I am starting to get REAL annoyed with all these people who say how "real" they are.. it is a term that I think is used in an extremely stupid way... the term " I am the realest person you will ever meet" wow it gets on my nerves.... I have a theroy I think people like to tell others how real they are because there is nothing real about them at all...I think they need to convinve themselves that they are strong and in a wierd way better than other.. I say that because when they say it.. they always say it in a "real" cocky way... don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with being comfortable with yourself but when someone flaunts it like that to me it shows a bit of insecurity...what do yall think?

Yeah, it sounds like a coping mechanism to hide their insecurity within. However, the people that usually tells that to me really are less pretentious than other people so there must be a truth when they say that "they are real". But I wouldn't say that they said it in a flaunty, cocky way. They said it simply, and truthfully. And I believed them. It's those people who say, "I am not a hypocrite person. If I don't like the person, I don't like the person. I won't pretend to like that person." What's worse is that they say it over a person whom they just knew, or never really knew that much. It's like they are closing their doors from knowing the person more. If I don't like the person, I dislike that particular trait but not the entire person because somewhere in there is a kind heart, or a good humor, or a responsible character.

I must live in another zone. I don't hear anyone using that term and I don't understand why anyone would think it was necessary anyway. Are they saying they're more honest than anyone else or that they're a human being and you're not? Exactly what are they talking about?

maybe their just trying to increase their confidence by trying to make themselves believe such things.

I agree. Whenever someone announces that they are this or that they are that, it's a good bet that they aren't. Just like when a salesman says, "Trust me"...you know for sure at that point that you shouldn't trust him.

Yes, insecurity is an important factor in human behavior. Maybe They are just trying to convince themselves and others. You know, if you tell a lies enough times.... But some people are really so sure themselves, that it gets on others nerves, especially if others are not so sure. Heh, I think, that you need to decide seperately in each and every case.

I know what you mean LBDR! I have met so many people who believe themselves to be "TRUE INDIVIDUALS". The reality of it is that those who need to PROVE that they are "real" really aren't! I know this one lady in particular who is so fake that she makes me think of a breathing Barbie Doll. She is a Hairdresser though, so she may employ her lack of personality as a survival method. People like that are so insecure that they make those around them who AREN'T fake, uncomfortable and unlikely to stick around. So who do they hang out with? Other shallow fakers. Such a vicious cycle! People who feel the need to brag about their individuality often follow a very shallow and unvarying theme. True individuals, however, will SHOW how "real" they are by their actions. These people don't need a special hairstyle or the latest "Bench" jacket to pull it off.
