Have you ever pawned something?

It could any piece of jewelry, gadgets, furnitures, clothes just to get by or trying to make ends meet? I did have my share of experience before when I was struggling with my tuition in college. I pawned the necklace my mom gave me and the unfortunate thing was I never got it back because I failed to get it on the deadline. It was auctioned an was sold fast. I regret it actually and I felt guilty all the time because it was a hard earned gift from my mom. And I never told her. How about you guys, did you also have your share of experience that you pawn your valuables whenever you ran out of cash? Good gloomy day, mylotters!

Hi, gjax. Are you and that friend still speaking? Because I want you to trust me on one thing, she will have her days of regret also for taking that ring from you. It was hard earned and a present to yourself. Sorry for reminding you. LOL. Not my intention at all. Hope you're okay now.

I have pawned so many times if I ran out of money. I think It's better to do that rather than stealing money from others. I have some that I also failed to get because I dont have money yet.

Yes i think that a pawn shop is a great place to get some quick cash in a case where you really need money for bills or food.I do think that pawn shops should be used dillengly and only when needed. If you are in a habit of always selling there your are not getting the most money you could for your used goods. If you want to get the most for your used goods you should use kiji or use e bay as they will give you 2 or even 3 times the amount you will get at a pawn shop.

That must have been terrible. I've never pawned anything. I try not to run out of cash by having a little bit put by all the time. I've never been one to not pay my bills or my rent, so I'm organised with my money. Accidents happen though and we can be caught unprepared and end up in trouble.

Hi, Miss Tickle. Yeah, pawning some of your valuable things seems to be the easiest instead of borrowing money from a friend or from the bank.

I had to pawn a piano keyboard to get a little bit of money for rent one time. I don't ever want to pawn something again. I didn't go to get it back because it didn't even give me enough money for rent if I remember. I wish I hadn't, but I never used it anyway.

You did the right thing. And since it was never been used, by the time you pawned it, maybe someone else right now is putting a good use for your keyboard. =)

Yes I would like to think that someone who really wanted a keyboard but couldn't afford it has it now. It was a beautiful thing. Maybe I will get another one one day and become serious about learning how to play it.

I have never pawned anything. I have never even been inside a pawn shop. There are quite a few in the area where I live though. I have just never thought of doing it. I feel like they may not give me the proper amount of money for whatever I may be pawning. I don't know why I have this impression. It's probably a result of too much television! Sometimes we have to do things we don't want to do in order to survive. I'm sorry you had to pawn your mom's necklace. I'm sure she would understand though.

I haven't pawned anything in my 22 years of existence simply because I never had anything valuable (in monetary terms). WHen I was in college, my allowance was never enough, my family was then having a difficult time. So, instead of relying too much on my parents, I looked for a part time job instead. It was through this that I was able to survive my college years. :)

Hi, nica. Well, good for you to look for a job. During my time, I wasn't fortunate to have or to be able to looked for a part time job since most of my time is really occupied. But good for you to be able to get a job to help you pay your tuition.

Yeah, it was such a blessing. I worked part time and I had so much fun as well.. I was an English teacher to Koreans then. I learned so much from them.. ^_^

Yes, I have pawned my television, Walkman, stereo, and my comic books for money for college. It was the hardest thing that I ever had to do because a lot of that stuff was valuable to me. I felt guilty for doing it at first, but I learned to get over it. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do to survive.

True, rogue. And even though you have some good relationship with your things, sentimental values or hard earned, you can always let go just to be able to provide financial for our needs like food or the need to pay some bills and school fees. Whoever invented the pawnshop must be a good person.

Hi, totallyundecided. Yes. I have pawned many things. I have pawned jewelry. I have even pawned a ring that I have found in my trailer. It was in my closet. It had a diamond in it. I got $15.00 back from this ring. I did not know that I would have at least gotten this much back on it. My husband has pawned many tools that him and his father used to work with. He used this money to buy us something to eat and to put gas in the car with. We was having a very rough time then. The pawn shop has been a blessing to us! Oh and I forgot to mention that I pawned, a necklace that my ex boyfriend gave to me. When he did not show up for my son's 2nd Birthday, I got so mad at him. And to break free and loose all of ties that I had with him, I decided to get rid of anything that would remind me of him. So, I pawned his necklace at the pawn shop. It had his initials, J on it. I did not need this necklace anymore.

