Does your cat ever scratch you accidentally or on purpose? I have a kitten and he is always doing that. He has his claws out when he is playing and is always scratching my arm or foot. One day I was taking him off the windowsill and he poked my lip with his claw and drew blood. He is sweet other than these nasty habits.

Kittens don't learn to keep in their claws unless they are taught to do so. Now, cats learn by various means. Most kittens learn to not scratch and bite from siblings or older cats. You can teach him to be more careful by crying out "ouch" or whatever owie noise you want. It also is helpful to take the very tips of the claws off with a clipper so he doesn't impale you by accident

The kitten that I adopted last year took to scrambling up my legs when he was small. This was bad enough when he climbed up the outside, but on occaision, he started to climb up on the inside of my trouser leg! Needless to say, my legs rather quickly became pretty well covered with scratches. He's now 10 months old and he's more or less given up the habit of climbing up me though he still does it from time to time, I'm usually alert to what he's doing and I put my hand under him to boost him up to where he wants to get to - my shoulder. Any cat owner is going to get scratched from time to time though. It's usually accidental, though any cat'll scrach if it get annoyed with what you are doing to it.

I've had it happen before. Quite normal actually. It can be difficult to tell what an animal is capable of. But, I wouldn't worry. Cats will be cats. You have to adopt your own technique to treat the situations as they come up. Like for example keep a considerable distance between yourself and your cat when playng. Use a toy that they can claw at, that doesn't get near your skin. Little tricks like that help reduce the problem.
