My purse

India

Yesterday I had left my pant for washing, but forgot to remove the purse of pure leather from its hip pocket. It had not only currency notes, but my credit card, ATM card and my identity card. I always ask my daughter in law to check the pockets before soaking the clothes for wash or putting in the washing machine. She keeps busy with her twin sons; they are having loose motions for 3 days, probably due to teething. So she too forgot to remove the purse. While drying on the balcony (not in spinner, power had failed), my wife could see it. She was so sad; it was her gift to me, on my last birthday. Luckily all were intact, just wet. We dried in sunlight. When taken to bank the credit cards and shopping cards failed to work, I have to get new. The brown purse of pure leather needs a coat of polish only. Do you use a purse, do you keep your cards there, have you ever faced similar incident, who does the washing, do you use a washing machine? Please share. Happy posting, cheers Prof

Hello sir, I am particular on checking my hubby’s shirt or pant’s pocket before soaking the same for washing. I knew that there must be some valuable documents in his pocket. He is keeping his credit/debit cards, driving license, money, photos etc in his purse and sometimes some important papers just keeping on pockets so I have to be careful about the same. But with my elder son’s uniform short-pant, most of the time I am checking it before washing and on check nothing is available but if I ignore it then that day toffees will be in his pocket. It is not a valuable item then also I felt bad on my negligence.

Hi Sree dear It is so nice, you do the check, toffees are not valuable but they can leave stains when wet... Thanks for the response, cheers God bless you. Prof

Well you are indeed lucky enough. Had those important cards been torn then that certainly is a big problem for you. In my case I am not really putting wallets in my pockets because I always have a bag where I put all my belongings but one time I went out to buy something from the nearby store bring some bills with with me which I kept on the pocket of my skirt. But I was not able to buy what I want from the store so I went back home but was unable to remove the bills and coins from the pocket of my skirt. When I changed my clothes and then had it laundered. When it dried along with other clothes I was the one who folded and there I saw the bills along with the coins. The bills were so crumpled but thank God they were not torn and were still accepted in the store.

I save all cards in my wallet. Until today, I have never experienced a problem like you. When replacing the pants, I always strive to secure my wallet first.

Good thing the purse was alright . Leather is quite tough stuff. My husband left a form in his pocket of his shirt when it was in the laundry. It was white paper in a white shirt and got missed even though I checked the pockets first. We spread the form out flat and laid it on paper towel and let it dry as it was important for work. When it dried,we scanned it on the computer scanner and it was still readable. A couple of times it has been bank cards over the years, the bank usually issues another as soon as they know. The strip on the back gets ruined in the water even though most of it is only plastic.

Hi, prof. I hope that everything is ok. I have a purse with my credit cards and some cash inside. But I don't put it in my pocket, I put it in my handbag instead. :) Most of the time, I do the washing at home. And of course, I have had such experiences, forgetting to check the pockets before washing. It turned out a mess if there was tissue paper inside!

I think we're all guilty of leaving things in our pockets and they end up getting washed. I've done this, of course. I try to remember to check my pockets when I take my pants off so that it doesn't happen.

I always check the pockets of all the clothing that I am getting ready to wash. I know that there have been several times over the course of my life that I've accidentally left things in my pockets only to later find them destroyed in the bottom of the washer, or even worse, claimed by the next person that has used the washing machine. Besides that, I also try not to keep things in the pockets of my clothes anymore.
