What Day of the Week is Your Day Off?

Here in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, all government employees would have their day off on Friday. Although I am not connected with government but my day off also scheduled during Friday but starting this week my day off is will be cancelled because my Senior Boss will go on vacation for more than 3 months or maybe it will turn to indefinite leave because we don't know if he will be back for work. I don't know hows life going on without day off. How about which day of the week your day off falls and do you find it?

I'm working here in the Philippines and my day off is the usual Saturday and Sunday. I don't think I will work to some company or boss that don't give me day offs. I have life other than work and I really love my weekends. As much as possible I don't want to work on these days. Unless of course its really an emergency and I have to come to office.

Hi juggerogre: I totally agree with you. If I don't have enough time for myself I would feel like a slave, because I would only have time to eat, rest and return to my work and that's not the kind of life I expect to have. In this case. I'd prefer to have my opwn business instead of working on these conditions. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

@juggerogre --Government employees in the Philippines are lucky because you will enjoy 2days day off each week. You can do alot of task in your home during the weekend and you can spend more time with your family every week. @starsailover --Yes I agree if we don't time to relax and spend to our family we are like slave. We must have time to enjoy. But sad to say there's a time for us that we have no choice. In my case I don't have choice, I came here for work so follow the flow of your new pace of life. I am only given time during night to enjoy and sleep.

I never had my days off cancelled, thankfully! For us, Saturday and Sunday is off, so we have two days a week off instead of one, which I am very happy about, of course!

@ puccagirl -- I checked your profile and you are from Israel. What a coincidence Philippines and Israel have similar days of day off. Better to have a 2days day off every week so that you can do whatever you want specially bonding time for the family. You are lucky to have a 2 days day off every week. @starsailover -- You are from Mexico mate. In our country specially private sector, employees can choose their day off. If you have a good workmate you can make a deal for exchanging time of duty. It depends on your agreement. I don't think if I can apply that here if my office because we don't have reliever if I am out of work.

Hi pucca girl: Neither do I but sometimes I have to change it another day due to the work we have to do here and because of personal issues. For example, next week I'll be celebrating my sister's birthday so I ask a day off and I'll have to work to recover this day later. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

My offs are Saturday and Sunday. I have no problem with it but at times, I would like to have a weekday off if I need to go to government offices. Sunday off for me is a big advantage because of the less traffic.

hi julyteen I am retired the past four years. I worked monday through Saturday and sometimes I had sat and sun off together. So some times I worked six days a week, sometimes five days a week but the good thing was I was only working thirty hours a week so had time for mylotting too.I was a page, which means I did all the shelving of media, helped ou in the children;'s program and picked up the stuff left of tables at closing time. I sometimes had to work several hours in the evening depending on when we were short of help.

Hi Hatley: I would like to have enough time to keep myloting and I think I'll find my way to do this. however. This won't be so easy being a lawyer because, even if I love my profession i will have to dedicate so much time preparing my speeches and the intelectual support to the things I will defend. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO.

Hi july teen: At this moment of my life. I work half time so my days off are monday, wednesday, and sunday and I work on tueday, thursday, friday and saturday. I work on a cyber cafe. Sometimes it can be a hard work I can tell you so it's good to have a day of work and then a day where you can sleep and have fun. But this would change when I get graduated. Thanks for asking us this question. Have a nice day. ALVARO

My days off begin on Friday and end on Sunday during the school year. I try to give myself Friday off. Right now I'm on Summer vacation, so every day is a day off. Except the fact that my mother has me cleaning the house.

Hi Stephanie Ann C: Now that I'm on my final year of my university and I only have to finish my final project it's like if I'm on permanent vacations. Of course I have to keep working on my final job and I don't lose time, as I say I work part time on a cyber cafe. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. ALVARO

There are 14 states in my country. Among them, two states are having day off on Friday and Saturday because their state government are dominated by Islamic ruling party. The rest of the states are having off day on Saturday and Sunday. I am staying in Penang and working during the normal office hour, so my rest days are Saturday and Sunday. Sometimes I prefer to rest on days other than Saturday and Sunday, to avoid the crowd at the shopping mall and cinema. Besides, I can have smoother traffic if I am going somewhere during my off day on normal working day. Happy posting and happy holiday!

