If you could live in any other period of history...

I like to fantasise about being an ancient warrior queen or a courtly lady in beautiful dress, but in reality, the persecution and oppression at every level and in every stage of history would have been appalling to me with my modern thinking. It has always been so insidious and taken for granted that I probably would have gotten myself into deep trouble for being "too forward" or above my station as a lowly woman! Would you even choose to go back if you could? Please give me some insight into your thinking! I think the best idea would be to turn up in the mid 70s and copyright the script for Star Wars.

Like you although i'm facinated by the whole victorian fantasy I think I too would have got into trouble with my forward thinking and inability to play the whole men rule game. I think the only period i really would like to have experienced would be the 50's/60's purely because i'm a big music fan and lots of people have told me that this was a golden era of new music and live bands and just had a whole different feel to it than how it is these days. I love so much of the music from that era that I think it would be an absolute dream to experience it 1st hand. I also wonder how i'd fit with the old fashioned rules and thinking of that time thout *eek* i dont like to be put into a box and doubt i'd be any less of a force to be reckoned with regardless of the era lol

I do love the corseted look, but doing it every day... I like my internal organs where they are! I adore 50s and 60s music too. I make my Dad retell me over and over again about the Isle of Wight festival in 1969 when he saw Jimmy Hendrix play! I'd give anything to have seen Janis Joplin singing too.

exactly everyone has bad days at the office so to speak and he's still able to say i watched him play i'd be well proud I'd be telling everyone. I've seen a huge number of bands and acts but I don't think anyone who I would class as absolute ledgends.

I'd choose to live during the Romantic times of Shakespeare. Then I'll shock these Artists with post-modern poetry, quote Frost, Cummings, Elliot and let them wonder what the hell was up with my metaphors... Lol

I'd like to live in the 1800's, when the US was still being settled, but things had calmed down somewhat. I would have made a good pioneer with a good husband by my side. I love to do the old fashioned things and wouldn't have minded doing without electricity or water (except for a trip to the outhouse on a cold winter's night).

There is a charm to the idea of a simpler life. The idea of a winter outhouse though. Eek!

I would love to live as upper middle-class or gentry in the Victorian Era. Being of that economical background, women were keepers of the home. They organized the household and social gatherings and such. Granted, that is still true today, but there was quite a lot more pride and beauty involved then. I simply adore the fashions and overall etiquette of the time. And on the women's rights subject, it was also the era that dawned the Suffragette movement so I would have fit right in with those such ladies of the time.

That appeals to me too. Better manners are very appealing.

If I was able to choose my favourite time period, I guess it would be the medieval times, perhaps back to the times of King Arthur when there was a belief in magic and mystery in the world. Who knows, perhaps their belief actually allowed magical forces to exist. Life may have been hard, but it was very simple then.. _Derek

Can you imagine? Walking in a Druid grove with real magic in the air? I'd like to see that.

It's so much fun to escape into a world like that for a little while! Keep writing!

Yes, a magical scene indeed. When I was in a writing workshop a few years ago, I chose to write about magic and mystery, usually centred around the idea of Merlin. It was so great when I was concentrating on the story, because I seemed to enter that world within.. But then back to everyday life in this century! _Derek

I would want to live in Judea during the time of Christ. I think it would be interesting to have first hand experience in all that happened in those days and see how I would personally respond, which "side" I would naturally fall on.

That must have been a hard time to live in. Frighteningly brutal. I often wonder what these legendary people really looked like. That would be amazing to see too.

i would have loved to be around during the first part of the 20th century because every day it seemed that something new was invented. it would have been fun to be a flapper in the 20s i think.

Shocking "boyish" haircuts and drinking and smoking. Scandalous! In the best possible way.

I'd like to live in 70's because this time where a very historical moment of our country started. The light in the every heart of Filipinos started burning to fight for their rights and express their thoughts. 'Till it's proven by the 1st EDSA power... and succeeded by many actions of democracy till in the present time.

I would love to live in modern age, because of the elegance of that period, the fashion, the beautiful words that were used between counts, and countess, the castles, the balls, with that nice kind of dancing.

But you'd be property as a woman. First belonging to your father, then your husband. It was tough, your role in life would be to bear children.
