Airlines refused to compensate your loss once you lost your baggage

Okay, that is the problem we have to discuss here. Those airlines companies promote their service to be supreme, and reliable. But when they lost passenger's baggage, or make damage to your baggage, they refuse to pay for it, why? It is not our fault that cause those lost and damages. The airlines should pay for it right. They would charge us baggage claim fees in terms of pound, or size. But they won't voucher for their negligence service? That just not make any sense. I heard so many complaint about it, and I think the government should do something to protect the customer's right. What do you think of it?

I think in the US, they are required to pay something. Of course if you have something expensive in your bag, you could be out of luck by not getting true value.

There seems to be some indiscrepancy to what I had heard of. My boyfriend's boss actually got a new luggage after his one was damage during transit. For lost case, I am not sure what terms and conditions apply but I believe they should also be under some coverage in order provide their passengers some assurance. If they don't cover the lost and damages at all, everyone will start to bring only hand carry luggage for travelling. (At least for me, I won't want to risk my luggage being lost or damage in transit, thus, play safe, hand carry it)

Dear friend, That is really a mess, that too if anything valuable is inside that bag, any important documents. Hope this matter is really an important one, it may happen to other customers and turn to an usuall one, even one could steal it. I hope the authorities should sort matters like this at the earliest in the best justifiable way.

Every airline makes a lot of promises of how they will take good care of your baggage when you travel. When your baggage becomes lost by the airlines, it seems to be a different story. It brings so much much frustration to your life and to your travel when you have to chase baggage the airlines was in charge of. Getting the airlines to completely satisfy you can be a trial in itself.

I think they should put concerns on those matters since it's part of their job description to ensure the costumers care. The only best move to do is submit a suggestion to the authorities so they might also think of those possible sides to be taken care of.I think that's it!

When it is clear that the baggage was in the airline's area of responsibility when it was lost or damaged, the airline should pay for it. I don't know what the government can really do about this, especially since there are more pressing issues than baggage of people who can afford flights. I have a friend who experienced a refusal of compensation. His baggage just disappeared and the airline did not want to give him anything. (There was an incident with a very rude airline officer.) While the bag and its contents were not really essential to him, he sued the airline because of their refusal and the incident. He walked away with money worth more than his baggage a hundred times over.

AFAIK,the airlines themselves do not handle your Bags to put them aboard the aircraft, that's the Job of the Airport Baggage handlers. The Airlines transport you and your bags where You're going, but only if there's been no foulup and your bags actually make it aboard with you before takeoff...I've heard too of flights that have taken off without some bags aboard so as to keep their schedule and not miss their assigned takeoff time slot..Has this situation ever happened to You,that your bags were lost, and compensation was refused,or is this a theoretical example? I've never had a bag lost in many years of airline travel, and on the couple of occasions when there was a foulup and my bag didn't make it onto the plane with Me,they've kindly delivered it to my home without charge within about 24-48 hours after I got home..I take out travel insurance each trip so that I should be compensated for the loss of a bag if the occasion arises, but thankfully I've never had this happen,so I don't know if there are sometimes problems for those people this Does happen to..I Have seen references to this Huge Lost Luggage facility in the US that will auction or sell off unclaimed luggage and their contents when all attempts have been made to try and find the owner..so it's a good idea to label your Luggage and personalise it before entrusting it to the Airport Staff..

Oh? Is this true? I thought they pay for everything that will get lost because it's in their care once you deposit it for luggage? That's unfair then! If they cannot take care or compensate you for your loss then they should build bigger luggage cabins for carry-on! I think there should be some type of insurance there so that they could pay for whatever gets lost. I don't think it should be let go just like that. Are you sure of your information though?

some airlines, when they lost your baggage, you get a little compensation, just something to cover your basic needs. there was a story going around here in the philippines that some time ago, a prominent reporter's luggage was damage. i think it was slashed or something. anyway, it was a rare louis vuitton. the reporter demanded that they replace it, not just pay for it. she did get a luggage, although not a same one, it being so rare. also, my friend's baggage was damaged by the same airline and she got payment for it.

Sure if they intentionally break your stuff then they would have to pay for your loss. But if it is the luggage broken due to accident, who should bare the responsibility? Also, if airlines have to compensate for that, money is required which we can't expect airlines to print money, are we? Those money comes from nowhere but our pockets when we purchase the air ticket. This means we have to pay for it in advance so the airlines can compensate if it so happens. But if we are willing to pay for it, why not we pick our own favorite insurance company to do the job instead?

If they charge for luggage carrying, they should compensate if it goes missing or gets broken! There have been a few cases recently, one where a very expensive autographed guitar that a musician needed to play a gig got broken, one where a kid's expensive wheelchair got broken, and the airline said they would not pay, until the people twittered their anger, and it got retweeted by everyone and got on the news, and the airlines were embarrassed and had to pay so they wouldn't lose business.
