My land line phone

India

My landline phone is about 50 years old; from the days we were provided this service in our area. I have two cell phone connections too. Many of the persons here have got their land line phones disconnected after the coming of cell phones. But I have retained mine over these years. I access internet using this, the telephone bills are accepted as ‘proof of residence and identity’ for various purposes; even by papal, but none accept the cell phone bills for this purpose. Do you have a telephone in addition to cell phones? How many cell phones you have? Why you keep that? I see many persons talking using two cells phones at the same time, even in streets walking or driving, this is not good, it distracts your attention and concentration of mind, may cause accidents. Please share your opinion. ‘HAPPY VIJAYA DASMI and DASHARA to all mylot members and friends!!! Professor

Hi Professor. We have a land line and a cell phone. I have the land line so we can connect to the internet only. That number is only given out to family in case of an emergency only. Our cell is the number we give out to our friends and people we work for. While driving my husband don't talk on the phone. If a call comes in I answer and say we are on the road and can't talk unless it is an emergency. In that case my husband will pull off the road and talk to whom ever it is.

I have both a landline and a cellphone and I only give my cellphone number to my friends. I do not want to get telemarketing calls (except from my cellphone provider, of course) and most of my business is done through the landline. I will use the cellphone to talk to my sons since they are on my MyFive. I do not like the idea of using two cellphones when walking or even in a car if you are driving. When my friends drive someplace, and they get a call, they ask me to talk for them.

In my provider, Rogers, and also in other providers down in the States, you have five friends that you can talk to for free on your cellphone all the time. So I have my sons, my neighbor friend who is a nurse, and two other friends. So it is the ones I talk to the most at the time when normally I would have to pay. On my plan, evenings and weekends are free, and I am allow so much time during the week and after that I have to pay except for the five on myFive. It maybe be called a different name over in India and because your cellphone rates are cheaper there, you may not even have it. But over here in Canada we have the highest cell phone rates so we need something like MyFive.

I use my landline more than a cell. I only have a pay as you go cell phone. I do not really have anyone I need to be connected to that much that I would have more than one cell phone. I like having the options, though of taking my very inexpensive cell phone with me, when I am away from my house.

hi professor yes I do not have a cell phone and I have a lifeline special deal with AT and T here in Us California so my landline phone only costs me at most 7 or8 dollars a month so that really helps me as I have a very limited budget. I would like to get a cell phone fpr emergency sakes as my son feels at my age of 84 I should have one but it has to be inexpensive for me.I think many break the law here yet by using hand held cellphones while driving and the fine if caught is really high too. but people still ignor the law. good luck and God bless.

Hi there! I know a lot of people too who had their landlines disconnected because they already have their cellphones. They do not find any more use for their landlines anymore. But as for me and my family, we still have our telephone until now - twenty one years to date. We use it for internet connection, to call relatives abroad and to contact other residences with telephones as well. Even if we already have cellphones (we have four cellphones here at home), we still find our telephone useful because it is still helpful and can offer something that cellphones cannot.

My husband and I moved into our house about a year and a half ago and in the time that we've lived here we have never had a landline in the house. You see, we each have a cell phone and we've used my cell phone that is on a regular plan as our home phone since we've lived here. We are able to use any of our other utility bills as proof of our residence so that hasn't been an issue either. Besides that, the lines into our house aren't there anymore so it would cost us a ton to have a landline ran into the house.

I have a land line at my house, but everyone in my family has cell phones along with land lines. Land lines are mostly for emergencies. Cell phones are for everything else.

As you said, the landline bill is used for identify purpose. Landline is still useful for: - ADSL connection to internet. - house alarm systems. Each adult members have their own cell phone for mobility and convenience.
