Have you ever heard of the argument against the theory of evolution that since no one has seen a species evolve into another species how can evolution be accurate? Well apparently researchers have found that the two strains of mosquitoes that are responsible for the most cases of malarial are doing just that evolving into different species. The two strains might still look like the same mosquito but genetically are too great of a difference for them to be the same species of mosquito. To make matters worse for researchers that are trying to come up with insecticide to combat these killer they are evolving faster than researchers thought. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2010/10/101020151324.htm

Well, dogs evolved from wolves that humans domesticated. Dogs can no longer breed with wolves, so they are now two seperate species. There are many varieties of plants, that humans use for food, that we have modified over the years (by breeding them with other strains) to suit our needs better, and now some of our "food" strains can no longer reproduce with the "wild" original strains. With all the work scientists have done with genomes, they can tell when two particular species split. Evolution is not in doubt, it is observed all the time. We have, in fact, seen several species turn into other species.

A very good point Rebecca! ~ Its very easy to see the results of evolution by going to the Zoo. Stand by the monkey cage for a few minutes and note the antics. Let your mind rove, and suddenly you see neighbors, friends, and even enemies! Yes, These Animals have been evolving from their human counterparts since the very beginning. Now we call them monkeys, but a way back then, they were neighbors, acquaintances and friends. God Save the Monkeys, as we have in fact, seen species turn into other species!

Hi gewcew! Honestly I'm more concerned with the diseases they spread than how these mosquitoes would eventually look like. But if we have to stop the spread of these diseases we need to learn their carriers as much. Thanks for the discussion. And Thanks for the link too.

LOL, that argument is ridiculous. I've never actually been able to see the earth rotate or actually orbit the sun. Does that mean it's not actually happening? To SEE evolution happening you'd have to be able to survive several hundred generations.

It is pretty ridiculous especially after seeing something like what is happening with these mosquitoes.

This is very interesting. Does this mean Glenn Beck may one day see the "half man, half monkey" he seems to need to see as proof of evolution or that Christine O'Donnell will one day SEE with her own eyes one species evolving into another? Annie

Glenn Beck's argument is faulty and shows that he lacks the understanding of the evolution of human. The reason that Beck will never see a half man half monkey is because humans are monkeys or more accurate primates. This would be like wanting to see a half canine half dog.

People not wanting to believe in evolution because it goes against their truth is something I feel should, at the very least, be understood for what it is and not insulted - especially when you consider that, when it boils down to it, only one "religion" is open game for the backlash. A person's overall intelligence and productivity and societal standing and nature in general is not contingent on do-nothing, mean-nothing varities (for lack of a better word here). The argument that "evolution" is wrong due to the fact other species aren't noticably evolving doesn't take stability or time into consideration. But remember: most individuals not giving credence to evolution also believe the Earth to be as old as their particular doctrine claims it to be. So millions and billions don't take hold in their mind; it's mainly hundreds or thousands. Yet another instance of "time" being relative, but I digress... This is of little importance to the evolution-V-denier argument, I think, but certainly worth discussing in terms of the mosquitoes. For evolution in general, I've never understood the big deal if someone says "I don't believe in it." Ahh, maybe to some that seems like a big deal. But to me I honestly don't care. I'm much more concerned with people believing things like government must create jobs, provide education, housing, and that we must go deep into debt to get out of debt. I'm much more concerned with controlling ideology, whether it's born of religion, greed, a failed understand of wealth, etc. People believe crazier things and always have arguments to counter their thousandth failed argument. Have you ever watched the UFO guys go at it? Yowsa!

I actually didn't attend for this discussion to turn into a full blown discussion about evolution, but sometimes a discussion takes a mind of it's own.

Actually, there have been loads and loads of proof of evolution... one of my favorites was done with bacteria, because they were able to make evolution happen in the lab, and have repeatable results. They took 12 containers of bacteria, and each day, they would stop feeding the bacteria at the end of the day, letting about 90% of them die off, then they would start fresh the next day. Everyday, the bacteria would battle for food, so by the end of the experiment, each of the 12 were much bigger, the ones who were able to fight their way to food... but the wildest part happened in the middle... all of a sudden, one of the groups expanded dramaticly... because they had their digestive system evolve, so that they could eat another chemical that was in the water. None of the other groups could, but this one expanded so greatly from it's evolution, that it made an obvious show for macro-evolution.
