because I have cheated many people in the past. So God is punishing me in this way. Don't feel bad.

i think this is just a coincidence... but it teaches you a lesson as well to be more honest in the future... as there is a saying that says "what goes around comes around"... that's why i try to do good deeds to everybody in my life as i don't want bad things to come to me... take care and have a nice day...

I don't think God had punished you. But maybe...just a reminder for what you did. Although you never knew who owns the money that you found on the road. The mere fact that you had put on interests for claiming that money still gives us bad realization in ourselves. You can at least asks some people near or besides you when you saw that money on the road. Then..maybe next time, you will try to look for the owner before claiming any found things. it is worth the lesson then.. Have a good day always

Yeah I do have such experience like taking a eraser from the ground & loosing a pen the next day/week and so on but all those were in my school days. Here I don't bring GOD (even though I believe in GOD), saying that you will get punished for this act as though God doesn't have any other job to do. But I strongly believe "for each and every action there is equivalent and opposite reaction". So if you feel what you are doing is wrong pls don't that.
