June 16, 2010 1:00pm CST
i belive that it is time to ban smoking worldwide, why? too many people smoking and there is no place for non smokers to stand, why do people smoke in public places, just because it's outside that does not mean the smoke just going to go up, stupid politician, they ban smoking in clubs, railways station and pubs in uk and did not careless what happen when they do, people going to smoke outside it, they did not careless about that... it is time for total ban, free to smoke but don't make other smoke your 2nd hand smoke. full stop!

That would be ok, but then not one penny of the BILLIONS in tax money should be used for the public. Smokers ONLY should benefit from it.

Great answer Laglen! I am so so sick of all the money that we pay in for taxes so that the non-smokers can carry a lighter load. We don't get so much as a thankyou and not one ounce of appreciation. For all their whining, they do deserve for everyone to up and quit. That'll never happen so we should use all that tax money to build private smoking areas.

There are a number of states here that ban it in some public buildings. As to our national leadership, they do not have the authority to do this. It would be well beyond the constitutional scope of their enumerated powers.

I don't smoke and I have COPD due to having so much bronchitis. I have severe breathing problems. But I don't think that total outside smoking should be a law. The smokers have a right to smoke just as I have a right to breathe clean air no matter where I am. I have no objection to others smoking as long as I am not near them. I am free to leave the area if I need to. No, smoke does not go up. It does however, go in the direction the wind is blowing. I just stay up wind of the person or persons smoking.

Thank you moondancer, it appears to me some want things their way, no matter what it is. How can you tell a person that is not breaking the law that they can not smoke outside, the non smokers are the ones that pushed to get them out there. Decent people wiill walk away from the entrance of a place to smoke. Only a few is going to stand there and show them they can. Yes us smokers do have rights, and until it becomes illegal which it never will, because of the taxes collected off the growers, then If outside is where you want me, outside I will be. If she sees someone standing in front of the door smoking then she should report them to the owner of the estiblishment. But as of yet I don't know what they could do about it since they are OUTSIDE, as she wanted them to be. I am so tired of this bs about smoking when there are hundreds of drunk drivers on the road every day and not a thing is being done about them. But hen you have to figure more drink and don't want their rights taken away from them. Yo are right it goes in the direction of the wind, and if I was a non smoker outside, and someone was smoking I would move, it is their choice to stand there an smell it, or breathe it in.

i am not asking for total ban but where there are people wait for service, than there should be smoking ban, you wait on a Q to get into a cinema or anything and you get smokers start smoking, just becuase they are outside, thats not right.

Yes my friend, you are right. There should be complete ban on smoking. People who don't smoke become second hand smokers without choice. Smokers are so selfish. They don't understand what other are getting affected. There should be complete ban and smokers should be fined for smoking in public places. Smoking is injurious to health. It is also polluting the environment.

If someone is smoking where you are, go away. Would you like it if someone dictated your life?

I don't like other people (ex gov't.) telling me what I can or can't do. However, I don't like smoking. I don't think smoking is healthy for the people or for the people who are somewhat forced to ingest second hand smoke. I would have to say though with the pros and cons considered, I would have to say I am in favor of world governments banning smoking in public places. I simply can't ignore the medically deriven fact that smoking causes multiple kinds of cancer. It also has purposefully added chemicals that lead to chemical dependency.

i have no problems that gov tell people what to do, after all thats what we elect them for, as long as it's good. gov is after all servant to the people and people are the masters but it does not happen that way in real life but it should.

In India a smoking ban in public places came into affect nearly two years back. There were wide spread protests when it was first announced, but the minister held on to the law and it got implemented. I think despite initial skepticism the move has really held on and has generally been deemed as a good move. Cheers! Ram

I don't think there's an easy solution to this one. Too bad somebody can't invent a "cone of containment" that keeps the smoke around the smoker and doesn't allow it to dissipate.

HI, those who inhaled second hand smoke is more prone to get sick or affected than those who are smoking that I would say that smoking should be banned in public places. I have nothing against those who smoke as long as I am not near them for this will be very harmful especially that i am pregnant. Whenever I came across with people that smoke i just have to cover my nose and my mouth so i won't be able to inhale it.

Hi there trillionaire, I would totally agree to ban smoking in public places worldwide, aside that you are contributing pollution you are also taking 5 minutes of individuals existence in this world because of your smoke.., as they say it dangerous to smell a smoke than smoking.. its a social responsibility, our government official should implement that.. have a great day and happy mylotting..

I no longer smoke, having given it up twenty-five years ago. However, I do not believe it is up to me to tell other people what they are allowed to do. That smacks of dictatorship. In the U.S., first it was bans on smoking in restaurants, then other public places, then on the job and finally, some businesses fire people for smoking IN THEIR OWN HOMES! Baby steps turn into giant leaps such as the one you are suggesting. If you don't want second hand smoke, don't stay around smokers. If they don't want you bemoaning their habit, they can stay away from you, but to demand that everyone else do what you want, without regard to their own wishes, is wrong. From the smoking, our government is now dictating what oils can be used in our cooking, how much sugar is too much and they are looking at telling us how much salt we can use. Frankly, I would much prefer they do something worthwhile like find a way to increase the job market, stop the oil flow, and cut out many of the worthless programs and positions in the government today. Instead, another Czar is added for anything the government wants to take over - which is turning out to be everything. No one should be able to tell me whether I can smoke in my house or what I can eat in my house, or what I can wear in my house, etc., but it is rapidly getting to that point.

A nice goal but I don't believe we should force people to make those decisions on their own property. You can ban smoking on your property though and try to persuade others to do the same. you can't have a free society that tells you what you can do with your own property.

Smoking is a health hazard. I can say this with a clear consccience as a non-smoker. We all breathe the same air. Smoking in public places should be banned. It should be done as a consideration to all.

Way I see it, if you are in a club you know that there are people in there that smoke, if you don't like smoke you don't go in. Same with bars. Now I have no problem with the ban in resturants I do smoke and I even don't like it coming into my face while I am eating. You people that don't smoke complained till they stopped everyone from smoking inside so they go out side, and as far as I know we are not breaking the law yet. Most places have a sign that says no smoking by the door, oh I'm sure there are people that are going to do it same as with any other law they make. But most people that are decent will move away from the entrance. What I would like to know from you, is what right do you have to tell me that I can and should not be allowed to smoke. You didn't want us inside, so now they are out side and you still complain. Maybe you should of left things alone. It is my right to do anything that is not against the law, same as when they ban booze did it stop people from getting it. I hate people that try to stick their noses into everyone else's life, just because you don't do it, whether it bad for you or not, some enjoy smoking. If you want to take up a cause, why don't you start with stopping the drunk drivers on the road, the things that is killing many people by being hit head on because they are so drunk they can't stay on the road, or would you be a drinker and think that is alright, sorry if I offend you and if you not then good for you. But eveyone so hung up on stopping people from smoking but could care less what a drunk does on the road.

Whether one is a smoker or a non smoker doesn't make it right to infilict ones life style on all! Yes, there should be bans on smoking in certain places and areas. In Singapore you are not allowed to smoke at bus stops, taxi ranks or where people gather in public places out doors. In Bnagkok, Thailand you are not permitted to smoke in public parks. These I think are good ideas. But as for a total outside ban that would be going too far.
