You start a discussion and a person responding doesn't answer the discussion. And what they do respond with is pretty insulting to boot? I started a discussion and a guy answers (paraphrasing here) that "is woman's/mothers work and should be done when the husband is at work and not home. Forgive me, but in my opinion that doesn't come close to answering the discussion on potty training techniques.

Yes, I have had similar things happen and that is when I - 1) do not respond to that person's comments and 2) I make use of those 3 little boxes "+", "-", and "!" that are by everyone's post. That is one of the things they are for.

By no means am I making excuses for this person, but I bet he lives in a country in which the women is responsible for all the child rearing and that when the man comes home all of those teachings should not be in front of him. Trying to say that potty training should stop when he is home or atleast not in front of him. I'm not saying that's right just saying that not all cultures are the same. That would be my guess. I don't think that what he said doesn't answer the discussion just how it is in his culture. That's my 2 cents worth. Sorry if he was rude though.

That does happen when someone opens up two or more myLot tabs (how he is able to do it is beyond me. My machine slows down to turtle speed) and he thinks he is answering another discussion but puts it into yours instead. On the other hand, he could be a jerk. But what burns me is when I ask about a health problem, tell the mylotters that I am already exercising, watching my weight, and eating properly and someone writes on mylot as if I am not going what I am doing and gives me a lecture. Then there is the one who gives a whole lecture on what to eat, etc. when I might just want a help in just one little thing. Oh potty training, my son and daughter=in=law got a potty training video for my little granddaughter who is three. Of course, you could go into the potty dance when your toddler is successful. I heard it worked on Super Nanny.

You know.. I really hate getting advice from people here on Mylot. I mean sometimes it's good.. but the majority of Mylot users don't know me, so they don't know my situation.. so trying to give me advice is not a smart idea. I recently got into an argument with someone on here. I'd started a discussion about child's behavior and just about every response was "Take away their favorite toy" or some other form of punishment. Now I'd said in the discussion I didn't want to punish the kids because that makes them angry and makes the behavior worse. So when this one woman gave me that same suggestion, and I made the same response.. she got snippy with me and said that it's a FACT that punishment is the best option for changing a child's bad behavior. And she continued to argue with me non-stop about the whole thing. LOL, sometimes I just want to reach through the computer and slap people!

With children you do not know what works. Now with me, all my mother had to do was to tell me to go into my room and stay there, because I was a social person and I had to be where everyone was. That was the worse punishment I could have. Taking away a toy would not work for me. And spanking would have terrified me and stopped me from improving. It took me a while to get enough nerve to go by myself anywhere because of a spanking I got from my father when I was four and decided to go back to our old house in North Vancouver. As for potty training,I was surprised when my daughter-in=law had a hard time trying to potty train Katie, because with our sons it was no problem and I thought it was quite funny about the potty training dvd and the potty dance. I sure wished they had been along back in the 70s, as well as portable potty trainers - expandable and able to put in a bag so no one looks at you funny. I did like it when Suppernanny did the potty dance and did you see the one where she hung the soothies up in a tree to give to the tiny babies? What upsets me though is those cell phone users from India who write the cell phones are dangerous, can burn out your brain, etc. So why are they using them? Makes one think.

Rude as it is, his opinion is that potty training is "woman's work" and should be done before the man gets home from work. My question back to him is .... what does the little one do while potty training and daddy is home? Is daddy the one that tells the toddler "hold it till 8am?" What a jerk!

Yeah, that drives me crazy. You get all sorts on here. Not too long ago someone went through and answered a whole bunch of my discussions that I'd started months before that.. and all the discussions had the same answer. It was like some sort of weight loss tips... not answering the question, obviously not even reading the discussion.. made no sense at all.

i know what you mean. ive had very good discussions on here where most people were sympathetic and helpful, then some smart-a$$ would come along and make a mean remark to me. its just part of being on a forum such as this and you pretty much have to be a duck and let it roll off your back unless you are up for a dramatic fight on here so, hope you can just ignore some peoples ignorance my dear...hugs, bon

Fortunately the majority users here are on the good side, only a few bad beans in the bag. Like others said, let them be. Only read the posts that are relevant to the topic, the rest they say, is just noise. Give thme a negative for the pay, if they keep going the hard way, is just a matter of time before they got suspended.
