Sun glasses

Friends when summer rolls around, we try to avoid too much sun exposure. We use sun glasses, hats, umbrellas. I use sunglasses of a reputed brand. The sun glasses sold here in my city may cost anything from 50 rupees to 6000 rupees or more. They are not tested by government. We trust sunglass makers to label their products accurately. But they may not be doing their job. And that means you could face serious eye trouble in just a few years. Here are few simple tips to help you take care of your precious sight. Most of the glasses are marked with the “CE” logo. The logo indicates these glasses meet standard for blocking UV light. But if not, , you could be exposing your eyes’ delicate tissues to far more UV light than is safe. And that could result in permanent damage. So, please follow these simple guidelines to be sure your sunglasses are doing their job. Just stay away from cheap sunglasses. They’re more likely to fail UV protection requirements. It is advisable to get your sunglasses from your eye doctor or optician. In some comparisons, these were the least likely to be faulty. Wear wrap-around sunglasses. UV light can “leak” in from the side. Blocking this “leakage” is especially important if you spend a lot of time outdoors. Look for glasses that provide 99% - 100% of both UVA and UVB light. Some studies suggest that blocking blue light is also important. If you have any problems with color vision, be careful about the tint of your lenses – especially when driving. Reddish, yellow and green-tinted lenses can make it more difficult for you to see traffic lights. Be sure you’re getting plenty of antioxidants – especially vitamins C and E, and zinc. These antioxidants support eye health by mopping up the free radicals UV exposure causes. Finally, when you’re shopping for sunglasses, here are three things you don’t need: Darker lenses. Because eve clear lenses can be treated to block UV light, and glasses that are too dark can interfere with driving. Polarized lenses. No doubt polarization cuts glare, which can help with clarity. But polarization doesn’t block UV light. UV coating. This add-on about ultra violet radiations is often advertised for “extra protection” is pointless. If your sunglasses already meet the “UV400” standard, coating will only add cost. Hope my suggestions you find useful, do you use sunglasses? Do you take in to consideration, the points I said here. Please comment on this too. Professor

The Sun always bright here all the year but I never wearing sunglass because I don't feel its necessary. I think my eyes is already adapted to the sun because I been lived with it the whole my life. I think sometimes not proper sunglass will be more danger than sun ray its self.

I have to admit that I've probably already pretty much torn up my eyes in terms of my exposure to UV light because growing up I spent a lot of time in the swimming pool (and I honestly still do today) but I never wore anything to protect my eyes during those long hours in the swimming pool as a child. These days, I'm a lot smarter and I will try to wear sunglasses while I am in the pool with my children. Thank you very much for this advice.

We are delighted by your tips and wonderful discussion regarding wearing sun glasses. This is timely here in the UAE, we feel the summer so really hot, the range of temperature is about 45 to 48 degrees Celsius, blistering right? What about in India, how do you feel the summer there? I am using RayBan brand and it meets the standard. It costs 500 UAE dirhams (6,000 rupees more or less), I enjoyed its capacity on protecting my eyes for two years now. I keep myself on wearing it this summer so my eyes would be protected too. Thank you for commenting here.

I dont even trust when see the store sell a quality sun glasses with cheap price. Because it must be imitation and the quality is so bad. Probably that we need is more protection, but when we use the imitation one we can olny get the style but not the useful things. Thanks for your information about sun glass.. its so helpfull. :)

hi professor I have read a lot lately about the harm from the sun' but I do not wear sunglasses as I have to wear glasses to see so I would need some sort of clip ons and any way I do not spend a lot of time outdooors. my son swears by his and keeps them with him at' all times but he is outside more than myself.I am only outside to keep appointments so wonder if any extra eye protection is really needed for me.

I love sunglasses and I won't miss a chance to use a sunglass. I have sunglasses of various brands and various shades. I am crazy aboug buying sunglasses as I am addicted to buying handbags and cute purses. I just like to buy them even if I don't use it frequently. I have a sunglass which I bought six months ago, but never used it. Here, summmer is only for 3 months and it is the time I can use sunglassses.

Thank you, professor! Though I'm not a sunglass user, I like to read the nice knowledge tips here. I'm wondering now... if you wear a pair of wrap-around sunglasses to avoid the leakage of ultraviolet ray in such a hot summer like this year, won't you feel hot and stuffy in your eyes?

Most of the glases sold are not UV tested unless you buy them from a spectacle shop. I am currently in the UAE and the temperature here is 52 degress...imagine going out without sun glasses... We need to use sunglasses and sun screen cream...Its going to be the Ramdan season from 15th August. imagine...you are not supposed to drink water on the streets and also the shops will be closed. imagine this is happening in 52 degree temperature...
