I had a lovely crusty roll for my lunch filled with cream cheese, ham and cucumber the only trouble is that the cucumber is now repeating on me, ooops excuse me My mum always insists that I cut the green part off the cucumber when making her a sandwich for her when she visits and she says this won't happen if you do. She says that green peppers repeat on her and I find that h ard boiled eggs do with me. Does anybody know what causes this? Does anyone know how to avoid this? What sort of foods repeat on you?

Hi Humbug25, The sandwich was delicious I am sure, but now you have to pay the price for the fillings such as the cucumbers and the cheese. The heartburn is said to be because the food is in the digestive tract along with air that you have swallowed. Most heartburn, belching and flatulence come from a variety of foods such as sugars, carbohydrates, like beans, bread, fruits. Even milk can cause discomfort in bloating, and belching. Believe it or not, fats and proteins don't cause very much intestinal problems after they are eaten. Changing your diet is one sure way to help with this problem, but if you are not willing to do that, and most of us aren't, there are some digestive enzymes that you can buy and take. They will help break up the carbohydrates and other foods that is cause your discomfort.

Cucumber has this nature, I mean, it is hard to digest it. Not everybody can digest easily. When I eat cucumbers it makes me feel as if I have eaten stones. So I avoid it as much as I can. Drink something to make it easy for you to have it down to your digestive system, something like Coca-Cola probably?

Hi there ehsanji It is shame that we have to avoid foods that we do like to eat and that are in fact good for us like cucumber. Thanks for your response

hi humbug2 sorry to hear that as that sandwich sounds delicious. Cucumbers will not make you burp if you peel off the dark green skin. Cabbage does it to me and also broccili , any cruciferous veggie, so I just mix a little baking soda in a little water ,drink it and my burps are gone.beans will also do this so just keep some baking soda on hand, mix a half tablespoon with a half cup of water, d rink it andquit burping. simple and effective too.

So I guess you should just peel the cucumbers first then. I wonder if that is the problem with most vegetables. The part that makes us gassy is the skin I guess. Some foods that "bother" me are onions, bananas and some greasy foods. I know there is a product you can take before you eat foods that may repeat on you. It's called "Beano". My mom uses this constantly and says it really does help.

Hi there Shar19 I think you are right about it being the skin that causes the problem with some vegetables. At least your mum can still enjoy the foods she likes to eat if she takes 'beano' first. I wonder what the equivalent to Beano is in the UK? We must have something like that somewhere! Thanks for your response

Oh gosh. A lot. cucumber is one and also any kind of pastry and raw onions and I've always eaten a lot of raw onions all of my life. That's about it I think.

sweet potatoes and beans. it has sugars that we can not digest. Beans contain sugars that we humans cannot digest. When these sugars reach our intestines, the bacteria go wild, have a big feast, and make lots of gas!

Hello Humbug. I find cucumber does the same to me, it repeats on me for ages so I started to avoid it. I'll try cutting the skin off and see if that helps. I think the problem is caused by it being hard for us to digest. Other things that repeat on me are spicy foods such as chilli and spring onions also repeat on me.

Hi there AutumnGold I too find spring onions/salad onions repeat on me but as I love them it isn't a particularly unpleasant repeat unlike some other foods! haha Thanks for your response
