Eating and typing

Do you eat and type at the same time? I find it a bit gross if I munch on chips and type with greasy fingers. I don't like to have my computer get greasy or covered with crumbs or anything. And when I see others doing it, I can't stand it. I just want to walk away. If they ask me to use their computer, I can't seeing that it's greasy or filled with crumbs etc. How about you all? How do you feel about this?

hi sometimes when i don't have enough time i type and eat at the same time. i have no problem with that especially that i am using a PC so keyboards are cheap. by the way, try to blow on the keyboard keys and see how much dust and things are there in.

Do you clean your keyboard thereafter or leave it as it? I clean and dust every so often to prevent dust from accumulating but having grease build up is harder to clean.

indeed, grease is harder to clean. i remember in 1998 when i get my first computer i was covering the keyboard with a transparent plastic.

The last time I cleaned up my computer desk I found biscuit crumbs in the keyboard. My fault, I couldn't resist having a couple of cookies while typing and now I have to clean the keyboard out again. I don't eat and type but the ocasional biscuit now again.

Sometimes I do bring a cookie or two to the keyboard but then end up eating it first, washing my hands and then typing. So I don't know why I didn't just eat the cookies in the kitchen and then come to the computer.

That's true. Cleaning under the keys is difficult and quite a hassle.

I suppose enjoying food separtely is a better way to go than to feel you neither ate nor did work.

For some odd reason I tend to have a munching crave everytime I sit on the computer. But since that's one of my pet peeves I have to either eat beforehand or fight the crave until later.

Hi, ElsaElsa. I do eat while I am typing. But when it comes to something that is messy and greasy, I will wash my hands after eating, then I will get back on the computer. Or, I may just eat first before getting on the computer. I don't like to type with greasy and slimy fingers, I can't type as fast as I would like to.

Just the thought of having to touch my computer with greasy slimy fingers puts me off. So I really don't eat when I'm on it. But there are times that I wish I didn't have this issue and just live with it.

I can see how having to eat would become a necessity if you have to be on the computer the whole day.

I feel the same as you. Not only that I can`t type and eat at the same time, as food will fall into the keyboard, and the keys will feel dirty, but also I need to do one thing or the other Also, I am a laptop user, so it`s even more disgusting to get your keyboard dirty.

I also notice that some keys jam with extra gunk underneath the keys so that will prevent further activity until the keyboard has had a thorough cleaning.

That's good that you never got your computer greasy or dirty for that matter. I don't think I eat chips and cookies without making crumbs so for me it's not an option to use the computer while eating.

For me there are times that it can't be avoided but I don't like our computer to have crumbs and our keyboard to get greasy. What we did was we bought a cover for the keyboard so that the cover will get dirty first

Oh that's a good idea to get a cover. Is it just as easy to type with the cover as it is without?

Hello Elsa! I think it's not hygienic to type while eating finger foods, but I do have this weird habit of always eating while reading or typing things. I do eat with a fork and spoon though! And I think there is a big difference between the eaters you are referring to in this discussion, lol. I'm a multitasker so I usually do multiple things at once, but my laptop is grease and crumb free! LOL.

That's good to hear. Using a fork or spoon does reduce the hygiene issue since I was thinking more of finger foods. I know these days people are trying to do more than one thing at a time and eating is rarely an activity done by itself.

Good thing that I am like you, eating and typing just don't cut for me. I only eat infront of the computer when I am watching shows on it, which doesn't involve much keyborad activity. I'll wash my hands before I start using the computer again, I can't stand grease and food remains on the keyboard, and is basically like eating on your bed, which also disgusting.

Oh thank goodness I'm not the only one. I feel I spent a lot of money on my computer and I'd like it to look new as long as possible. Food remains really take a toll on its overall appearance. I also don't like it when people wipe their hands on their pants to continue typing. It's just transferring grease to more places.

No I don't eat and type at the same time mainly because the computer is kept upstairs and I don't like anyone including me eating upstairs mostly because used cutlery and plates are kept in the rooms and they start to smell as time goes on lol

That's a good point. Bringing food to the computer is an added task and extra clean up afterwards. Best to keep food away.

Hi ElsaElsa, Personally, I don't like to eat and type at the same time. It, either one or the other. I can't stand to find grease on my keyboard. Not only it's not esthetic but also it's not hygienic as well. Food remain to attract bacteries and this is not a good thing.

My sentiments exactly and when I see others do it, I get disgusted and they look at me like I'm some sort of paranoid clean freak when I really am not.

I also get same feeling in similar condition. Also there is risk of key board getting damaged if we eat/drink while working on computer.
