The things you can do with duck tape ( I always thought it was duct tape).

All I've ever done with it is emergency repair to hoses, car, washing machine, etc. Some comedians and such have spoken about making wallets or repairing boots, etc. But I haven't done that. Now I read there is a contest, young people make a prom outfit out of duck tape to compete and win scholarships. I didn't know that the tape now comes in a bunch of colors now. So what have you done with duck/duct tape?

I never heard of that. L.O.L. A scholarship for duct tape? What will they think of next? I don't know but I think it Duct Tape. I only use it if I am packing boxes to move it holds quite well the boxes together.

I bet it does work great for moving boxes. Never thought of it for that. Yup, it is duct tape, the brand with the scholarship is called Duck tape brand duct tape. The past year's scholarship winners had some neat outfit for their proms. If you go on the duckbrand site, it's amazing.

Duck tape (or sellotape as it is more commonly known here in Britain) is a wonderful creation It can do so much, and is so useful. The possibilities that a single reel of duck tape holds is nearly endless

So it's called sello tape instead of duct tape there, neat. It turns out that Duck is just a brand of duct tape.

I have heard it is good to remove warts with. In fact the instructions I read said to cut little pieces just big enough to cover the wart, and it will shrink them.I have seen wallets covered with duct tape. When the going gets tough, the tough get duct tape. I think the silvery gray has a different consistency or durability than the colored. For most things, I still prefer it. I have seen people roll it up into balls, just for the fun of it.

I think I've heard that if you deprive warts of air, they die. So if that's true, duct tape would work well for that. The rest sounds interesting. I don't think I would use it to make a ball unless I was going to play ball. Thanks for dropping by and commenting. Take care.

I have always kept a roll of the stuff handy in the house, and have used it to make repairs to loads of things. Recently I had to use the tape to fix a wing mirror onto my car until I could get it to the garage for repairs. I have used tape to fix a leaky pipe, and also found the tape very handy to have when repairing a hole in a tent. It's wonderful stuff :-D

I would think tent repair would be way better than all that junk they give you to repair tents that requires lots of coordination and never sticks. Hadn't thought of that, thanks and take care.

It is ducT tape unless it is made by the DucK company... I think. I had a friend in high school who made a dress out of duct tape for her final project in her fashion design class. The teacher must have thought it was pretty good because they put it on display at her graduation ceremony. Now they have all kinds of colored tapes that you could make lots of different things out of... red, yellow, purple, green... chrome!

You're right. The duck brand company is having a prom scholarship contest. So if you know anyone in need of a prom outfit and a scholarship, you can put three w's in front of duckbrand.com and look under promotions or search scholarships while there. That must have been an excellent dress to be on display at her graduation ceremony. Some of the past winners on the website for duck brand have some pretty wild outfits with the colored tapes. It's fun to go look at even if you're not into the scholarship aspect of it. Thanks and take care.

Well, it's going to be done a lot more, judging by the contest. $28,000 in scholarships, I think it said. It still is Duct Tape, it's just that Duck Tape is the brand I kept seeing and apparently they're the ones who are having the contest.

I am a little hesitant to chime in here! There was this same discussion about two weeks ago...!! I just went and checked my roll of both (new rolls) of tape...one brilliant blue and one standard GREY....and both of them have written on them..DUCT TAPE...soooo maybe in Canada only, it is "Duct Tape." This was also a hour long discussion on Dr. Oz...and I dually noted, great for removing warts..as they need oxygen to live and when completely covered with duct tape, die! Cheers!

When I put it in, nothing else came up. Maybe it will get deleted. I'm getting discouraged, seems nothing I think up goes as a discussion any more. Any way, Duck Brand is a company that makes duct tape. So it is duct tape. One of the responders above clarified. Did the other person talk about the scholarships and the contest for making prom outfits? I was hoping I could help someone on Mylot go to college.

LOL...great discussion. There are a lot of uses for duck tape. Whoever came up with that really done the world a favor..lol..I have used duck tape to tape plastic over windows, fix wires, and trim my paint. I can't think of all the uses it must have.

Yeah, duct tape (duck brand it turns out) is really cool stuff. I'd be careful with electrical wires, but everything else, great stuff!

Yes, it was explained in response #3. Duck tape is a brand name. They're the ones having the contest I described.
