With new gadgets coming out int the market such as smartphones, tablets, internet ready LED TV and many more that are just as capable as with personal computers, are we seeing the end of computers as we know it today?

Every gadget has its own proper function. From the forgoing, it does look like PCs are going extinct but i think that some thing make PC a PC which is distinct from a smartphone or an internet ready LED TV. Tablets are even tolerable. Consider a programmer, surely, a smartphone or those sort of miniaturized computerized gadget will not do what a PC will do. Every one has its proper function and insofar as the proper function of a gadget is relevant, the gadget still has a life span. so are PCs

I think more people are turning to laptops instead of desktops. This is due to the portablity of a laptop. Plus most hotels these days have a wifi connection so you can easuly connect to the internet. I plan to get a laptop in the future and sell my desktop. It takes up less space and easy to travel with.

Personal computer will never come to an end. Smartphones, laptops, netbooks all are for portable use. Use of personal computers is different, i do many things daily on my personal computer including downloads without shutting it down for many hours or even couple of days. And it doesnt affect my pc at all, if the same thing i do in laptops or tablets then they will be heated as hell and also there performance will degrade. Everything is used for special purpose and no other gadget has evolved in the market which can replace personal computer. As long as hardcore computer users are existing personal computers will be present for sure.......

I can see PC's either evolving into new forms or going the way of the Dodo, but it'll be a while yet before we quit using keyboards..I see the ability to speed type as an accomplishment over the limitations of the querty keyboard, itself an invention to prevent typists on the early mechanical typewriters from jamming the mechanisms! It's time we moved on to something more intuitive...

I sort of hope so. I hate having to be at the desk all the time to use the old PC!

I think is not because in order to repair (specially the software problem)all the gadgets you are spoken you have to use a computer or probably a desktop.

There may be the iPad, iPhone which can surf the net, but the PCs which was part of the world will still be part of the world. It will never die away.

absolutely not those gadgets might be able to do some of what a pc can do but that is just the tip of the iceberg.

I doubt that they'll ever go extinct. As long as people need a keyboard to get any real amount of work done, they'll always be a necessity. I can't imagine trying to write a book or an article by pecking at one letter at a time on some tiny gadget. The same applies to screen space. No phone or tablet will ever provide enough screen space, especially if you're a multi-tasker and usually have more than one window open.

Not anytime soon. There are still things that are done using a PC than gadgets like smartphones. Examples include playing 3D games, or doing programming, etc.
