How To Get Over a Summer Cold With NO Meds?!

So.... it is 2 days before my 23rd birthday and I am super pissed off that my older cousin passed on her summer cold to me, my younger sister, my cousin's daughter and my daughter. I have been taking Bayer aspirin, but I know that's not much help because it's not for colds.. but that's all I have right now. I actually gave all of my cold medicine to my cousin when she was sick last week. I am really pissed off about it... this will probably be the worst birthday ever. I have been asleep most of the day... and now my daughter is really getting on my nerves because she's doing a million and 1 things and I have to keep hopping up while I'm sick. This really sucks.

One thing that I can say without a doubt is that a mommy is not allowed to get sick. There hasn't been a time since my oldest was born seven and a half years ago that I've been allowed to be sick in peace. However, when it comes to colds, I've also found that even when you take medicines that are supposed to relieve the symptoms of a cold, they don't really help you to get over a cold quicker. Instead, try to make sure that you are drinking plenty of water and juice and it will help to flush it out of your system quicker.

You're soo right about that. Especially if the mom AND child are sick.. that's a nightmare. Thankfully, I have been feeling much better and was able to enjoy my birthday yesterday! I am going to celebrate more this weekend! Thanks for your concern!!

Drink lots and lots of liquids. If you have vitamin C, take 2-3 times a day. Eat fruits high in vitamin C. Avoid sweets which can thicken mucous. Hope you get well soon and advance happy birthday!

Thanks for the birthday wishes!! I have been drinking lots and lots of fluids and even though my cold has checked up drastically. I still have a stuffed nose a night, coughing sporadically and sneezing from time to time. I have gotten some liquid Tylenol Cold since then but since it's so disgusting lol I don't even really take it!! Thanks for the advice!!

I read a few sources that have the opinion that it is best to tough it out without medications. It strengthens your immune system, for example. Of course if the symptoms aresevere that is easier said than done. Sleep is the best "cure" if you can manage it.

wow 2 day before your birthday with a cold. thats really too bad. but try taking some vitamin C. Either is vitamins w/ vitamin C in it, oranges, orange juice any thing of that sort. I heard vitamin C heals a cold really fast! So eat or drink a lot of it! But good luck hopefully that helps and you'll feel better by your birthday. Oh and happy early birthday!