I have Philippines friends too. They were my ex colleagues working in Intel Philippines. Unfortunately, I have lost contact with them after I resigned from my previous company. I have heard that the Intel factories in Philippines are shut down. Ya, you should pay a visit to Kuala Lumpur and take a look of the Petronas Twin Towers. The KLCC shopping mall underneath it is a good place to visit as well. I hope one day I got the chance to travel to Philippines. Happy posting and have a nice day!

Your living in Malaysia, a country near in the Philippines but a different culture. Lot of Filipinos are working in your country and they shared to how an employees live with regards to their day off. Hope I can visit your country soon to experience Petronas Tower. Anyway, you have a good idea in having your day off during working days because less traffics and malls are lesser shoppers so you felt relax.

our day off is sunday.. just like the british.. and most other countries in the world, i guess.. but there are 3 states in our country that totally defy this rule, becoz those states are run by 'opposition' parties.. and their off-days are Fridays just like Saudi Arabia.. just like any other Muslim State would be..

I saw your profile and I found out you're from Malaysia. Your country colonized by British before so maybe you got this from them. I admired Malaysia because you are not like Philippines colonized by Spaniards and for more than 300 years. Just know that you have 3 states that ruled similar with Saudi Arabia. I thought Malaysia is not divided to states. Your form of government is parliament?

Hi o0jopak0o: I agree with you. It's always good to have a day off when the almost the rest of the world is working . In these cases I love to go to the movies. I think that, when I find a real job, I'll ask my boss to give me vacations on low season for the same reason and for the lower cost on hotels and everything. Thanks for your answer. Have a nice day. In my country Saturday and Sunday is the time for government employees day off. They will enjoy 2 days relax, time for their family and some other stuff. It's different here in Saudi Arabia. I don't know what's the reason why it falls on Thursday and Friday. My Senior Boss already gone. He said to me before he left that he will never comeback because of some family problems. He came from India. I am closed to him because of his nice attitude. Hope I can have a day off even he is not around.

I remember my time in the Middle East when a day off was not had but eventually was one day a week; last year I gave a gold medal from that war to a Saudi that was training here in the Philippines ... it was a nice way to let more of that period go and build at the same time. Curently, I have no day off or any day off :) Eric

In my contract I am entitled to have a day off ones in every week but due to associates demand my boss cancelled all my day off supposed to be every Friday. It's very hard if you don't have any day off within the week because you don't have time to wash your clothes, shopping or visit other places to be familiar with this new surroundings. Although I am compensated per hour but still I need time to relax and sleep for the whole day or do some online stuffs.

Keep the faith ... compensation is good in the long term if it is fair :)

IN my country, there are 2 days off. IN some cases, in private corporations, you can work on saturday, and sometimes even in sunday`s. Most of the people are working Saturday too, but on Sunday they are free . My mom, for example, is working 5 days / week , having Saturday and Sunday off. In the rest of the week, she is working 8 hours / day .

I only have Sundays off right now. I work a full time job during the week and a part time job on Saturday. Every Saturday I work 12 hours. Needless to say I am exhausted all the time. I used to break up my part time work and did 8 hours Saturday and 4 hours Sunday - did that for almost ten months straight - no day off at all for 10 months. I got burnt out and told them if I cannot just work on Saturday I cant work there anymore. Luckily, the girl I split the weekend with liked the idea too. So she works 12 hours on Sunday. This way I can go to Church, out to eat with my family, and maybe some errands.

on my country, for private companies they have day off on saturday and sunday. but for government companies they have day off on sunday only. i'm not sure i understand the reason for this. but in the past, private companies only have sunday as day off. why the government change this rule, i don't know yet.
