Are you more an optimist or a pessimist. An optimist is one with a positive outlook on life. A pessimist is a person who consistently nurtures a negative attitude and normally expects the worst of people and of situations. This outlook remains despite of facts or circumstances. I feel that generally I am more an optimist than a pessimist and believe there is a light at every tunnel end. It is just how long the tunnel is. And whether we live in hope - hope in anything.

Wow nice topic. Hm if you are referring to food i would always be a pessimist because i love eating all kinds of food and wish for everything to be there on my plate. But it you meant in general then i am an optimist because when you are being sad you would get advise from many people to cheer up or to be better. If you an optimist then life would be much better smooth sailing for me and i would always be happy and if possible keep others happy. Cheers!

Hi carpediem17, I am truly an optimistic person. I decided a long time ago that I would not waste my life worrying about things that I can't control. I do have negative things happen in my life, it would not be realistic to say that I have no worries. However, after my short bout with self pity, I get up, dust myself off, and shake off the negativity. Problems don't just disappear, some kind of action has to occur in order to get some kind of resolution. Meanwhile, your attitude about the situation, whether you are a pessimistic or optimistic person is important. You can make yourself sick with worry or you can do all you can about it and then just leave it along. I'm just optimistic enough to believe that things will workout the way they are suppose to

I can say I'm a little bit pessimist but most of a time I'm an optimist. I'm the type of who never gives up no matter how many times I failed. Life is full of ups and downs and it's completely normal if we feel disappointed sometimes.

I like to have a positive outlook on life. There is greater reward in hope than in despair. I have to see the cup as half full. half empty would be a disappointment.

Optimist to the core. I know I have been given a very fair hand and though the last few years my tunnel has been longer than ever I finally see the light and realize all the right, great things I could be doing in the world. Pessimists typically drive me crazy and I cant spent too much time with them.

yup, really can't hang around the pessimist too much. Really depresses one.

You are what you think. If you think positive thoughts, then you will have a positive life. If you are always thinking that bad things are going to happen to you, then bad things WILL happen to you. It's natural to be depressed sometimes but if during your sadness you realise that everything will get better, then you are mentally a healthier person. Personally, I am an optimist, even though my life hasn't been perfect (who's has?). I count my blessings - a good job, a nice family, a roof over my head etc - and realise that I have much to be grateful for.

thanks louisefrank for your sharing. Indeed counting one's blessings encourage a spirit of gratitude and in that sense, be thankful for what we have. We should therefore be optismistic in our outlook to encourage positive actions.

I was a pessimist trying to become an opitimist back then and now I have evolved and become an optimistic creature. I try to always see the good in any situation though sometimes negativity sets in, then I need reminders from friends, books, music, inspirational quotes to get me out of there. It is good to have hope in life and to believe in the positive things that life can bring. I like to live my life in smiles everyday come what may.

hi bmp, thanks for your thoughts on this. Don't we all tear our hair when we meet someone who is downright pessimistic generally. A happy spirit do wonders.

I, myself, get called a pessimist quite often by my lady. I just seem to look at the worst-case scenario in any situation. But, you see, the way I look at it - If you expect the worst, you won't be disappointed, only pleasantly surprised if things go another way. see?
• Singapore

ummm .. are you cynical rather than a pessimist then. But I do see your rationale for thinking the worst case scenario but that doesn't necessarily make you a pessimist I think.

I can say I'm an optimist. I've been through a lot in life already but I never gave up. I always see the silverlining, the light at the end of the tunnel or the rainbow after the rain. =) But we are just human, so we go through a phase where we feel so down and alone. What matters most is that you know how to pick yourself up and move on.

hi juryse, well said. Spoken like a true warrior of life. I think the important thing is not to dwell too long on bad episodes but learn from the mistakes and how to handle the next time.

hi captinjack, life is not so bad. Take heart and try to practise optimism as a way of life. Disappointment is part and parcel of life. We should learn to recover faster from it.

We all have the power to choose what we deem important. I choose the positive, the happy, the joy, the love, the kindness. The rest isn't really important. If I get a tough problem, I relax and work it out. As I look into the past, all those pesky problems all worked out somehow. THey will again. THey always do.

thanks bird123 for sharing. Yes, being happy or positive can be a choice. Just train yourself to think positively .... Also, don't let past problems or baggage to weigh you down for too long.

Most of the time im an optimist. I tend to think things positively and try to see the brighter side of things. For me God has plans for everyone and for everything. It may be negative or has a bad effect on you but you will see a rainbow after every rain :)

thanks gaiza for your comments. In fact, sometimes the current situation may not be good or even bad for you. But who knows, in the longer run, it situation was the most ideal one.

Depends on the situation, I am trying to look at all problems and life itself in a positive way since I have no other choice but to have hope that "If there's a will, there is always a way"..So, I am trying to find a way to get away from difficult situations. I always thank God as well for keeping up with me.

hi charmed, I like your rationalisation and thinking. Life is a long long journey, it is better to stay optimistic in every situation as long as we do whatever that we can in our control. The rest we have to leave it to God.

I am optimist most of the time because once we were born in this earth so we need to have good to be valuable and keep our self happy and comfortable.I am conscious about religion and I am always believing the the story that were mansion and the incident that had happened in the past.I always think that if I do good than only good thing will lead my life to be good and interesting .If I think that I need to be a respectful than I need to be valuable and understandable to every one.
