Choosing a movie to go see in the cinema can be a bit hit and miss...trailers are edited to show the good stuff, and can even feature scenes or dialogue that didn't make it into the final cut..knowing the source material (If the movie was based on a book, say) doesn't help either,as the filmmaker could take a different slant on the story to the one the Author created ..though it's good if they can get the author on board for the scriptwriting project..The director would be one aspect I'd look at beforehand..the cast, the buzz about the movie's release, imdb reviews and responses, critic's websites..whatever it takes to get a feel for the movie!

Basing your choices on the Director works well if you're sticking with someone having an established track record of movies you've enjoyed..It's when taking a chance on someone New or checking out a different Genre to your usual preference that you've not a lot to go on from past history..then you want all the help you can get for your decision..

Sometimes good directors can make bad movies, though, can't they? Movies are super expensive, though, I agree. I like to wait a while - maybe even until they're OUT of the theater so I can just rent it - so it won't be as expensive to see if I like it. I'm pretty picky about my movies. I like to check out what IMDB (imdb.com) has to say about it, and what reviewers and friends have said about it. I usually go on their word. But I don't go out to movies very often. What were some of the bad ones you've seen? (just curious).

I don't usually have great expectations of movies that are spinoffs of a successful computer game..or big screen adaptations from tv series' or cartoons I'd have grown up with..though some of them work out ok..

hey alex I find that by watching a really well done movie trailer on TV i can get an idea of what the movie will be about if I need any further information such as well known actors/actresses in other movies or a movie synopsis and ratings I visit http://www.imdb.com the internet movie database

hi friends, this is a good question. before watching a movie i discuss with my friends and relatives whom see the movie. i just collected their opinions and i get a final solution and then i decided that which movie is best. then only i prepare to watch the movie.

I usually look for movie reviews first on the net before watching a movie. That way, I'll be warned beforehand.

I tend to want to go to certain kinds of movies, fantasy or science fiction (but not horror like Alien) but I will go to things like Sherlock Holmes just because its Holmes (I quite like Holmes, and have read a lot of books with him.)

you don't have to see if the director is well known.. sometimes, indie films are good than movies with a good directer and have a big budget... the story or plot may affect on how the movie will impact the audience... look at resident evil after life.. it has a good director, have budget.. good actors and actresses but then it didn't impressed me.. maybe find a movie if it has a good story plot and if it will suit on your genre... so that you will not much disappointed it it wasn't great... have fun...

I don't check who directed movies before watching it on wide screen. But i check the teaser first and check some reviews online if the movie is really worth watching for on cinemas. We all know that movies cost really high these days. I still believe that if we wait a little longer after it is seen in the cinemas, we can rent it and watch it for a cheaper price.

Hi alex, This has happened with me quite a many times and so I decided to look into the background of the movie. I was successful on many occasions, but then one day I realized that my doing this was becoming more cumbersome. I mean that I ended up in wasting more time in finding the details of the movie like the director, the cast and other things. I felt that I was being unfair to the movie makers. So here is what I do now - I try to find a synopsis of the movie at imdb and then if I like the plot, I watch the movie. This is boring at times as it kills the newness but still better than wasting time on finding out detailed reviews about the movie.

I always check out what are the movies that are soon to be launched, if the title catches my attention, I always go check Wikipedia for the plot or IMBD, Im even checking out who are the actors, and the genre of course. You wouldnt want to watch a drama if you're a comedy lover person, would you?

I don't actually know any movie directors so I can't choose a movie based only on the director. I think the only directory that I know was Steven Spielberg and no one else. I heard their names but I'm not really remembering them. But sometimes other movies are featuring something like, "From the director of --- movie". It's only that way that I could get an idea about the movie but still I'm not looking at the director's name. If I were to select a movie, I would rather check IMDB.com for it's plot and rating first. If the rating is good, I will then read some of the reviews from other viewers to get some ideas. I often check the negative comments first so I would know the bad parts, then read the positive comments and evaluate if the good parts of the movie are enough to cover the bad parts of the movie. If it is, then I think I will be satisfied with that movie. -)

We will check the director, hero, music director all these details. Also, we will check the film publicity and how people, media will give responses for the movie.
