i wrote a review in a certain site then i received a lot of comments, though some commented to the topic i wrote but this one guy commented on the way i wrote it, according to him, his pity for my english, grammar and sentence construction. its not a paying site actually though i only go there to share my review to a certain site based on my own experience. i check the guy profile and i found out that his from UK and he have lots of review their with a perfect comments from other members. my view to this is that, since his from UK of course he will have a perfect grammar nor can construct a good sentence coz he have lots of english vocabulary stuck in his mind unlike me that i only have limited stuck of english vocabulary, i just say things nor words according to my own english understanding as most of the time my english is just basic and not that dept. english is not my native language and its not my native tounge though at least i tried my best to explain and share my thought to a certain topic. i replied to his comments that if he can speak and write my native language perfectly well then perhaps i will understand if he will commented my english but if not then i would say that i am more smart than him for atleast i can speak and write both language. besides i can construct perfect sentence in my tagalog language and so do him in his english language. better yet, be thankful for what he have and appreciate those who tried their best to speak english. what do you think guys..

Hi, Sometimes it takes years of learnings to acquire a skill, but one may loose it in a moment. A person who has started boasting about a certain skill he has, is surely on the verge of loosing it, and the most unfortunate thing is that, he is unaware of it. Overconfidence always kills the skill. As a matter of fact pride and wisdom don't go together. One may have either of them but never both of them. One of them diminishes the other. About this guy, he is boasting on something that he hasn't acquired with much effort. He is doing a dangerous thing. All his knowledge about english language may turn into nothing. We don't know when that is gonna happen, but that will happen very soon. About you, you really don't have to think about it. When somebody hurts you like that, you should not react immediately. Don't be angry. Take a more realistic point of view, and the vanity of it all will lie stark naked in front of you. Being a good human being is far better than being a good grammarian. Thanks God bless you

yes your right, boasting something which he hasn't acquired with good effort unless me or those who just try to acquire and study english. if we born and grow up with it then it will be easy for us and like i said i can construct tagalog sentences perfectly well coz its my native language, and since english is not and i only have limited english vocabulary then i only explain things based on the english that i know. i need to be mastered in english to perfect my grammar, perhaps even a year of english tutorial is not enough, it takes many years unless i also live in an english country where i can talk to english people everyday.

my bf from UK also know that language and i only taught him once and he never forget it up to now, actually it means i love you, i like you in tagalog is "gusto kita". learning other language is not really easy unless you live in that country too coz you used to hear the language everyday but if not then its really hard as sometimes we forget the words since we didnt use it all the time.

I absolutely agree. I know a few tagalog words too. For example, one of my friends from Philippines said, "Mahala Kita" which, I think means, I like you. Thats cool. I tried to learn a few tagalog words to impress her, but learning a language to an extent where you may impress somebody, is no easy job. So I finally gave up.

Hello Home-shoppers, And So? Let him have this stupid bragging, discriminating comments to himself Blah blah blah and more blah to him. Honestly, he'd probably just only good in English and that's it. but for us who's English language is only secondary language, we have the advantage. What if this so-called good writer stuck somewhere in the Philippines where he can't speak other languages? his so called good in blogs will do him no GOOD. Don't Let this Loser get to you, i can feel you're anger in this discussion, i am sure i would be pissed too. but you know, not having a secondary language is a disadvantage. no matter how good writer you are. and i know, you did you're best in what ever topic you wrote. besides, were no longer in SCHOOL, criticisms in how you write english is no longer valid unless you are a paid writer, right? but am sure you aren't so let him be. pity him instead.

actually, i saw all his writing and i would say his a good writer or perhaps a paid writer, based on his writing his like a professional writer. and im not a professional writer, if i write something i only express it based on the stick english vocabulary that i have so if he uses a lot of debt english and good grammar then lucky him for atleast he never try so hard to study english like we i do.

hey... don't be discouraged. just view this as a constructive criticism on your part. like all things that are not innate to us, the English language needs practice and patience (that is why we have it in school). don't be affected on negative comments. instead, take this as a challenge that soon you will be better on this. one tip i could give you is to be a wide reader. reading helps you in familiarizing English grammar and its usage. with reading, you will earn knowledge on a lot of things also, not just the language itself. starting discussions and responding here in mylot helps too! for me, English grammar and sentence construction is important so that the articles that you write won't mislead or confuse readers, whether they're English or not. keep it up! PS i'm a Filipino myself and i'm just happy to read the comments of our fellow mylotters of how they're encouraging you.. :D

yes thats why i tried to be active here by posting and reading to acquire some words though we still cant avoid having mistakes specially that i didnt use the language everyday in speaking coz were using tagalog all the time, i can only use english in here through net. but then knowing that people came from different country with different language they just supposed to appreciate those who try their effort and encourage more to practice english than say something negative to them. i just hate those kind of people.

