I have seen some dogs eat grass. Is it a normal behavior for dogs? Why do they eat grass? 1) is it because they want to vomit because they have eaten something bad. 2) Is it a normal part of his diet? 3) Dogs eat grass simply because they like it.

yes. its due to indigestion. I believe they are doing this because they want to vomit something inside their stomach that they feel bad about. I also think its one of their OWN way of (some kind of.. medicine) in order to treat something bad inside their stomach. ^.^

I also think that it is because of indigestion. They will usually eat it if something is not agreeing in their stomach. It most-likely seems to break down the food more so that it is broken down enough to be fully digested. As niairen01 said, it is indeed used as their own kind of medicine, as it aids in digestion.

Dogs eat grass and weeds to solve their indigestion problems and other things that ail them. Their food isn't agreeing with their system even though it might be the best food. It might or might not be the best food, but it isn't the best food for them.

achilles, my daughter and I also saw a couple of stray dogs eating reeds like goats. My daughter exclaimed "Oh ma, the poor dogs are hungry!"

I have also seen sometime dogs eating grass but usually they do not eat anything similar. No idea as to why they eat, perhaps for a change

It is normal behaviour. I have heard before that when a dog is sick, he will eat grass. Not all sorts of grass but only few particular ones.

We had a cat who loved eating grass. It was normal, and she seemed to like it. I'd guess it's the same with dogs. Nothing to worry about, in my opinion.

According to wisegeek.com: that grassy taste may be reminiscent of the cattle or lamb product they had for dinner. Some dogs also enjoy green vegetables like broccoli. If your dogs eat grass on a regular basis, this could suggest dietary imbalance, though many vets might dismiss it. You may want to consider giving the dogs some green vegetables if they appear to want “something green.” Cooking the vegetables first may make them more digestible, resulting in less vomiting. Some do actually eat it simply because they like it.

I asked my mom this question one day to see why my dog was eating grass constantly. She told me that they he was eating grass because he wasn't feeling good and it makes there stomach feel better. I thought well ok i guess, but maybe i should ask a Veternarian this question when i bring my dog in again in a couple months and she might have the best answer for you. I believe it is a normal behavior for dogs to do, i have seen the dogs at work eat grass to when i take them out so i believe it is normal for them to do this. If your dog was the only one doing this then i would understand that something would be wrong but all dogs seem to do it.
