I am really starting to love the Australian accent. I've been watching some shows with Australian actors which has made me start liking the accent, and recently hubby got a new co-worker who is Australian. From what he says, the Australian accent is the easiest to lose after living elsewhere for awhile.. hubby says he notices the guy speaking without an accent a lot. The guy is married to an American woman, and they have a son, and the son can turn his Australian accent on and off whenever he wants. Sometimes when hubby tells me about a conversation he's had with this guy, he'll speak the other guys parts in that Australian accent.. I think it's really cute. Is there an accent you really like to hear?

My favourite accent is French. It is rich in elongated vowels and smooth on the tongue when spoken, and so often sounds gentle and reserved (I guess I have watched too many movies set in France). In comparison, Australian accent often has this upward inflexion at the end of every sentence which makes it sound like they are asking a question. I must admit that I am not fond of it. My least favourite accent is male-spoken Greek, because it is very rough, macho and aggresively toned, and this doesn't do the beautiful language any justice.

Interesting views. I don't believe I've ever heard anyone speak in Greek.. but even if I did I wouldn't recognize it.

That "Australian" accent sounds like a typical Queensland born-&-bred accent. Most Australians do not speak like that. You should count yourself lucky to hear it; fewer than four million people on the planet can speak like that.

I don't know any Brits that I actually speak to.. and the ones on TV usually speak clearly enough to understand.

I don't know about wanting to hear a specific accent. But I've noticed if I have extended conversations with someone with an accent I have been known to pick it up for a day or two myself. Quite strange if you ask me!

That's not really an accent to you then, is it? Since you speak the same as they do. You only notice an accent when people speak differently.

I really love the British or English accent. Whenever I hear people who speak with this accent, I imagine royal people like the Queen and Prince are the ones talking. I don't know if its me or what but I really do love their accent!

I reall enjoy an Irish accent. I could pretty much listen to a person talk all day if they have one.

Yup, it is really very interesting to hear different accents. It is I would say quite amazing. Australian accent is quite unique too. One accent here in North America which is pretty unique like Australian accent is Tennessee accent, the State of Tennessee. It is a southern accent, but still sounds very much different in my ears from other southern accents.

i think it's hard to understand the australian accent.probably because my ears are not used or trained to hearing and understanding it. maybe if i expose myself to the accent more, it'll be easier on my ears and understanding. anyway i think american english is the easiest to understand. but i think the chinese english is really funny and i like trying to decipher it, like a challenge. lol. i think british accent is really cute.

I guess it depends on how much exposure they've had to American English. I know if I went to England I wouldn't be able to understand anything they say, even though they're speaking the same language as me.. because their accent is so thick it doesn't sound like American English. I guess the same could be true for the Australians.. but the only Australian I've ever heard was easily understandable.

Yes, it is very true. I like Korean accent very much. It is really fascinating just to listen the way they speak. There are people who can speak English with different accent like British, American, Australia when they converse with one. It seems like they have this special switch that can just tune to the required accent...

When you spend a lot of time listening to one kind of talk.. you tend to pick it up a bit yourself. When I spent a week in Canada I came home with a Canadian accent. It was sort of funny.

I'd like a British accent. It sounds so classic. Next would be a Spanish accent. For me it sound sexy. I think the sexiest language is French but (no offense to French mylotters) I dont like it when they speak English with a French accent.

Those are all nice. I don't speak any other language than English.. so I don't like if the accent is too strong that I can't understand what they're saying. I haven't met too many French people.. but I'd think their English would sound too nasal-ish.

The American accent. I lived in Malaysia for a few years and developed a Malaysian accent and I even used their slang (which was saying '-lah' at the end of certain sentences). It was really funny when I got back to Australia but within a few days my Australian accent came back - not that I have a very strong Australian accent to start with - don't know why but I never really had a strong Australian accent, people always told me my accent was sort of a mix between American and Australian. Weird since I have never been to America... I find the Canadian accent funny and amusing. =)