That's okay, cream. We can always let go of the things which are not important anymore. Pawnshop really is the easiest and the most convenient way to loan some money for emergency needs.

I must say that I admire your honesty, first and foremost. Secondly, I have never pawned anything of mine as I value what I have. I often think what happened to my hi-fi equipment (amongst other things) that people just came into Mum's house, where I lived at that time, to pinch. Was it sold on at hideous Cash Converters? We shall never know. About 6 months ago I lost my wedding ring and was devastated. Last week, it turned up unexpectedly in the house and I cannot begin to tell you how happy I was (and still am) at this important piece of jewellery turning up like it did. Granted, it's not worth an awful lot but to me it's priceless and I don't plan on parting with it anytime soon...although I do realise that not everyone feels so attached to their jewellery like I do. Everyone is different.

Hi, Janey. Thanks for sharing your story. I, too, had my case where I have to give up something but I often choose the things that doesn't have sentimental value (that's how mushy I am - LOL). Whoever help you find the ring must be an angel. I think she knows how genuinely you felt for that ring. I wish you well, my friend. Thanks for giving me your response here in this discussion. Cheers to you!

Well yes I have pawned small things such as tv's and video games systems.I do not sell anything that is of great value as a pawn shop only give a quarter of the value of the item.Sometimes they will give less if they feel the item will not sell quickly.I once sold a nintendo ds system and several games and came back a few days later to see what amount they sold them for and sure enough it was around a quarter of what they gave me.They are in business to make money and they need to pay for rent and salaries and in order to do so they must give only a part of the items value.

And their interest is a little high. Most pawnshops here have the latest gadgets on sale. Last time I checked, there was an ipod touch worth $100. lol. And some laptops, too.

I have recently been thinking about this. I keep saying I am not at that point yet and I hope I will not have to do this. However I do believe that things are not important than the peace of mine of being able to pay your bills, so if it comes down to it, I might wind up doing exactly what you did.

It's one of the easiest resources/loan we can get whenever we are in the middle of something important that requires more financial aid.

I've pawned my cellphone twice already but I always get it back. Those were the days when I was splurging myself to luxury that I forgot to pay my bills and it made me almost bankrupt. Luckily, I was able to get back up on my feet and pawning my phone was one of the things that helped me get back up.

We all go through that phase xte. But I am happy that you are able to get back. Good luck to you! =)

I did it most of the time especially if i need money for many things at home and immediate needs like tuition fee for market, bills and many more associated with money matters. There is one time that mt daughter has sick and i need to buy meds for her but i dont have enough money then I decided to pawned all important things just to provide my daughter's medicines. Other pawned things sometimes doesn't recovered. Even i was guilty I tried not to sad because i said it was just a thing and if I had money I can buy a new one or another. To pawned is not bad it can help in emergency cases..

I've pawned stuff before, although never at a pawn shop. I sell my used (brand name) clothes to a local consignment shop for some extra dough (I actually make a profit off of it, too!) and I also will sell used books/DVDs from time to time - usually just when I'm short on cash and need to survive until the next paycheck rolls in. I never ever really got much for books or DVDs though - but I'll probably continue with the clothes. Like you, I have tuition to pay for!! I don't think I would sell anything that I truly value though, like a sentimental gift. I would probably just stick with stuff that I have lying around the house - and clothes that I don't wear anymore.

Hi, maezee. I remember before that I also have to sell some of my book collections (sweet valley, fear street, Love stories and een mills and boons) just to get some money. But I do choose the stories that I don't like. My favorites are still with me. LOL. As for the DVDs, most thrift shops doesnt accept in the fear that it might be pirated though they can see the seal but still they don't accept. For clothes, I also sell them. The ones I hardly used. I like that we have something in common for resourcefulness. =) Cheers to us!

My ex and I had a nasty break up, what with him cheating on me. I need money to repair my car, and he had given me some nice jewelry. I tried selling it on craigslist first, thinking that I would get a little more for it, but did not get any hits for over a week. I pawned the jewelry for just about $300. That just about covered my deductible on the car repairs. I do not regret it.

You made me laugh asyria. But I like your strategy. A good way to get revenge from your ex by pawning the jewelry he gave. And besides, it's not that you used for a bad cause. You used it to repair your car which is a necessity. go, Girl! =)
