http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100528/D9G02PU80.html ZAPATA, Texas (AP) - The waters of Falcon Lake normally beckon boaters with waterskiing and world-record bass fishing. But this holiday weekend, fishermen on the waters that straddle the U.S.-Mexico border are on the lookout for something more sinister: pirates. Twice in recent weeks, fishermen have been robbed at gunpoint by marauders that the local sheriff says are "spillover" from fighting between rival Mexican drug gangs. Boaters are concerned about their safety, and the president of the local Chamber of Commerce is trying to assure people that everything's fine on the U.S. side of the lake. there is more to the story, just click the link but this gives the gist of it. Now pirates are closer to home. Now more than ever we should be beefing up security/troops/militias at the border. Is this the world we want?

Ok this topic wouldn't be complete unless it had some pirate talk in it so here goes: Arggh matey! baton down ye'r hatches and arm da militia. w're full sail to'er sink dim scally wags an send em to Davey Jones locker! Yea I know my sea tongue needs work. Anyways the same thing has been going on for year around Cuba. Never ceases to amaze me how much money we spend to secure things thousand of miles away but right here at home its never addressed.

Your pirate talk isn't all that awful.

Evan - that is exactly my problem with it. Why do we have to even worry about pirates?

We shouldn't. They're allowed to shoot in Texas. I think that if one boatload of those buggers wind up full of holes the rest will get the message.

well can't believe that its happening that near in the us. But i think with more manpower this problem will be solved because of the small area it is happening than a whole ocean like whats happening in another side of the world.

I think bounties on pirates should do the trick!

Well I read about this the other day and it seemed like all the problems were happening on the Mexican side of the border. I say just put a good ship or two on the border to make sure the pirates don't come to our side and our fisherman don't go to there side and we should be ok. I think when you illegally enter Mexico you're asking for trouble.

I agree but as it said in the article, mexican fishermen come over to the other side, what is to say these thugs wont? I agree placing a boat or two, lets see how long it takes for that to happen. We were thinking we could take a pirate hunting vacation!

Well, of course it's not so I say these pirates should be shot on sight. That will not only protect the American fishermen but it will send a clear message to the Mexican marauders that they need to stay on their own sisde of the lake. That's what we would do if something like that was happening on Lake O.
