Dogs That Are Not Allowed To Eat Human Food...

My sister brought her dog at the 'vet clinic'. She has been told that human food is not allowed for the dog. My sister told me that the reason is human food gives cancer to a dog while the 'dog food' has complete vitamins and minerals that helps the dog to be healthy and strong, but why my aunt's dog died in cancer even if her dog eats 'dog food'? I thought that 'dog food' has complete vitamins and minerals so, even if the dogs eat it, they won't die in cancer. Why dogs don't allow to eat human food?

Some human food is dangerous, so if you don't know, then you shouldn't feed it to the dog. For example, Never give a dog chocolate, it can kill it or make it very sick. But carrots on the other hand is not bad for dogs. But like with every one, never over feed, because that will put weight on the dog that can cause health problems. So occasionally my puppies do get human food as treats, but not as their main source of food and not just any kind.

Ah. Oh yes. My sister also told me that chocolate is not allowed for the dog to eat it even if I didn't know what kind of ingredients that chocolates have, that makes the dog kill or make it very sick.

Dogs and cats are livelier and healthier when meat, poultry, lamb and fish are the foundation of their diets. In other words, we should choose to feed them as the meat eaters they are and denounce the senseless practice of feeding them as if they were herbivores simply because that would be cheaper to do.

Dogs can get cancer for any reason. Human food is not the cause. Although with all the crazy additives it does not help. It is not very good for a dog to eat human food because It does not provide the proper nutrition and Human food will make a dog fat over time. People can take all kinds of vitamins and minerals and still get cancer.. there is no way to prevent it. Not when No one fully knows what causes it.

Nobody knows what causes cancer. If your sister's vet knows the cause, he might earn a Nobel prize. You can't be sure about any food nowdays. The meat and poultry you can find on the market are full of hormones, the vegetables are full of chemicals, nothing is safe to eat theese days. Human food is also full of preservatives, so, what should our dogs be fed with? A lot of human food is not good for dogs, as it may contain salt or other spices (wich are a big no-no for a dog's diet). Dog's digestive isn't designed for eating cooked food. There are different opinions about what is best for a dog to eat. Some people think that a raw food diet is best for dogs, others sustain the commercial dog food. Here's a page that evaluates the benefits of both raw food and commercial dog food: http://www.rawlearning.com/rawfaq.html

Oh. Wow. Thank you, 'inu1711' for the link. I'll read it. There is a lot of information that I have to learn about the food before we give something to eat for the dog.

I don't know why dogs are not allowed to eat human food. When my dogs were just puppies i want them to eat dog food, so i buy dog foods for them. But as the days goes on, the puppies tend to eat human food and they seems to like it. What I did was to mix dog food to human food and my dogs ate it. After the dog foods I bought was consumed, I did not buy another. Since then my dogs eat human food and until now, my 9-year old dog eats the same and nothing happened to them.

I totally disagree with the vet, from everything I have researched most doig food is really not great for dogs as it is filled with chemicals and preservatives and meat bi products and lots of suspect stuff. The biggest ingredient in dog kibble is usually coirn which dogs cannot digest, gives them the farts and is not good for them. We make our own dog food and have three dogs that are extremely healthy. There are certain people food that dogs should not have like grapes, onions, mushroomns, chocolate, corn, large amounts of garlic but the majority of good people food is fine for dogs and can actually be quite good for them. Cancer is sadly one of the biggest cause of deaths in dogs in North America, just like with people, and the reasons are much the same,. Its from the crap they eat, lack of exercise and in some cases just plain bad luck.

Well maybe that is true. If man gets cancer because of the food he eats then how much more if the same food is given to the dog. But it depends on the food you give. I've been keeping dogs for many years but they never get cancer because what I eat are not cancer causing food. Do you believe that my dog eat vegetables. Yes they do because I am fond of vegetables and what I eat they eat also. This is the reason why my dogs live long.

I believe your vet is a little misenformed, or ask a different Vet. Dogs eat chicken, beef, fish and other meats. Turkey and pork to a lesser degree they are harder to digest with pork being the fattest of meats. Dogs eat all kinds of vegatables. When started at a younger age puppies eat all kinds of vegies, mine do, more than the average dog. U can suppliment vitamins if u want, some breeds need it more than others.. REMEMBER ALWAYS LUV/ CARE/ TRAIN YOUR DOG/ PET, THEY WILL ALWAYS LUV U..

Yes, certain human food can be very bad for animals. Dogs can get kidney stones from eating processed human food. So be on the look out for any change in their regular urinary activities as this could be a sign to take them to the vet.

One of the reason that I can think of is that human food will contain MSG, salts etc etc. It might not be healthy for the dog and their fur. Beside, human food does not contain the nutrient that a dog require.

Really? that's a new information. According to my experience and observation it is a case to case basis. Much like some humans beeing cancer stricken and some are not. I do not believe that the said scenario that you have mention happens all the time. My friend's dog is doing ok even if he is eating the food commonly consumed by human's although they give him a clean food and not those left overs.
