Going for an appointment that you think is going to be half an hour,

that turns out that it was over two and a half hours.I went to get the usual check up done and i said to my friend that we will only be up the hospital for half an hour, two and a half hours later.I had to have yet another chest xray done, well that took all of 5 mins as they were expecting me,then there was the hour wait in the path lab to get my blood tests done, that was without the time in the clinic seeing the specialist. We had a catch up on the chatting while we were out and that was great, but i can think of better places to be,even my husband was getting worried as i was soo long up there.

it is ridiculous that they don't estimate the time of appointments better as it would save so much hanging around,i mean i know they have a lot of people to see but if they just said right your appointment will be 30 mins, but we'll say 40 mins just incase it takes slightly longer, that way if they are early for the next patient then great, but if not then the next one won't have as long to wait, like at the doctors the apps are for 10 mins each, and you just know that the doc won't be running on time,so why not have 15 min apps, that way everyone will be seen on time for a change

I went straight in to see the specialist, even though i was in there a very long time that was expected, the chest xray i had just sat down for and then they called my name and that is really good for the xray department as you know.It was the one hour wait just to have the blood tests that they wanted that got my back up.When me and my friend went in the path lab we asked how long it would be and they said it would be 30 mins,so we went and had a smoke, like you do.Yet we still had to sit there another 30 mins until my number was called.

I have had a lot of experiences like yours. I have learned if I have to go to the doctors, I tell my friend that is taking me that it could be all day. I try and make sure neither of us have anything else to do that day because you never know. Sometimes I have to go to town (I live in the suburbs) and even if you aren't at the doctors a long time, sometimes you get caught in traffic and it ends up being all day anyway. I usually try and take her to lunch if there is time, to make up for her wasting a whole day with me.

I did not get thye time to take my friend out for lunch,as we both had to get home for our children and as it was i had a child already off school,as they had sent him home as they could not manage his adhd all that well at all.I think that the next time i go i will ensure that noone else needs me or worries, that will be this week yet again.

I have had that happen before. It is good you had someone to chat with and it is too bad hubby had to worry, but he cares. A nice little coffee shop would have been better for the chat, though. I hope you get all your testing finished up soon.

I am soo pleased that i have a great friend to chat to,also another great friend to look after my son aswell.I was getting really fed up,as just like me i am sure that my friend would have prefered to be some where else rather than being stuck at the hospital.

this is where having a cell phone is so handy. That way you can keep others who are waiting for you from worry over the long time. I am one of those that worries when people are late so I am happy for our cells.

I was not able to use my phone in the hospital,so that was why i could not phone home or a friend. As it was my friend went outside to use hers to phone someone to get a message saying we were at the hospital still waiting for blood test that we were still waiting for to be done.

I think when you have an appointment at the Hospital or any other medical practice then you should make time for it and not make plans around it. What I do if I have any appointment or anything like it is phone someone who I had planned to meet after my appointment and then arrange to meet.

It was not the appointment that took the time,it was the blood tests that i had to have done.I did expect to be up the hospital a while as they have to do lots of checks on the medication etc,it was waiting to have my blood taken that took an hour waiting to have this done.

There is just no telling how lone these days we will be a doctors appointment as thing do happen and doctors get delays. Because you mentioned testing I think that was adequate time, although yes I can think of other places to be at as well. Had it just been the doctors appointment itself, I would have said it was too long. At any rate hope all is withing normal results.

The drs appointment was faster than getting my blood test done.In all the years that i have been up that hospital i have never had to sit there a solid hour to get my blood test done.I could have understood if i had to have waited for an xray of my chest as there are loads of people that do have xrays and they also take time todo.

Keeping medical appointments to less an hour is really a luxury especially in hospitals and public clinics. Probably that's why many prefer to go to a private clinic, a bit more expensive but a lot of time saved. Perhaps there is a reason behind asking people to wait for hours.

Hi. jugsjugs. That is how the appointments are. You are first told that you will have to wait a while and then you end up being at the appointment a longer time than usual. It is really nerve wracking, I know. In cases like this we should be allowed to complain about how long that the doctor's office has us waiting, since they always complain about how long we take to get to the doctor's office on time. Fair is fair.

I think that is so annoying that we always have to wait and use our time waiting when the processes are rather way shorter. They need to make a better system.

I'm racking my brain over here about where I'd rather be for 2 and a half hours(when given the choice of being in a hostital, or anywhere else in the world). Only thing I was able to come up with was at the state fair, in a bumper car. Sounds like it would be a pretty neat experience by comparison. I'd make it a point to tick off anybody I saw on the way to the bumper cars, because I find it's a lot more fun when you have a bunch of strangers who maybe hold a grudge on hand. No personal attacks against my fellow man or woman. Just playful jabs that are only ment to insight laughter amongst anyone within leering distance. now that I think about it, I'm sure my back would be broken after 15 minutes. After the full 2 and a half hours though, It would be crime scene. CSI hasn't had a state fair themed episode yet, have they?

I honestly think that in situations like that when you spend that much time at the doctor's office you should be compensated in some way for your time. I know that there isn't really the case that they are able to refund you money for the time that you spent there, but I do think that it should be the case that they give you an express pass for your next visit to their office. I think if something like that was done that doctor's would be much more prompt about their timing.

Yes, i have experience that many times, be it on me waiting for the doctors, or me waiting for friends who's at the doctor. It's frustrating to wait that long when i'm only expected to wait less than half the actual required time. I don't blame them because we are not the ones to determine how long to wait. It will be good to have some company whilst visiting the doctor, so that we can chat to pass time.

Thanks to the doctor shortage here in Ontario, and the government's horrible mismanagement of our health care system, every doctor's appointment with a general physician takes that long. You show up on time for your appointment, and 2 hours later you get to see a doctor. The only way to beat that is too schedule your appointment for as early in the morning as possible, before the doctors get too behind...and even then you likely wait an hour.

I hate to make an appointment to only be setting there and waiting. I know many doctors office's that will cancel you out if you are late and yet, they can be an hour or more late seeing us from the appointment time. It doesn't seem fair to me and it doesn't seem like they should be allowed to make us wait any longer than they expect to have to wait on us.

YEah, when it comes paying a visit to doctors and clinics, one can never be sure about the timing. 30mins is never possible when we are in public hospital or clinics.. haha =D I have learnt my lessons over numerous times and i know it. hehe ^_^ Just the waiting time for each thing needed to be done on us, is gonna take about at least 1 hour! haha

That doesn't surprise me at all. Here in the states, I hear that people have to wait hours before actually seeing the doctor. I think they make too many appointments.

I have quit guessing times in case of drs, xrays, labs, specialists. What was last time probably won't be this time.

Nothing can be more discouraging than to find out an appointment is going to be much longer than anticipated. We have so many things to do in our day. An appointment like that can really throw a wrench into plans we have made.
