Getting dried out!

Well yes...I live in Southern Minnesota and we had a ton of rain last Wed/ thursday...I don't know what our totals were...but our lake in the center of town was a foot above normal. Now I am drying out!! Had some water in my basement of course! I hardly get water down there but it came down in buckets! Tonight I can see progress in the drying sector! I don't have carpet or anything but my washer and dryer down there so that's a good thing! Two little towns had to totally evacuate their small cities! Have you ever been in a flood or heavy rains that hurt either you or your property?

Oh no, Jill, does this happen often? Where we live, though we live on a lake, as long as the dam holds, we are fine, even when we get a lot of rain, our home doesn't flood. Now if the dam broke, we would probably have to evacuate, and I hope that never happens...

Only when the water table gets this high. We had so much rain this summer we can't take any more...someone told me that this is the first time in a long time that they have seen the grass this green in Sept.

You know, we had a pretty wet summer as well, because I noticed I didn't have to water my plants as much as I did in past years..But not even to get brown grass now...lol

Am glad you didn't have any damage. Years ago our house would leak under the back door and get into the house about 2 feet. We had our house insulated and sided and it never happened again. I don't see what that has to do with it since the water came in the house from under the door. I use to have to gather mega towels and take them downstairs to sop up the mess before it ruined the floor. It happened each time it rained.

Oh good. You might need the furnace sooner than usual this year. Had to turn ours on last night. Was in the 40's here this morning.

It's a pain. But I got most of it dried up before they came today to put in the new furnace!

My mom grew up in the Tulsa area, and they used to have SO many floods! There was one in particular that was pretty bad, and the water got close enough to go into the garage and right up close to the front step of their house. They were forced to evacuate, so when they came back home, they were happy to see their house was okay. But the bad thing was, there were snakes everywhere! The area alone, although a perfectly developed suburb, was backed up by a creek and a lot of woodland. My grandfather (and this was before I was born), one day for no reason he could think of at the time (but must have surely been God's prodding), turned his shoe upside down one morning before slipping it on his foot. Out popped a baby cotton mouth. My grandma is deathly afraid of snakes, so she was freaking out for weeks after that.

Wow Jill, glad to hear everything is ok where you live right now. And I'm glad the rain has stopped for the moment. You must have had alot of rain in order for that lake to fill up so high. Good thing on your part that there is no carpeting downstairs, what a mess that would have been. And I can see from some of your responses, some people have really had bad flooding. No, where I live there has never been a flood and I can't even imagine going through that. I'm happy to hear you're safe and sound.

Not floods but we get heavy rain here all the time although it seems worse at the moment. i dont think it's done anything but absolutelky bucket it down or storm here for the last few months constant dark and grey. We're used to rain as thats our weather 90% of the time which is why we sarcastically named the town "Sunny Bolton" but this August and September has been something else. I don't mind storms or rain but the constant damp agrivates my condition so it's meant as much time in doors satying warm as possible lol Never had to deal with damage on the house apart from a leaky roof and that was mainly down to wind. We rent so altho it was a pain in the bum it didnt break the bank.

It is a pain! But once it's cleaned up then it's not too bad.

Hiya Jill, How are you sorry to hear about those Floods. Over here in Spain there have been a few bad ones again. Also the same areas being hit again. I cannot complain at all as although we do have very heavy Rain there is enough good Drainage to support the overflow of Water.

rain? Actually, no rain damage at our last 2 houses, and this one is on top of a hill, so unless the whole hill collapses, I can't see rain being much of a problem...
