did you notice that you can no longer become a fan of all the fan pages in facebook? you can now only like the fan page. they changed the button from become a fan to like. so all the fan pages will now showing 1,000,000 people like this instead of 1,000,000 fans. what do you think? do you preferred the become a fan button or the like button? or it does not really matters to you?

As a new facebook user, I wondered about this. Because I thought before it said, "fan" and then the last time I went to request someone, I saw the "Like" icon and got a little confused.. It doesn't matter to me, though I do wonder why they changed it???

Ah, I see your point..Maybe a few days before doing this they should have alerted everyone to the change, MySpace does this, don't know why FaceBook would not..

yeah, they just changed it. so it is really weird over there. for example if you created a fan page, then you go all the way promoting your fan page asking people to become a fan of it, then your friends will be asking you, how to become a fan? i just see a like button? it is so embarrassing!

i am agree with your opinion which it will become a like page if they change the system like that. Maybe they want to copy the easiness of twitter which people just only follow someone. Then they made their version. The facebook version is just 'like' button. I think both should be implemented on facebook.

that's one of the possibilities too. but i think becoming a fan to a page means more than just liking a page. so they should have kept the become a fan button while adding the like button.

that's true, mjcookie. but since they have changed the become a fan button, why not they change the whole thing to be a facebook like page instead.

I think becoming a fan of something or someone is different and way more intense than just liking it.

yes, i think mostly the reason is caused by fan pages abuse. i saw that there are so many fan pages which are really nonsense and annoying. and because of that, the real/official musician fan pages have to suffer now.

Yes, I did notice. I am on there all the time. I think being able to comment on things is fine. I don't see alot of problems. I recall people were upset recently because of the major change FB made to their entire make-up on the site. I was alittle confused at first but it all jived fine after awhile I was navigating fine before very long at all. I don't see any big difference between the fan button and the like one.

I like the "Become A Fan" button more. At least it distinguishes it from my other activities like liking someone's status or activity. I don't know why they'd have to make those changes; in my opinion, it's unnecessary. I like Facebook the way it is.

i agree with you on this totally, mjcookie. it really messes up our liking someone's status or activity with this new liking a page thing. now, when i become a fan of a cocacola fan page, it's no longer showing on my activity as victorywp became a fan of coca-cola but it shows as victorywp likes coca-cola. i don't think my friends would understand that i have became a fan of coca-cola or any new page from now on. maybe they would think that i like a new friend called coca-cola, or have changed my interest to liking coca-cola, etc. it just does not distinguishes it from our other activities anymore, as you said.

Yes that's exactly what I am trying to say. I wonder what brought them to change it.

I think it doesn't really matter, but I still prefer having the become a fan button because it just sounds better. I think Facebook Is copying youtube with the liking stuff (As you might know YouTube got rid of the 5 star rating system and replaced it with a like/dislike system. )

that's true about following youtube, Fertogo. but what i feel is that if it is called a facebook fan page, it should have fans in it. otherwise it should just be called facebook like page. so i prefer having the become a fan button and showing how many fans a facebook fan page has.

I agree with muscles4me, and the rating system does not have to be too complicated but a like or dislike button is just too simple. I think my one should implement a three-star rating. Once I mean it's useless, two stars mean it's okay, and three stars being it's amazing. Some like this would be a lot better than a simple like or dislike button, maybe you want to rate the page but you don't necessarily want to give it the best rating, and when there's only one good rating and one bad one you really don't have a choice.

if youtube and facebook have changed to like/dislike system, why should mylot go for scale rating from this existing positive/negative system? anyway, i think it is a good idea and you should open a discussion in all mylot categories and i am sure goaskalice will reply you with regards of that idea.

I noticed that yesterday when I went to become a fan of something on the History Channel lol. There was only the like button at the top. I wondered if I was going to receive daily news from it seeing as I wasn't listed as a 'fan.' Was surprised today when the rss feed actually rolled in their page news today. I liked it better the other way with the fan button. I know a lot of friends of mine on FB are pretty confused about it and don't like it either. Makes you wonder why they feel that they have to tweak something that's working perfectly fine?!

that's true, JoyfulOne. i think that's working perfectly fine for me too and does not have the need to be tweaked. maybe there are people who abuse the use of a fan page to gain fans. so facebook decided not to show the number of fans and instead just show how many people likes that page.

