Why are people never satisfied?

I always wondered why people are never satisfied with what they have, they always want more, something better, something different. I think that if I would reach a certain level of accomplishment and wealth I would satisfy with what I have. I don't know why others always chase something else and are never satisfied with what they have. So what kind of person are you? Do you always chase for something else, something better than you have?

It is human to have goals. The problem is some have only self serving goals only.

Be careful. You may never know the passion in the heat of experience! Have a great life!

It is good to have goals, but everybody should know what goals can he achieve, what it takes to reach them and what satisfaction does the reaching of the goals give. Because I see it a waste of precious time to live only for having a nice future, but the most beautiful years from our lives are going past by. Of course, we should ignore the fact that we have to be abe to live good even when we are older, but I think that the quality of life can be sensed better in the young ages.

well, i am into getting what i want now since i never had it in my life or was not able to do it. that is to provide a good life for my family. as to material things, well, new things are intriguing, it gets me curious. there are times that i wanted to have it, at times i feel it is just crap. i think it depends. but if let's say, i am rich and wants to be richer, nope, i'll just maintain it, just have a simple life with my family. that's my greatest desire.

I think that many people want to be wealthier, I certainly want it, but at the same time I am content with what I have and if something better comes on the way, I'll take it, but I will never put all my energy on reaching something. I don't think that it is worth it.

You are so right; I have been thinking a lot about this lately. I was thinking that although I think of myself as a easily satisfied person there are areas where I still like something new and something better. However I am not driven for anything. Maybe that is what makes the difference. We can want but it doesn't consum us, it doesn't drive us because there are other things more important; like love, like family, like enjoying living. Maybe that is the balance of it all. I would not sacrifice my time for something like money or a better car or house in place of having time for a whole lot of leisure with family and fun time with each other.

I couldn't tell this better, I totally agree with you. It is useless to put all our energy in chasing a dream, in reaching our goals, and we are neglecting what we already have. Maybe we will reach in a nearer or further future what we have proposed to do, but we don't realize the life we have and we may loose that. I think reaching goals and normal evolution is good, but not a forced change, an energy consuming one. I always said it is important to have a certain wealth, but only if that is reached in time, and if the health is okay. I wouldn't want to have reach a good wealth after a certain age, because I couldn't take the full advantage of it. Maybe my descendants would benefit from it, but I want to enjoy life, every minute of it, not only to reach something to have what to leave behind me. Maybe I am a bit selfish, but this is who I am.

People are not satisfied when they believe they are missing out on something. There is always something bigger and brighter beyond their reach. Until some people have achieved everything they want, they will have dissatisfaction in their lives.

You are very right, many people always chase better things and when they achieve it, they will realize that it wasn't worth it and regret the time they consumed doing that. So it is better to live our life, and enjoy every second we get.

I am satisfied with myself, with what I have accomplished till this point of my life. Although I would want to live better, to be more wealthy, I don't consume too much energy in reaching it. Because I don't know that I will have success, I don't know how long I am going to live and I don't know what physical condition I will have in the future. So I don't want to waste to much on building my far future, I want to feel good in the present.

People are very complex beings and are living a life is subject to changes whether inside and out. A life if filled with changes, circumstances and choices. Soemtimes people felt the need to satisfy the questions inside their to make sense of theor existence. As for myself, I am a agitated person who would love to chase soemthing but being held back by my own fears.

So you say that people are unsatisfied because they love the challenges and that gives adrenaline to them? But then when they will enjoy what they accomplish, if they are always looking for something else?

If people had been satisfied with a horse and buggy, the car would never have been invented. Coal-oil lamps were very good in 1850, so why bother with electricity. Your baby boy can crawl all around the house, why would he want to learn to walk? (that could be dangerous!) If people had been satisfied with things as they were, the world would have stopped thousands of years ago!

And if many things wouldn't be invented, then we would be fine with what we had. You are right, we have to have goals, but I don't think that they should be achieved with giving up the present, and reaching of these certain goals cannot be the main thing in our life. Do you think it is good to give up the pleasure of life, the meeting with friends, the good parties and the interior calm and satisfaction just to chase something that is unsure? I wouldn't do this, I like leaving in the present, I still do my studies, and I am pretty good at them, but not the career nor the studies are the number one priority in my life. I don't put all my energy in it, because it may be useless, as we don't know what the tomorrow brings, how long are we going to live and so on.

I dont know if it is satisfaction never being reached but if you dont have goals in life you would go stale! I must admit that I dont chase after something bigger or better but would like to feel that I have done the best I can do in whatever it is I do. This is different from never being happy with your lot.

You are right, but many people work from morning till the late night just to have a better life in the future. But what is the point of wasting so many years on dreams which maybe will never be achieved and even if they are reached, they will come to late. I would say, enjoy the life, especially they youth, because time is ticking, and nobody can stop it. Live in the present, not in the future.

