The new variety of potatoes I tried proved really popular...

... with the slugs! I tried a new variety of potatoes this year, they are called Cara, but they've really been hit by the slugs. Someone recommended them to me and I should have know better because he is from the "spray it 'til it glows" school of gardening and I'm organic. Next year I'll stick to Desiree which grow really well on our soil and the slugs don't seem to like. What new crops did you try this year? Did they work out well or were you disappointed?

For the first time, I tried Kentucky Blue Lake green beans and now I'm a believer! There has never been such a big crop of green beans on this place. Today it's cold, windy and they're predicting a freeze tonight. We've already had a few light frosts... and those beans are still blooming. I am pleased, to say the least.

I don't have a garden, but my sister does. She didn't grow anything this year because the soil needed a rest.