If he was a gallant and well-intentioned man,he would not be writing this. The site is not his,so he can go anytime on a ...English site. These sites are international. If someone does not understand an idea or a comment may request explanations. Good idea could be: Admin give test at registration on myLot I would lose the test ,because my test will be only with...emoticons (who did not understand what I wrote, send me a private message...I will draw

your right, besides its not a paid writing site for students to be submitted and have a high grade, maybe he forgot that the site is not an english tutorial site where he can comment to all members on the way we construct our english. or perhaps he forgot that english is not the only language on earth for him to expect everyone to have a perfect english.

You are right. But actually you are way smarter than him. What's with the comment? You didn't write a review about writing in English right? His comment should only focus on your review and not in the way you wrote it. Shame on him. Just keep on doing what you do and ignore these people.

yes your right since the site is more on review then he just supposed to say something about it whether my english is good or not. maybe his just one of those narrow minded people.

yes your right, besides even if we study the oanguage, sometimes we still cant avoid to avoid mistakes since we didnt acquire them normally so we cant make it 100%. i can construct english sentence nor i can do it in good grammar but sometimes we cant avoid mistakes.

I agree with you! This guy had no right to be critical of your English. From what I read on this Post, your word construction is quite presentable. Best not to let such perfectionists upset your day! You are doing fine, and I just wish I could speak and write another language!

thanks, though sometimes we really cant avoid mistakes since its not my native language thats why i tried to join discussion site to practice and widen my english and learn from other members by reading their post, and if theres new vocabulary then its an additional information to my part. we really can avoid those who are too narrow minded thinking they are already good for infact we are all good based on our own language so if someone try to learn and use other language then better yet appreciate them.

homeshoppers You said what you should have perfectly.ggod on you. He should have known not to criticize as you were doing the best you could in a language that I know is one of the hardest to learn, English yes you were more smart than he was as you could do both languages whereas he probably could no construct a sentence in Tagalong himself.

yes your right, besides its not a site for english lesson. i dont care if his a professional writer nor if he received perfect comments from other members due to his good written review, its not bad to correct other people if its a wrong grammar but atleast he must know that we live in different countries with different languages and since his a native english then he must atleast understand those who tried than say negative words to them. i would be glad if he can say that he appreciate my review and that hope it will help to improve my english well, than saying his pity for my poor english and blah blah..

You should not take his criticism to heart. He as a friend should have understood your difficulty and not made much of that problem. The way you've put your views is quite easy to understand.Work hard without being disheartened and you'll gain proficiency in English.

Hi homeshoppers you need not worry about the guy at all.Do you know why language is used?It is used as a medium of communication.Grammer and sentence construction is a part of the process which involves other people understand what you want to say.Let me assure you that there are lots and lots of people who dont have english as their native language and yet they can convey their feelings to their friends in their own way..so friend there is nothing to feel sorry about. In fact it's the other guy who must be sorry as it appears that he hurt your feelings which is not at all desirable. We must remember that no one is perfect and with practice we can develop perfection in a foreign language and I am sure that you will be able to do that soon.

Hi Homeshoppers...... I don't like people who act like language expert and point at others grammar mistake. I have face it and its really lower my confidence in using English. Its good to hear you strike back to him . We know learning other language not easy and we have to use it really often to makes us more fluent, that is something we can not get in non English speaking country.

You are perfectly right when you commented that you know two languages. That guy must be nut. Sometime people want to show that they know or write better than several others and this they do by pointing out mistakes in others. They don't know that by doing this they are not showing that they are superior to others, on the contrary, they indirectly admit their inferiority complexions. You know that we are not required to become master of languages to communicate with others. A basic knowledge is all that we require. We should only try and communicate in such manner which other can understand. Grammatical or punctuation mistakes do not count meaning is clear. Forget the episode and write whatever your heart dictate you.

don't pay attention to that arrongant people that only know how to critize others and don't stop for a minute to look at themselves, it's not great that he speaks english, because he is from UK, i bet he can't even say a phrase in your language or mine!

thats true, thats why i told him that if he can write in my language perfectly well and he will say that to me then maybe i can understand him, but boasting his knowledge that he never even try hard to obtain is not really a smart thing to do.
