Hold-up and 16 Stabbed Wounds

Boston, Massachusetts
July 6, 2010 9:08pm CST
I made a discussion affirming facebook for paving the way to save my friends’ life after he was hold-up and stabbed. Finally, I was able to visit him and personally heard his story about what happened. Around 11pm he was on his way home waiting for jeepney when suddenly two men approached him. They’re both teenagers. The other one took his bag and the other one wrapped his arms around his neck and started to stab him. He screamed but no one heard him to help. Then, a guard came and called the nearest hospital. After 15 minutes an ambulance came and brought him to the hospital. He went straight to the emergency room. BUT…it’s been 30 minutes but no one is attending to him. He was soaking in blood and since he has no companion no one bothered to look after him or attend to him from among the medical staff. He asked one of the medical staff a favor to use her cellphone to connect to his facebook account and post the message that he was hold up and stabbed. Then he signed up waiver that he’s going home to ask his sister to accompany him and that they’ll go back to the hospital. After signing the waiver, he went out (bloody) and looked for a cab. No one wants to accommodate him. He requested one of the stand-bys to help him find one. Finally, a Good Samaritan cab driver took him in and brought him home. He rushed and asked his sister to go with him back to the hospital. The cab driver waited for him and took them back to the hospital. The incident happened at around11pm. He was attended to 2am! What a @%*#! The worst stabbed is located near his lungs and heart. A tube is connected to drain clot blood. He has IV/dextrose and oxygen on. Since he was given a second life…I believe that he has a mission. He has a mission to advocate for hospital reform. My heart was really crying while listening to him sharing what happened. We could have lost a wonderful friend for the hospital’s negligence in giving him prompt attention.

How was he even able to walk after 16 stab wounds and all that blood loss? This is unbelievable. The hospital doesn't have a trauma unit? How could someone in his condition not be seen right away let alone allowed to leave?

This is just so incredible to me. I don't understand why he had to have a companion to get treatment.

i could not think any JUST reason why this thing happened to my friend in the hospital...the treatment was not given due to him not having any companion. I hope this will given JUST action by the higher authorities!

Hi C, He did friend. There is a trauma unit but he was not attended too. The reason was he does not have any companion. Imagine, he signed a waiver just to go home and get a companion. he's just in the emergency room but no one is attending to him for about 30 minutes that's why he bravely stood up and went home. Unbelievable but it happened my friend!

My gosh, what kind hospital was that? Did he fight back that is why he was stabbed? 11pm is still early to be hold up. How can he manage to go home while stabbed and in pain. I salute to him, he is a true survivor. I know the feeling of being alone in the hospital, I've been alone for a few hours but already attended by the hospital staff. I think he can sue the hospital for that. What if it happens to my loved ones, I can't take it. He better sue them.

Hi Lanie, We share the same sentiments with you. It's hard to think and comprehend how this thing this happened to my friend. But it did happen. If it happens to my family i don't know how far my patience and temper will go. There's a purpose why this happen. We are looking forward for a positive result after incident.

this is sad msfrancisco, It's like the news I've seen in the Television, where a lady about to get pregnant was denied by five hospitals, it needed the help of the media to make sure this lady is accomidated, with the secretary or DOH, despicable alright, staff from the DOH doesn't need to be there if the staff gives a damn about them. I believe the DOH is on this situation not to mention a DOH staff had to accompany a pregnant lady! Philippines have a lot of Nurse and that's the kind of service that we get from our hospitals!

Hi LK, That news with the pregnant lady who was denied 5x for medical attention was so fresh when this incident with my friend happened. that's why we are really so angry that these things are happening and that the patients can't do anything about their situation. We need to make a revamp of our health and medical system and services. I hope the new adminsitration will seriously look into this matter.

Hi Sunny, He was robbed. My friend is so nice and the incident really surprised us. He cab driver really made it possible for him to survive as he was quick enough to respond. he even waited for him to get his sister and return to the hospital as it's the nearest hospital in the area. I agree with you the hospital needs to be punished and we are excited for that day to come.

Is this story really true? If it is, I suggest that you should take a complaint and claim with the irresponsible hospital right now!

Hi Renfew, A blotter was made about the incident in the nearest police station. There is already a plan on how to go about what happened in the hospital. I think he will even appear on television for this. We will be helping him work this out. THanks for your concern friend!

i agree ms francisco, that is a very good idea to go to the press and report it. have an interview so people will know and realize and its easier to sue the hospital if it was televised. praying for good progress not just with the health of your friend but even with his complains.

wow. In my country, hospitals are more concerned about earning money than providing medical services, but judging that your friend was waiting for a jeepney, I think we're from the same country. ---- yup! just checked! we are from the same country The hard part here is that your friend signed a waiver so the hospital would release him without treatment. Under the court of law, the waiver is a strong document that will absolve the hospital from not attending to him. Also, a nurse helped him connect to facebook via his phone, so he attented too at least. These are points you might want to build a strong defense on, because definitely when this goes to court or a preliminary hearing, your friends will be attacked using these evidences. Also, lucky for your friend that he's cellphone wasn't taken by the hold-uppers. Maybe they didn't really want to hold him up, what they wanted was to kill him. Hold-uppers rarely kill their victims, especially since there were 2 of them and only one of him. They could have easily just punched him or outrun him