I think facebook is upgrading to accommodate their increasing population. I am no fan of facebook and only go there once in a while. But I need to check there after reading this post to see what they have changed.

i prefered it the old way."like" doesn't seem to save the page, and then i'd have to look for it later. it almost seems they find out what works for people, and then F**k it up purposely over there.

you seem to be so mad about the changes. personally i dislike that changes too. i own a facebook fan page and previously i can say that i have 1,000 fans on my page, but now i can only say i have 1,000 people like my page. the excitement is so different.

I haven't noticed it before you said about it. Well, I think it doesn't really matter. Maybe Like it button is better because not always people like to be called fans. You can like something, but you won't call yourself a fan of it. It takes a lot more than just like to be a fan. I think that to become a fan you need to be obsessed with something. But you can always like a lot of things.

yes that's true, soleya. nowadays there are so many weird facebook fan pages like i will name my son megatron if i got 1,000,000 fans, my girlfriend will marry me if i get 1,000,000 fans, etc. of course i don't want to be called a fan of these types of pages (maybe just like these pages but not a fan). so i think this is the reason they changed it. but still, i think they should not change all the fan pages to become like pages. i mean especially for those official musician fan pages, they should have maintained them with fans.

fan page is different from personal page. personal page can only add friends up to a maximum of 5,000 friends. but fan page can have unlimited fans. but you still need a personal page in order to create a fan page. 2-3 people? you don't know the exact number of friends you have in your facebook? and you don't even bother to check on it? maybe you just use that facebook account to add certain friends like ckyera? just joking, don't angry like this ---

yes, that is new. so from now onwards, we can never become fans for certain pages and we just can merely like that page. they should also change the name saying fan page to like page.

i think it will only matters a lot if you are a fan page owner, especially if you have spent a lot of time and money to promote it. there is a very big difference of promoting something like become a fan of *fan page name* compared to come and like *fan page name*. don't you think so? who would like to promote something like the latter one?

I'm sorry, but it really doesn't matter for me at all! I'm not a facebook fan! LOL Maybe because, it doesn't caught my attention. It's just like friendster, adding some friends, and making some chats. There are many ways you could connect your friends to you...!! Am I right????

i have a friendster fan profile before i created facebook fan page and i am still using both now. but i focus more on my facebook fan page because it seems to be more happening in facebook rather than friendster. now since facebook changed their fan pages to become like pages, i don't know what's the use of it already.

I dont use facebook much...so i dont know when the changes took place....i have never been so much on face book to notice all this....i had joined it just by the invitation of some friends there..that's it...so for me it doesn't matter much

actually it's not a major changes on facebook and in fact it only applied to facebook fan pages (not facebook personal pages). so basically if you don't own a fan page (or have never became a fan of any pages), you won't care much of it (or don't even notice the changes).

I'm a FB member and never used the fan button. I doubt I'll use the like button. Maybe I'll use it on some of my friends just for grins when they say they're having a bad day. I'll select "like".

hi hofferp. i think you mean the other like button, which is used to like your friends' status. but what i mean is on the fan page itself, mostly used by musician/bands or other business to promote their things. for example, this coca-cola fan page in facebook: http://www.facebook.com/cocacola

For me it doesn't really matter if 1. there is an improvement in the functionality of the page 2. the change of 'name(Become a Fan to Like )' does not change the flesibility of your fans to join your FanBase.... All I care about is flexibility of the feature...

but there is no improvement by changing become a fan to like button and also the statistics of showing how many fans you have to how many people likes your page. usually when my friend became a fan of a page, it will show up on my news feed as *friend* became a fan of cocacola. so i would become a fan too if i am interested with that fan page. but now, it will show up on my news feed as *friend* likes cocacola. i would just thought that my friend changed his interest and i will never thought that it is a fan page actually.
