Are you pessimistic or optimistic? Do you consider either to be a realist? I think I tend to be more pessimistic but I am open to optimism.

I think a lot of people who are considered pessimistic are just Realistic. Just because they don't sugar coat everything they're a pessimist? I don't think so. I'm the same as you.. more pessimistic. I am open to optimism but I'm a realistic person, so I'm not going to be all happy-go-lucky about a bad situation.

Though I have my bad days, I'm more on the optimistic side. I'm always hoping and waiting for better things to come. My faith in God gives me that optimistic outlook. Badness and suffering is temporary. One of these days God's kingdom will come and rescue righteous people and remove wickedness from the earth. Then life will be so pleasant and enjoyable as all righteous mankind cooperates to make the world a better place for all.

Thanks for you comment. But wouldn't life be pleasant already for optimistic people?

That is true but we still have challenges that optimism cannot solve. We need help from a higher source.

I've always been a pessimist. I find that it is easier to deal with things if you are a pessimist. To not expect the best from people, to expect the worse in circumstances. That way, if anything good does happen, you'd be pleasantly surprised. I know it's not healthy, but it's hard to be expecting, and just get crushed.

I think it's good to be optimistic but not so optimistic that your views become mere wishful thinking. It has to be grounded to what's realistic. I prefer being practical and strategic. Call me an "optimalist" if you will! XD

I consider myself as a very optimistic person :) I always try to look at the brighter side of life no matter what situation I am in. I believe that if things will go right, it will go right. so if things go wrong then I have no control in it but I've done my part to make things right ;)

I'll only become optimistic if people for once start to think for themselves instead of being brain washed by stuff that has been written 1000's of years ago. Only then will I be hopeful.

That sounds like a good reason. I wish I can have a real conversation with people with opinions too. Your avatar looks optimistic though, ahah.

Hello, I think I am generally optimistic. But this frame of mind is totally dependent on my expectations from the world. If I can't get what I expect and if this happens repeatedly, then I wonder if I will stay optimistic for long. Being optimistic or a pessimistic entirely rests on the personality. If you expect too much or if you interpret things in wrong way, you are bound to be pessimistic. On the other hand, when good things start happening in your life, or you change your attitude overnight from a negative to a positive one, there is a fair chance that you may become an optimist. Thanks. God bless you.

That's so true. I expect so much in life and myself, I am a perfectionist.

I am very much optimistic. Do you know the difference between optimist and pessimist. When half full of glass of water is shown the optimist says it is half full while the pessimist says it is half empty. When optimistic person says everything is good for us the pessimist says everything is bad for us.Somehow I feel that optimistic people are happier than the pessimists.Whom do you prefer?

I don't mind either, actually as long as you're honest and real. If you're house is falling apart and you still can keep a smile on your face, I will be irritated because if that happened to me, I would be crying. But if I know you have always been through worse and are just still happy that you are alive, I will understand that too. But, I won't be optimistic just because everyone else 'prefers' that. I'll always just be me.

What I have learned throughout my life, is that everyone at one point, is a pessimist or an optimistic. But to say which one I am. I would have to say an optimistic. There is nothing like being an optimistic. Being a optimistic I find gives you better opportunity for happiness and enjoying what good things awaits out there in life.

That's true, in every episode in life you can switch to either. I feel fake when I'm optimistic so that's my only reason why I say I'm more of a pessimist. But if you can be really happy then that is great for you.