Hi Knicnax, No need for me to elaborate about problematic medical system and services in our country as we are both aware of it... The waiver freed the hospital from any liabilities but that's the only way my friend thought as the best way to do--for him to go home, get a companion and be attended too. soooo badddddddd!!!! the case is already being discussed with a lawyer. God works in mysterious ways...i know justice will prevail in this case. My friend's cp was included in the things that were robbed. he only borrowed from the medical staff a cellphone and post on the facebook about his case. THanks friend for dropping by!

i read your discussion to my wife and she too was very angry on what happened. your friend was going to die but still no one cared and dared to help him. to the fact that he was already at the hospital. how can hospital staff be inconsiderate! what is a hospital for, if they can not attend with people who are in an emergency cases like this. we will light a candle for your friend for his speedy recovery. this is an example on how bad the system that our country have. any where you go is always like this, this is what we inherit from the countries leaders. humiliation and a rotten system.

Hi 7th, This incident with my friend also reminded me about the news of a pregnant woman who was denied 5 times to be attended to in the hospital. She’s bleeding and is 8 month pregnant. She’s on pre-mature labor. She was only accommodated when DOH USEC advised the hospital to entertain the patient. This is unacceptable and we really need to be proactive enough to seek hospital reforms. What if this happen to us? How are we going to manage this situation? Grrrrr!!! Thanks for your kind heart…for the candle light and the prayers!

Hi Dawn, The parents did and even my friend but they said it's their policy. My friend is recuperating fast and finally home from his confinement. While in the hospital there were already discussions with our common lawyer friend. i hope the case will pursue and will get positive response and the hospital be penalized for the damaged caused and putting my friend's life in serious danger!

Hi, msfrancisco9369. I am very sorry to hear about your friend being stabbed! The hospital should have responded more quickly to your friends plea! When the guard called the nearest hospital that is when it was very serious. I am so sorry that he was attacked. I hope that he will heal very quickly. It is a shame that the hospital did not get to him until around 2 a.m. I hope that, he will get the treatment that he needs. Don't worry yourself. I know that you are a great friend to him. And he knows that too. Take care.

Hi Winks, I felt depressed reading your post, and I felt angry at the hospital system our country has, particularly those government-run hospitals. Good thing your friend survived this horrible ordeal, he will live to tell his story that could change the whole system...hopefully.

That is really horrible. Why on earth did he have to leave the hospital, get in a cab to get his sister and then return to the hospital. I do not understand that? He should have been seen to straight away and definitely should not have been left alone by himself. Something needs to be done to raise awareness of the problems in that hospital and the medical system there. These things should not happen in this day and age! I hope that your friend can make a full recovery. I wish him well.

Hi Rawbill, It was really a horrible experience. Anyway, there's an on-going discussion about the case the my friend is serious in pursuing it. The hospital needs to look into their policy and they do something about what happened to my friend. They need to face consequences of their irresponsible action and their negligence.

I don't know if there is a way to press malpractice suits where you live, but if there is, that would certainly be the way that I would go about it because he could have just as easily had a much worse outcome than he did. He is certainly a very lucky man. It is wrong in my opinion that a hospital would put someone on the back burner because they are alone at the hospital. You see, here people are triaged according to their medical emergency and he would have been a top priority with those kinds of wounds.

Hi Dorann, It’s so frustrating learning this kind of response from a government hospital. I hope this will not happen to anybody in the future as my friend is serious enough in pursuing a case against the hospital. Discussion on legalities is on-going with our friend lawyer. I know this will result gain support and will give us positive results. Thanks Dorann!

Hi msfrancisco! I'm terribly sorry about your friend. To hear that such a thing could have come from the medical staff and the hospital I think it's high time they pull their socks up before more people become victims. What good does it do to a wounded to rightly seek treatment in a hospital to find it otherwise not accommodated for or negligently delayed. I wish your friend a speedy recovery!

Hi Tomi, THanks for the empathy. my friend is recuperating fast but is still in pain due to the deep stabbed wound he had near his lungs. we will not let this incident pass without letting the hospiptal know how negligent they are. A case will be filed.

Hi. I feel sad for what happened to your friend. I hope he recovers soon. What kind of ambulance and hospital is that? I am a member of ERU, we do ambulance service and we don't leave our patient unless the patient is turned into a doctor. We have papers for the doctor to sign before we leave the patient otherwise if they will not take the patient, will bring the patient to another hospital. That hospital should be reported to the DOH.

Hi Santos, Thanks for the sympathy. This is really unacceptable. He's trying his best to be mobile but he still has oxygen on until now. he's complaining about the pain caused by the stabbed near his lungs and heart. Lucky are the patients who will be unde your care as they will be treated promptyl and humanely.
