Did teachers ever have habits when they lectured that annoyed you?

There was one teacher that I had that kept clicking a pen as he was talking. That used to drive me insane. I heard that clicking noise in my sleep every night after I had a class. Talk about something that was extremely frustrating. Did you have any teachers that had annoying habits? Looking forward to reading your responses.

I had a college professor once that had a habit of standing on top of his desk. Of course I sit in front, so I end up straining my neck just to look up to him. His course, which was history I think, is forgetable, but his habit wasn't. Not sure why he had to do it. Maybe he had ambitions of being in front of big audiences, and our class was in some small way was a jump off point for him.

Maybe he felt like he had to look down at everyone. Of course, there were a lot of teachers who stood on these podiums on a riser to give their lecture. At least in the back row, you could kind of see them but if you were right in front of them, you kind of had to lean back. Quite annoying to say the least. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I had a teacher that would always say "mkay?" after talking, just like Mr. Mackey does on the cartoon South Park. And I don't really remember what it was, but one of my teachers told us about a prof that would do say something very unique or do something unique, and this prof did it so much that the students would actually count down how many times the prof did it. Oh yeah, I remember a substitute teacher that would always say "shhh" pretty much once a minute, even when she was lecturing and nobody was talking. They didn't really annoy me though, they kind of amused me.

Yeah, teachers tend to have certain things that they say over and over again. Its almost like its preprogrammed into them. Sometimes it was amusing, some days it was annoying. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I had a University professor for Gothic Literature who *so* did not get how to engage his students. He’d start the class by barking that there was to be no talking or coughing and then proceeded to read out a pre-written lecture, sat at a desk, in a low, dull, monotonous drone. I really didn’t feel like I learned much of anything and everyone else seemed to agree.

Yes, I had a couple of teachers like that. Really, you could just put a tape recorder in front of the class and how many people would really know the difference. In fact, some schools could just save money by putting a prerecorded lecture in front of the class. Of course, there is the matter of actually enforcing the behavior of the students, so yeah. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

Or even better, just print out the lecture in a hand out and all the students can stay in bed an extra hour! I would have liked that when I was a student.

Yes that would work well as well. That's the thing I like now that I am taking online courses. They do have the live lectures that you can attend in the online virtual classroom over audio conferencing, but if you don't, the lecture notes pretty much cover it. Still when I realize the hours of life I could have saved, I cry. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I had a lecturer that didn't seem sure of her material. She kept pausing to go "um... uh...". Not sure if that can be called a bad habit rather than just bad teaching, but I did hate that class. Couldn't pay attention with all those pauses.

I hate it when people say "Um" a lot. There is just something about that which bugs me. I did not have any teachers like that, but I can just imagine if I had and the pain that would cause me. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

It annoys me if teachers dont hold classes. There are teachers in some universities who just do unnecessary things in their classroom just to kill the time. There's on teacher I know who doesnt have formal classes with her students. She spends 15 minutes arranging the students chairs, 15 minutes checking the attendance and for the rest of the time, let the students read the book one by one without explaining it. Now that's really annoying.

Yes, why do the students even need to show up? Its just a waste of their time. They would be more productive just staying home then attending a class like that. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I had a University professor who had one peculiar habit. He would use his right palm, bring close to nose and rub his nose in an upward direction giving the nose a shape of a pig's nose. We would count in his class how many times he would do that and believe me, he would rub for more than 150 times.

That sounds rather distracting. That's a lot of times to do something like that. That would be one of those times where I would avoid actually looking at the professor, but only listen to him. Thank you for your response. It is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.

I had a professor who would always add the word "no" to every end of a sentence.I would always look at my classmate and we would compare how many "nos" we got.

Some of those things can be like a game to pass the time. Its almost like a running gag from a television show in many ways. Thank you for your response, it is much appreciated and it contributed to the topic well. Have a nice day and thanks.