People i feel by nature desire for new things after their existing wants are fulfilled. While studying economics at high school there was a phrase in a text book which stuck in my mind.It goes like this man has limited means but unlimited wants. It is i feel humanly impossible to satisfy these wants.I feel ultimately we have to be satisfied with what we have to have inner peace.

I am also studying economics and I know this phrase. And there is also the thing that the needs are increasing more faster than the resources or means as you called them. I don't know why is this happening. Many fellow students are only talking about their future and they forget to live in the present. I feel that these is a shame, because when they will realize that time is not coming back anymore, then they would be very sorry for concentrating so much on future.

Let me ask you something: do you think that investing 5 years for instance for a goal that gives us 10 minutes of satisfaction if reached is worth it? My parents always ask me why I am doing only what is necessary, in every part of my life, because they consider that I am capable of more. I always say the same thing: because I don't like to force myself, to put so much energy in things which don't give me lots of satisfaction and either way I don't think too much about future, as I don't know how long I will live, and if I will, what health I am going to have. Of course, I don't neglect my future totally, I have some ideas, but everything at its time.

Well, for me it's okay to dream and to wish for something unattainable. But I only chase for something that I think I can have and I'll give up if it's too hard for me to get or achieve.

I think that it is natural to have dreams, to think about a better life, but we should always live in present and enjoy our life minute by minute. I wouldn't want to waste valuable time from my life on things which have little probability to happen and even if they will happen, they will not give me the satisfaction I hoped.

It is true, but every person has a natural evolution, and reaching of goals will come with this evolution. Live in the present, keep future in front of you, but only for orientation, don't put to much energy in it, because it may be useless, as we don't know what is going to happen, how long are we going to live and if our health will be good.

I have to admit that when I finally get something that I want, I still yearn for something more better. People are greedy by nature and I am one of them. But I am trying to control my greediness by trying to be satisfied with what I have. Sometimes it's just too difficult for me not to want something more. But I'm trying my best.

I think every person in this world wants to improve a little something in a certain area of the life, it is natural, but many people put all their energy to have a better life in the future. I don't think that this is a positive attitude, we have to cherish the present, because time is ticking, life is short, it cannot be reversed and all we have for certain is here and now. what is going to happen five minutes from now, we cannot be 100% sure, so it is useless to be nervous about it. I think the best attitude is to be satisfied with what we have, but if something comes along the road, to pick it up.

well I am happy person. I could say that I have accomplished something for my self. I have a good job, a good husband and a handsome son.. I may not have much when it comes to financial but I still have my salary my job provides me one. Contentment is just a state of the mind. Think of those that you have and try to think that you are contented and work hard to achieve you goal then you will have no reason not to be contented at all.

Congratulations on your family, I am sure that you consider it the greatest achievement in your life. It is good to know that there are people who feel satisfied with themselves and who enjoy what they have and not chase dreams, neglecting the present.

Not being satisfied has a negative connotation but it's not necessarily a bad thing. I guess it depends on what it is you don't get satisfied about. If it's something that makes you strive to be better and not just be satisfied with something or being mediocre then it could actually be a good thing.

I was thinking more about people who are always chasing something they don't have and they never appreciate what they have. I think this attitude leads nowhere, because this type of people would never enjoy what they have, because they would always strive to have more things, to have a better social position and so on. Of course, I would like to live better, but I don't see myself chasing wealth, and to forget living my life. Because life is short, the time cannot be turned back and I think that the youth is the best period of life to enjoy whatever we get. Because if we always think about future, we will never cherish the present and at the end of our life we will look back and regret many things. I want to say when the time comes to end this life that I've been there, I've done that.

I am also a type of person who is satisfied with what he has, but I would like to reach another level. It sounds controversial a bit, but I know for sure that if I would reach a certain point of wealth and health would be also there, I would stop chasing money. I don't want luxury, but I would like to not be worried about the house, the car, the clothes and the food and all it is necessary to have a decent life. I don't want glamor, I want to live well.

maybe because it is the thrill or the adrenaline rush or the challenge when a person is in the process of achieving something better and different and new. This may be good or bad on the person but it depends on what the person wants. To me, as long as I don't hurt another person, I can pursue goal after goal after goal. Challenges keep a person alive. if you notice retirees (no offense to retirees this is only an observation) tend to deteriorate mentally and physically when they are not engage in any activity.

The world is changing all the time so our goal change with it. Before 20 years computers weren't so widespread, but now nearly everyone has one. There are so much examples like this.

Most of times I want more than what I have. Unless I strive for more, I dont know my limits. There is a thin line between satisfaction and greed. You need to know where you stand. It also depends on what you want more. If you want a bigger house and you already have a huge apartment thats hardly unoccupied, thats unwarranted. Greed is when your intention behind wanting it is unhealthy. But say if your family needs it or that thing might help you live a better life, its not greed. One must learn to have a proper balance in life.
